For those of you that can access Facebook here is a warning about fissures in the lakebed to avoid that was posted on the Friends of El Mirage page.

Looks like there are some big fissures in the return road/north side spectator area.

I also read on the Friends of El Mirage FB page that a fire permit is now required.

Comparing the map with the Google satellite view leads me to believe the cracks are on the return road side at the outer boundary cones opposite the timing stand.

Just got this E mail rom my son
"Hey Pop,
I stopped by Elmo on my way back to Phoenix this afternoon. The ruts are about even with the timing tower, hay bailed off on the East side of the lake bed. Indeed, East of the return road and are of no danger to racers. Drove down the course and it appears no better or worse than recent meets. Just an FYI in case anyone wants to know."

I checked out the lake bed over the weekend and I think it looks much, much better than it did last year. The trenches won't affect us in any way unless some yahoo on a dirt bike manages to drive into them.

Track was the best its been in years.

I concur plus all the crazy fast speeds also attest to the excellent course conditions. Thank you Mom Nature!

This thread is a few months old but I have to give props to the Friends of El Mirage on this. All the fissures/trenches etc are completely filled in and unless you search them out you wont be able to find them. This had to have been an absolutely mammoth job and these volunteers really did an excellent job.

I concur. Thanks to everyone that had a hand in fixing that mess. It's practically indistinguishable now.
