The tires are goodyear eagle front runners 4.5 X 29, while prepping for 2019 I found a small puncture in one of my tires and had it patched. the tires are rated for 300 mph. how much does that patch take away from the tires speed rating. the car is just capable of speeds of 150 to 200 and the record in the class it falls under is somewhere around 250.

I'm no expert but I'd bet Goodyear would tell you that tire is junk (given liability fears, etc). SCTA would likely have the same view.
Practically speaking the size and location of the damage would likely impact how you might evaluate the level of impairment. I would not run it .

What would Burt Munro do?

That thought crossed my mind. I'm with you in spirit. Guess you just can't get quality shoe polish these days.

I planned to stay out of this.... but....
What's the worse that can happen? If you can live with the answer then run it....
But my liner crash may have been the left front going flat.... Flashpoint was a tire going down... Hey, it didn't kill either of us....
So what't the worse that can happen :|

I was thinking more of how when he cut the tread off his tires with his neighbor's butcher knife he cut into the cord on the front tire. Instead of throwing it away he indexed it to the valve stem so he knew where the cut was when he rolled up to inspection he could push it far enough so as the cut was hidden by the front fender. It's in the book, not the movie.

I've thought about it overnight and decided to replace it, make a good wall hanging in the shop, the inner liners on these tires are so thin that any buffing before the patch goes on exposes the cord. not worth risking a 20 K build for a $600 tire. much less injury to me, I'm old and don't bounce back that well. Thanks for your input.

Hopefully you are not paying more than $223 for front runners, landspeeds are going for about $700 these days

More shoe polish?

A little follow upon the tire for anybody in the same boat as me later, had a conversation with the guy at Shely and asked him about the puncture. his comment was that because the tire was punctured and the way the tire is laid up the cord was more than likely severed, and that his experience with patches was they didn't stick that good to the type of inner lining used in them and that it was not worth the risk, in other words shoe polish won't work. :-D The price has gone up considerable, I believe I paid around $580 when I bought them , they are now $690 but that's racing.

What's the speed rating on regular front runners we ran 288 mph with a 279 exit speed in 1984 with
regular front runners with no problems. And a bunch of times over 270-280.
When the 300 mph rated came out and rule change, we bought them and several pairs since do to sidewall checking and being cautious.
