Title: Motor oil
Post by: jdincau on April 06, 2019, 03:50:11 PM
I can't find anything in the archives about this subject. I can't believe we haven't beat this horse before.

What oil are you running in your 4 stroke, water cooled, normally aspirated, automobile engine on gasoline?

I'll ask for a clarification.  What do you want - our grocery-getters or our race vehicles?

On my old motor I find Valvoline VR-1 20/50 works best but the mileage I get between oil changes really sucks for some reason.

BG Shearpower 15-40 full synthetic... it is usually a diesel oil, but it is great for the Hayabusa....

I used Chevron Delo (10-50?) in my small block in the 1960s. I ran at AHRA, NHRA and SCTA events, from 1/4 to 1.5 miles. I turned as much as 9,000 rpm at the drags and never had a problem. BTW I also ran Delo on the street  8-)
