Title: Need 15 testers for new board
Post by: landracing on November 06, 2006, 06:38:37 PM
Need 15 testers to help test new message board system.

All you need to do is browse thru, post to the board, suggest features that are currently not there, and mess around with the current features.

Hopefully some will reply, hopefully a mac user or two will also join in.

Basically test functionality of board. Then each step of process will add new feature and test it until we have a board system ready to go live.

I have transfered this full board over to new system.

Please post here or PM me that you are interested.

Jon

Looks okay from here jon...  My 6 year old PC isn't even close to a MAC, but I don't seem to be having any problems which is surprising considering my computer talents.

Post by: Seldom Seen Slim on November 07, 2006, 08:47:54 AM
Hey, Jon, I guess I should speak up and see if I can be of help.

I'm running a 3-year-old iMac and upgrading to OS-X tomorrow (8 November).  I use Firefox as a browser, with Safari as a backup (both still in the machine but only use the FF most of the time).

What do I need to do?

Cant believe I need to ask again. But still need about 7  more takers on testing out new board.

Need to test it out, post, check features, add input, maybe list some features you would like to see...

I have one mac user, anybody else running a mac one more would be nice.

PM me.

Jon,

something crashed - when I checked the new forum and opened a issue the page shows only the first 3 notes, not the other.
The lastest "theme" showed my first note and your answer - but the note with the "showing" problem didn't show up.
Due to this that I don't know if you can read my note, I used this way to get you the information.

Jon,I miss the right side display of new posts, it was easier to see what was new than the new board. Might just be me---

No not just you, had quite the time myself until I realized I had been missing posts when I hadn't been checking regular and the board had been active.  New way kind of forces me to take a good look at all the boards for activity, something I seldom did under the old system while just looking for a quick speed fix.  Now that I've gotten by the adjustment hurdle I wonder how much I would use or rely on the right side display even if it were to be reinstated.  Think Jon said a new home page is in the works anyway.........

I really like that you can click on "Show unread posts since last visit." and get them all in one place. If you haven't visited for a while you can cherry pick the ones you want to read and leave the rest. By going to the end of each subject and working back you get to where you last read or you can refresh your memory on a subject which is sometimes necessary with us older folk.

Title: Person's Location...
Post by: Sumner on December 17, 2006, 10:23:20 AM
I miss the person's location, where they live.  It was on the old board, wasn't it, or am I losing it .

I keep looking over there to see the state or country.

Ok I put together the code to show members location now. If one is NOT shown then the user does not have the location entered in their profile.

It show show above post count.

Thanks Jon. I think the new layout is doing great. :-D

Another thing you might look at when you have time is the "comments" area in the picture gallery, it won't let you post comments about a photo but shows a place for it. It worked on the test site but not here.

I could use a spell check too...

Thanks again for all the hard work!

Had figured loseing the locations was just part of the "price of progress" so hadn't mentioned it.  Had really missed them so THANKS for reinstateing them.

Sure is nice in this day and age to have a system available where the sugestion not only gets read but acted upon, in less than 24 hrs yet.

Site just continues to get better, THANK YOU, all the hard work is very much appreciated at this end.

Thanks for the "location" again  :-).  I was kind of leery of mentioning it as I know you have been working hard.

Did you get the streamliner??

My thanks for the "location" and everything else as well!  If possible, my vote for spell check when time permits.
