I thought that by now we usually had entry forms and the schedule.... Maybe I am wrong and do not see anything on the SCTA website so wanted to see if anyone had any more info when we could expect that to come out?
I know the dates are October 1st or 2nd - 5th....
If this has been discussed just please direct me there....
-
Up on SCTA website now.....

Above should be a direct link to the entry form.

Thanks, Tom - I've been looking for this.
-
We got our junk put back together and (weather willing) we expect to be there!
-
World Finals are next week, don't they (SCTA) normally publish an entry list by now?
Chris
-
Weather is looking dry, coo l xnd fast!!!!

Chris
Actually, the pre-entries needed to be postmarked by September 21. I'm thinking they may not have actually received or processed them all yet, and given the short window between pre-entry and the event, if the list comes out, it might not be until the event starts.
-
Weather is looking dry, coo l xnd fast!!!!
Actually, the Wendover forecast from Weather Underground for Tue-Wed-Thur isn't looking all that great at the moment. Maybe we'll get lucky and the bad stuff will skirt around to the south.

-
Entry List?
Chris
-
Chris, you look local to the SCTA... thought about volunteering to help them get ready for the meet? maybe pouring through the entries and building a list...
Take a deep breath.... JoAnn might be a little busy
-
are we going to have a World Finals 2018 exclusive thread or should everything just be posted here?
-
Since it has been 5 years since the last one, everyone should be abe to find it here.... Do we want it renamed to World Finals 2018?
-
Has it really been 5 years since Finals happened last? WOW!!
-
2012 I believe.... been wrong before.... :-o
-
Stainless said: "... been wrong before.... "
No doubt you're referring to the time you thought you were mistaken?
-
I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this as I have attended many events but...I see the news of a 10 mile course for the World Finals. Is the extra course length simply added at the end for shutdown or are there any additional measured miles added? Thanks, WOZ
-
No, there'll be just the usual five miles - this is not an FIA/FIM meet where the long course is required. I'll guess that the mention of 10 miles is to reassure those that feared the course turned crappy sooner.
-
I wonder if they're using the same starting line that USFRA used for World of Speed. It was in the general vicinity of the International Course pit area - down towards the freeway. It required a 120-degree right turn from Land's End to get there. If so, that would give them some extra room, and could explain how they got out to Mile 10.

The salt is dry and hard.
We haven't had the pleasure of being at Bonneville for a few years, most recently Speed Week '14 which was a lake.
Personally, I've often compared the salt to running in slush. The current course conditions inspire confidence.
We're so happy to be here!
Scott
-
Thank Mother Nature for the hard 1/8" racing surface
-
Sounds like they have already had at least one 400+ run!!!
-
George Poteet driving the speed demon just ran a 431 mph pass on a 422 mph record!
Keith called one aborted his run. Turbinator Is down at the starting line
-
Hopefully we will all read about a 500 mph run. I know 480 plus was something to see a few weeks ago! WOZ
-
That was Keith Copeland!
-
Eddies chop shop streamliner just ran a 403 mph pass!
-
That was Keith Copeland!
I hate Auto-Correct! It's my worst enema!

-
I am sitting at the 4 1/2 mile marker and I can hear the cars to start their engine from the starting line. You can hear them the entire run! I love it when atmospheric conditions are this way!
-
Envy, envy, envy.....
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ
-
If you get any numbers on the #6556 Adler Landspeed D/DS (aka "Double Eagle"), please post. It definitely won't be in the 400's, but anything over 200 is pretty good for something that's VW-powered!
Thanks,
Jeff in Boise
-
On that diesel streamliner I believe it ran earlier this morning and didn’t very very very well... somewhere in the 220s very well!
-
Turbinator 493 mph mile 503 exit!!!!
-
Thanks for all the reports! Keep up the good work!
Jeff in Boise
-
Wow! That's a qualifying run, isn't it?
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ
-
500! they did it!
-
Wow! That's a qualifying run, isn't it?
They set a new T-III record of 455 at Speedweek, and bumped it up to 482 at World of Speed.
So, yes! Take it to impound!
-
I’m really not a reporter. Rik I won’t try pronouncing his last name driving that the Stella body type streamliner just ran a 390 something with a for something exit. There are a lot of record-setting runs this morning!
-
The lines are fairly long however the temperature is fairly cool.
-
The 911 roadster is in line.
-
I won’t try pronouncing his last name driving that the Stella body type streamliner
You don't have to pronounce it - just type it for us!
But seriously, what's a "Stella body type".
Jeff in Boise
-
Maybe Rob Freyvogel in the Carbiliner?
Jeff in Boise
-
The 911 roadster just left the starting line. Imagine what a freight train on nitro might sound like and that will give you an idea of what everyone heard. He pulled the shoot out about the 2 mile may have lost the motor unfortunately.
-
I have not seen the Carbonite streamliner.
-

