Title: spring race

Somehow I just don't have a good felling about the change of owners. Middle of January and nothing happening.

I wrote to them about 2 months ago  and also posted on this forum asking for info on being a volunteer and got no reply back.  Guess they don't need any help so I decided to make plans elsewhere.  :?

I too am not very impressed with the way they are running things.  Sounds like they are so worried in making sure that everything is perfect on the admin side that they are forgetting that they are going to need actual cars and bikes to participate and volunteer for the show to happen.

And I guess we still don't see an active link for 2018 ECTA membership??? :? I'd think they'd like to see some $$ coming in. This is becoming a little bit worry some. I have rooms at the Holiday Inn and am beginning to feel like that old tome on being all dressed up with no place to go...

I decided not to make any reservations or plans when they would not answer my e-mails.   Not sure why they refuse to communicate with folks but it sure is not a good way to start IMO.

The ECTA website page is authored by Brian Lohnes. Anybody acquainted with him? I tried posting a comment there addressed to Brian, suggesting he post more often here (but I don't know if the comment actually "took"... I got no acknowledgement). I didn't see any email address for Brian.

As I understand it the Turk's have sold ECTA to the new operators, so it's not likely you'll get a response from that email.

Why don't you call Strupp and ask what's up? As we all know the officials of all of the organizations rarely if ever post here ( DW an exception)

So I just signed up for the spring race at Blytheville, the cost is certainly higher. I hope this translates to good facilities and services at the track. I was always pleased with the treatment we got at Wilmington, enjoyed it a lot. I am hoping there will be overnight parking for cars and trailers on site. Now we hope for great weather.

Hoping for a good turn out.  I'll be there!

At last count, I saw 83 vehicles registered.  2 of those are mine, but .... 2 weeks ago I had a timing chain to surrender while the bike was on the dyno at 11,500 RPM.  Keeping my fingers crossed that I have it back together before the event.

Hey - it kinda looks like I'll be there for the April race.  How 'bout that?  A guy from not too far away (Mike Segorski) is gonna run his doorslammer - and I'll ride down with him.  I have my request in to live stream the audio so youse all can hear it whether or not you're there.  Stay tuned for further details.

NOTE TO ALL BIKE RACERS:
I'll have my leathers with me but will need to borrow a helmet (hint, hint, hint!)

just received this email..............

Hello, Everyone!

Please respond to this email even if it does not apply to you.  A simple "no" response is fine.

The topic is VP fuel and the quantity that you require.

The fuel will be sold in the usual VP 5-gallon can.  Pricing is going to be dictated by the volume.  We will confirm pricing once we hear from everyone.

There will not be a fuel vendor on-site so we need to pre-order.

Best Regards,

Hello everyone!! I'm Mike Segorski (Ultra Mike) and as a realllly newbe to LSR.   I'm coming to you all for advice and help. I'm registered for the Blytheville event with a Modern Street class MS/8B car. (I think)  Yesterday I received my copy of the rules book so I feel that I'm quite a bit behind you all in deciphering what I need to make a pass down track. As near as I can tell I'll have met the car's safety requirements. However..... Here's where I'm struggling.  To me the safety gear requirements show ambiguous driver suit spec's for cars running over 200 mph. On page 20 for a blown, supercharged open belt car the suit needs to be SFI 3.2A/20  but on page 62 for over 210 mph it's an SFI 3.2A/1.  I'm pretty sure I'm making more of this than necessary but I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks for your help, EH!

From looking at the "new" street class rules that are posted on line:

Just with the street class only, the suit just needs to be SFI 3.2A/1 .... personally, if I had a street car that was capable of 200+, I would wear at least a SFI  3.2A/5 or maybe some fire retardant underware with my /1 suit.

There's a 1  :-o  :-o is it more protection than jeans and a t-shirt?  Remember the rules are minimums...

Any driver will tell you especially where your own safety is concerned is always get the best you can afford because when you are upside down, the car is on fire ....what would you rather be wearing? Call Allen at the Simpson Roadshow or Big Ben at DJ Safety....they can advise you.

I'm gonna jump in to "defend" Mike.  I know he's got the -20 suit on order but it won't be done in time for the event, that's all.

