Houghton and Hancock are twin cities about a hundred miles northwest of Nancy and me - and they got massively dumped on with rain last night. Like - 6 3/4" in a few hours. WoW! We got an inch or so. . . We're okay but the mosquitoes are getting pretty aggressive.
Anyway, Hoton and Hancock are hard rock copper mining towns on the sides and at the base of a cut in the Pre-Cambrian rock, now called the Portage Canal. 6 inches of rain in a few hours is totally unprecedented - so the towns were majorly slammed. Take a look at the pics you can find online.
WoW.

And we moan when we get a shower here in the UK!! Seriously though you are in our thoughts.

It rained here last night with the biggest rain drops I have ever seen & that includes Australia. They were the size of a quarter & they sounded like 1/2" nuts hitting the roof. We have big thunder storms building here right now so expect more of the same up there Slim.

It's raining like a bugger here right now - and has been for a few hours. I guess the swamp will be full in the morning.

I spent a summer at K.I. Sawyer w/ my sister and BIL......fond memories of the mosquitoes trying to capture me as a war bride.

Funny you mention that, Jer -- I spent a few hours outdoors yesterday in the 85-90F muggy long grass and weeds -- without getting any mosquito bites. No bug dope on me, either. And I didn't pick up any ticks - that's unusual.
Maybe the skeeters drank of thy bodily fluids and became less interested in human stuff.

The remnants of Hurricane Houghton drifted south to Beerhaven today. We still have roads, and the Taco Bell is still standing, but the power's down, and the SmartPhone will be in need of charging in the next few hours.

Can't you charge it in the car? :? Be safe, my friend.