Possibly Rick Yacoucci at 398 in the five with a 409 exit
-
Courses on hold while they clean the track. Currently 72° here on the salt.
-
Turbinator 493 mph mile 503 exit!!!!
Such an amazing feat! History has been made!
-
When I get a chance I am going to impound and talk with Dan Warner. There are a host of vehicles there!
-
Wooohoo!!!
-
Any sign of Treit an Davenport?
-
Yes I believe that I saw them....still in the pits!
-
Jim Knapp Is here with his streamliner as well. It’s about 230 in the afternoon and the clouds are building just a little and the wind has kicked up just a little.
-
The Mariani streamliner is in line.
-
A little windy but still making a lot of runs.
-
Keith Copeland 388 mph out the back door......IT LOOKED AWESOME!!!!!
-
With a great run tomorrow, Dave will need a new color hat....How about it Dan...Gold
-
Is there a live feed on the internet for the World Finals?
-
I’m getting ready to head home. Sorry my reporting was kind of hit and miss. There’s a pretty significant line of storms to the west moving this direction. Fingers crossed that somehow it disappears! The track is currently in now For a small incident on the course.
-
This may be hard to believe but there is a line to get into impound!
-
Ugly ugly weather to the south west headed this direction.
-
Sorry everybody, leaving the salt headed home to work. I hope somebody picks this up so I can follow along with the rest of you!
-
Don't apologize, you did good for us poor unfortunates that have to work or are too far away.
Sid.
-
Thanks for what you did RC. Have a safe trip home.
-
Yes thank you very much for the updates today.
-
One of my buddies there said they got 50MPH winds and driving rain, so they left the salt. Keep your fingers crossed that the meet can continue!

Praying for a good course in the AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a day!! WHAT A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! damm I sure would like to have been there!!

Here is the official report: http://w1.weather.gov/obhistory/KENV.html
.01"....As if a hummingbird dumped his bladder!
-
Hey thanks Texican. Man,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i wish i could have made it. Mark.
-
Good morning from the salt. Unfortunately it is a lake out here and the event has been called. :-(
-
Oh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bummer...............That must have been one of those 747 Hummingbirds. :-D :-D :-D
-
Yeah - recruit those hummingbirds for wildfire tanker duty.
Bummer that the Turbinator II won't have a chance to back up the record (and maybe push the number over 500...) 'til next time. Now starts the bench racing.
-
Good morning from the salt. Unfortunately it is a lake out here and the event has been called. :-(
The information on the SCTA homepage says no racing today and they will reevaluate at 10 AM today.
Which information is correct? It seems odd to cancel so early when salt conditions can change.
John
-
I just exchanged a few notes with Ron Christensen, who is out there. Puddles on the course so probably no racing today, but yes there will be further evaluation at 10 - a coupla hours from now.
-
I see an SCTA Facebook post telling us that there will be no racing today and the 10 AM assessment will evidently be on the continuation of the event tomorrow.
My guess using what information I have. Hope it's close to correct.
-
sad Sad SAD what a bummer-- Rick Y in impound just under 4 and Term in just under 5
-
WF Update #8:
No racing today - Officials will be resetting signs from 10am - Noon. About noon we will be letting crews on to the salt to check their vehicles. Enola Gay will be serving lunch. Please stay off the course, the water is receding.
Pat McDowell - SCTA President
Bill Lattin - BNI Chairman
-
so there is still hope for tomorrow!!
-
Maybe....More wet stuff in the forecast. :-(
-
Eddies Chop Shop, he's the MAN. Relative new guy, built the car himself with LS on gas and is already a 400 mph player. He might have a future in LSR. :-)
-
I am a realistic optimist. I used to skydive, we had a saying that I’ll modify. If you are on the Salt flats, you might race, if you aren’t, you won’t.
Our pit is dry. Yes, there is a bit of a lake driving in but 2/3 the way to the pits, it’s dry. I’ll see if I can post a picture from my phone.
It’ll dry. Been here before....
-
Hopefully panorama attached
-
So . . .
If you're in impound - a lot of folks are - and it's dry tomorrow morning, will they be able to make backup runs on Monday's numbers, or will they need to start over?

I was wondering the same thing.
-
Has anybody got a report yet on how it looks for tomorrow?
-
Just got a text from Tom Donney. It reads as follows:
"The only racing that will take place is backup runs. If the salt dries out enough, they will open it up for qualifying runs."
-
He also mentioned it's supposed to be windy tomorrow, and things might get pushed back to Friday.
I told him to stay away from the slot machines . . .
-
Why would they allow back-up runs but not regular runs? is the course drier at the other end??
-
Backups to finish what was started. If it's too windy to race tomorrow, then you're talking Friday, and after noon, they'll be wanting to fold the tent.
-
gotcha.
-
gotcha.
Results are posted

