It is the 4th day of racing at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials. All is going well and lots of records are being made and being broken. Conditions are ideal! Hard, smooth salt, very little wind so far, clear skies (with a little smoke), and cool temps. Excellent conditions for racing!

Is there any place where you can see the runs & new records ?

I don't think BMST has any official postings of speeds during the event. They usually will publish the results shortly after the event ends. I think the fastest so far is a blown "Harley" owned by Hiro Koiso that made it through the lights at 259 mph, but there was no return run as the bike was chunking its front tire (that was the word on the salt, not verified).
Lots of bikes in the low 200 mph range as usual. There was one low speed record at 20.xx mph. He had to go the entire 3 miles and it seemed like it took an hour...

I was two bikes behind that guy on Monday afternoon. They talked him into starting 1/4 mile from the measured mile after his first run. Pretty sure I could have beaten him on my triathlon bike. I was watching at scrutineering on Sunday when Hiro was told the beautiful hand built tail on his bike was 1/4" too long :-o Next time I saw it it had been skillfully shortened in the field.
Lotsa records, even this rookie got one. The salt was like a freeway surface, just perfect. The staff were just astoundingly kind, attentive and helpful. Huge respect for Delvene for putting together such a well organized, incredibly fun event.

Best salt I have ever seen in the 12 years I have been coming to the event. The staff was so well organized this year and by day 2 you were hot lapping in the afternoon! Lotsof records set and a lot of smiling faces!! Thanks to all the staff and volunteers at this years BMST. You all did an amazing job!!

I was only able to stay Saturday & Sunday, Two Best Days of My Life.
Salt was Great

+++++on the great people and very organized volunteers.............I was fortunate on my Classic Honda 750 to take 3 of 4 possible records with very close competition from the Triumph Trident tuned by Tom Mellor for his friends to ride.........even the radio guys got into it when they noticed how close these to 1969 bike models are for overall performance.

Speaking of riders taking their time, it seemed to me that way too many riders were not turning off the course when they should have. I saw dozens of riders who rode ALL the way to mile 5 or mile 0, speeding up, slowing down like they thought they HAD to ride to the end of the courses in order to get off. I was not at the initial riders meeting but usually they emphasize that is the wrong thing to do. Turn off when it is safe and you are slowed down. To do otherwises wastes everyone's time and it all adds up.

It was certainly discussed at the rookie meeting and was also mentioned at the first rider's meeting. Even crazier than Sunday driving to the end of the track - when I was out waiting at the 4 on the Monday right before the afternoon wind hold we watched the last rider to run from the 1 mile stop at the 4 flag, turn around, and motor back up the track. One starter tore off after him waving a red flag while the other got on the radio. He finally turned off and rode away from them to the return road. A few minutes later we heard the request for his bike number to come to impound over the radio. The starters simply said, "Well, we've never seen that one before."

In 2013 I was on a return pass for a FIM record, after passing thru the timed mile, deacelerated and when safe left the track (at about the three-two mile) and proceeded to mile 0 on the support vehicle track,, the officials at the 0 ballsed me out for doing it, WTF, I thought that I was doing the right thing by clearing the course so that the next competitor could go :roll:,,
BTW I got the record :cheers:

Sounds like the 1970 or so record battle between Eastland Honda and Triumph Detroit

RP.......we were together on the course and ran 139s on the return runs............the next day he changed timing and sprockets and went slower, I did nothing but ran 4-mph faster mostly due to the effective altitude drop of over 1000-ft...........but I did change into a tighter-fitting set of leathers :-D

I was just thinking..... the Trident would be in a Pushrod class?..but I am not really up on the Classic rules. Also noticed a record in Classic 1350.....when did 1000 stop being the top class?

That is 100% false! There was a service road down the middle for you to exit off the track and ride down to the end on. This kind of bad info is why we have these problems.

I ran from the 1.5 on the International and exited at about the 5.25 to the green line that led to the end of the Mountain Course where flagmen always helped. Return runs were not well marked and I often crossed to the green line on rough salt.
RP........No pushrod category in Classic..........apparently added the 1350 class last year. More Classic competition every year.......and I think a lot more to come.