Maybe I'll take the liberty of asking for him:  Anyone got a suit he can borrow during the weekend?  I might be wrong, but just in case, yanno...

I'll ask Mike to letcha know what size he is.  Thanks, Ransom.

As for the race event in general, here's where I think landracing.com and I are:  No, we won't stream the audio.  I had offered to do so but because this is the first event - new announcer, he's not schooled on the equipment yet - I don't want to promise that I'll be able to even find the audio output from his announcing board much less have everything smooth and dandy!  I'll have the equipment there with me but Steve Strupp has suggested that I don't promise to give youse guys audio.  Wait and see.

I'll be there with Mike Segorski, a car guy, whose car is done at the dyno but is now getting the cage fitted-up.  Don't know for sure if it'll be done but we'll be there anyway (as of this morning we plan, at least) and I'll be looking for a ride on anybody's bike I can fit.  Nancy won't be with me - somebody's gotta stay home and keep the fire going in the boiler.  Chances are that we'll show up Thursday in time to leave his car at the track.

C U ina week or so.

Firesuit specs: I think it is simple to decide what suit you should wear. Do you have a job the requires you to walk and use your hands? How fast can you stop your car from maximum speed and get clear of the burning car?

Just saw this on their Facebook page:

Setting up a new facility will take a lot of time. Some extra help in tech Thursday would be appropriated. If you are interested let me or Cj know. Help setting up is also greatly appreciated. Going to do our best to have a fast moving event.

The weather might be less than ideal Friday & Saturday.  It is still cool here, we had snow last Saturday, so early mornings will require coats for sure.

Hey - it's cloudy and about 70 in Decatur Indiana - three blocks from Lingenfelter's shop.  We'll fetch Mike's car and head for Blytheville in an hour or so.  The forecast looks super-duper for today -- since we haven't seen a "natural" 70++ degree day in months.

It's a warm and windy Friday morning in Blytheville.  Windy as hell.  Mike is tardy to get us to the track, but you betcha we'll be there soon and maybe even letcha know what's going on.  I expect the first two hours will be walking around and howdy-ing a zillion people, but I'll get on here with some scoop for you.  The forecast is for warm and windy today, maybe some overnight rain that oughta stop by 8 in the morning, and then cooler tomorrow and downright cool on Sunday - but sunny.

It's windier than a bugger -- 20 gusting to 30 or so headwind.  Not much tuning going on - it's pretty quiet in the pits.  Tonya says hi, Rosie (relly -- he's here) says hi, and so on. Geez -- I didn't think that many people knew me.  I'll post more as the time passes.

Oh, yeah -- Nancy had to stay home so Sandi came with me (in case you see her in a pic and you're wondering if Nancy got her hair cut really short and dyed red).

I think that's the first time I've seen someone building a rollcage with a higher degree of concern for the safety of the car than its occupant.

That car is awesome!!!

It's just about done raining and the wind has come up.  Ot's gusty and might not be good for racing but it'll dry the track in a hurry.  In the meantime. . .

And it's an official race.  I just got a scolding from Kieth Turk - and I was driving Mike's support truck.  Sheesh!

On hold here.  Amy Hartmann just lost a window, the crosswinds are too high, and the first sprinkles of rain just showed up on the windshield. I'm with Mike in staging -- about 10 in front of us.  Hope we get to run.

I just heard we'll go back to racing after a long wind hold, but I don't hear any engines yet. . .

We're on a wind hold now at Blytheville.  It's cool - 44F cool, that is.  We've had one or maybe two cars over 200 so far - sure wish the weather was better.  The bikes haven't run reallly fast -again, the wind is the hassle.

I'll stay in touch, hokey-dokey?

Are the run logs posted somewhere?

I'm also interested in the run logs. There were a lot of runs Sunday afternoon when everyone was licensed up and I was busy playing crew with 3 cars. I'm guessing it'll take a couple days for ECTA to get the trailers home, rest, and get the run logs up.

Thanks for the pictures.  My pal Ross and I intended to come down from West Michigan for the meet but the weather looked way too iffy so we passed. June I think.