Thanks for the nice words. Just faking it till we make it!
-
No picture of Eddie's car at SCTA site but I think Target 550 is in line to run. What happened? Sad that Marlo might miss the great salt.
-
The inbound cars & bikes might get a chance to run, just before everybody else. Nobody is in line to run because they haven't figured out where the starting line will be yet, probably a mile or two back. The start line was still surrounded by water when we left. As a joke we talked about towing thru the pudles to the line to be first to run after the water dries, could be this week,,,,,,,,,,,or July.
-
Eddie if you are faking it you must have been and undersized 1/2 back in high school
-
Bummer. Latest picture from the salt looks like Lake Bonneville. We will see what the official word is about the event.
-
Double bummer. Was really hoping Turbinator could get in a return run. And would be great to see Target 550 get dialed in.
-
Just went to the SCTA site - they're folding the tents.

This is on the SCTI-BNI.org web page Thursday morninh (today):
After only one day of great racing - impound full of vehicles - two rain storms (one on Tues and one on Wed night) has flooded the salt beyond recovery. Workers are packing up equipment and leaving the salt today.
-
And they took down the results, too.
Jeff in Boise
-
Dang. So many promising runs only waiting for the back up.
Again one year of waiting...
-
Ron Christensen has been sending pics - here are two you might find interesting. Think of these as a list of those left standing at the altar.

Thanks for posting that Slim. Great job by Eddies Chop Shop. He has an excellent future ahead of him.
-
I feel so bad for all the folks that were in impound!
:-(
-
With hindsight always being 20/20, and with a major storm on the door step , did anyone ever consider closing the course early to qualifiers and run off the Impound cars on late Tuesday afternoon ? Was there a lesson learned here ?
-
NHRS likewise---they all deserve a Peg Leg Trophy = qualified didn't back it up for a record!!
-
Billy, NO, NO, NO,--a very bad idea IMO---very, very, unfair to all of the rest of the racers, including those that weren't even at the meet---Mother Nature is a huge part of what makes B'Ville -B'ville and will continue to be
-
NHRS likewise---they all deserve a Peg Leg Trophy = qualified didn't back it up for a record!!
Lots of us have those

I'm torn on this one.
I understand Sparky's POV, but to Billy's point, I also understand that at WOS, they DID do backups in the afternoon, and those records set will be accepted as BNI records.
One of the downsides is that you might not be able to get all of your prep done in time if you ran late in the morning.
With a turn-out of only about 90 entries, provided everybody had a chance to make an attempt, and if it was clear that the opportunity to back up your run was in jeopardy, my thought would be that fairness would fall to those who paid their entry, made the trip, made qualifying runs, and are sitting in what must be as close to LSR purgatory as one could imagine.

It's not just USFRA that has done this. SCTA has allowed same day running for records. When I qualified in 2001 at WF the next day looked bad for weather. The SCTA officials came to all of us in impound and asked if we would like to run at the end of that day or wait until the next morning. All in impound agreed for same day and they took us all down to the 7 mile and had us run back that evening. the only bad part is I ran first thing in the morning with the sun rising in my eyes and back in the evening with the sun setting in my eyes. Ah the good old days.

another point being overlooked about the USFRA doing return runs later the same day.... No one (or at least not many) were in line to qualify.
-
My oft-told tale of return runs earlier than next morning:
I was riding the 250 Turbo bike at WoS and qualified - on a cloudy/crappy looking morning. When I got back to the pits Jim Burkdoll greeted me with "Get back in line - we're going to run out the qualifiers before the weather breaks." We did, I did back it up, and yes, sometimes circumstances require refining the planning a bit.
-
As I recall, at this year's WoS, (due to the better part of one day being lost to high winds), qualifiers the next day were given the choice of making their return runs either right after lunch, late that afternoon, or first thing the next morning. It seemed to work out pretty well.

Anyway you look at it, incredible opportunity lost. Who knows if or when the salt conditions will support these kind of speeds again. The dreary, gloomy weather in Washington always puts me in a funk. Now it is compounded by the anticlimactic WF
Thankfully I'm a member of this unofficial group therapy sight headed up by master therapist SSS :-D
-
We all got to witness 500 mph this year and Danny Thompson fulfill his fathers dream so 2018 was a REALLY good year!
-
The world finals are always iffy. I have made the trip when I was the timer to turn around and go home or be told it was canceled due to weather. We all want good weather but this time of year is not the best.We will go again next year if the weather gods allow it.
-
NHRS likewise---they all deserve a Peg Leg Trophy = qualified didn't back it up for a record!!
Lots of us have those
ah yes but failed back ups vs not getting a chance to back up...
I asked Dan for half a black hat... he told me no.

Well I wouldn't call 1 day in 6 years iffy.... I call WF racing rare...
And yes at WoS weather and wind was predicted so they ran records at 1 if you were ready, then 5 if you were ready or the next morning.... folks in impound chose the option that worked for them...

Since this picture is posted everywhere else, I thought I would try to post it here.
