Title: Required Helmet to padded roll cage distance effecting the top of Helmet.
Post by: Bruno on January 03, 2019, 02:30:16 PM
It’s probably in the rule book somewhere but I will be damned if I can find it.  I know more is better but I am chopping a car, and I think I maybe to conservative at 2” to the SFI pad.  Pull -5 G,s in a plane and I can tell you belts stretch at least 1 “ and that’s not accelerated loading.

No that’s the distance required between helmet and front hoop, also referenced in the paragraph above. As shown in the figure, I am referring to the bars above the plane of the helmet. There are some references to this under safety which discuss not letting the helmet come in contact with the padding due to eye buzz, that’s a little close for me. Maybe there is not a rule regarding this?

True, there is no rule requirement for distance to top...  within 2 inches on the side and at least 3 in the front
You do not want your helmet in contact with roll bar padding... it will uncage your eyeballs.
