Here's a bit of SpeedWeek news for you all to ponder:

Just this morning I received a fine gift from an anonymous donor that musta got tired of me whining about it last SW:  Landracing.com now has a microphone that I can put on a stand out in front of the announce booth and getcha the sounds of the engines as they putt-putt past.

It worked okay last year when I'd step outside and hold a mic, but now we'll have one that's available all the time and right now, instead of after I finish the next gulp of gatorade.

See you/hear us on the salt.

Well I am looking forward to listening come August.
It'll be better than listening to the usual racket around here.

Slim Im hoping to have a realy sweet sounding old Ford engine 1950 vintage for you to hold out that mic.
Being qualified to run the long course Im looking forward to getting her underway. All I gotta do is finish building the darn thing.    :-)

We were ready to load up for Speed Week till we went to the Texas Mile a couple weekends ago. Now I need to do a little fixing on my heads and jugs. Seems the head gasket on the front jug didn't like the pavement as must as it does the salt.

We'll get that fixed and bee ready to go soon.

So......is there any reason to believe we'll have a track this year? Anybody been out to the salt to see what it looks like? Is it mud or is it white? What was the off season like? Temps and rainfall compared to other years (good or bad)? Last year's salt was marginal at best are we expecting the same, better or worse this year? We've got 5 months to go and lots can happen but if it is a mud pit now there won't be any reason to load the trailers....

We had all the hype and momentum from years of not racing then one year of marginal salt and everyone was abuzz with save the salt, protect the surface, stop the mining and then when Speedweek ended it seems to have become a back burner discussion. Unless I missed it while looking at Anders building his turbine bike I haven't seen much conversation on the racing surface lately. Being 2000 miles away really handicaps us on knowing what is happening out there.

This time of year it is still under water. I saw a video from the 1st of the month of Lake Bonneville, but for this time of year I kinda expected that.

Whatever you're thinking -- 2017 Bonneville pre-entries must be in the mail by May 1 (and don't bother to look, that's next Monday).

I added a pre for ya Stan

Mike booked rooms for us. We got ourselves a new trailer for the lakester. The car is almost finished being put back together. Mike is really putting in countless hours on the car. Gabe has put in hard work too. David Wise and Duane Cole have also been lots of help.  Our sunburns are almost healed from last August. I think we are pretty close to being ready. God, I can't wait for another Wendover morning.... The drive away from wendover. The moment you see that bonneville speedway sign. The excitement of stepping out onto the salt. The first time you hear the snarl of a big angry v8 in the wide-open desert. The adrenaline rush when the guys at the starting line give your safety harnesses one last hard tug. Last year was my first year with my foot on the gas pedal. You could say that  I AM READY and the car will be ready also. Speed Gods willing...

This year will be our 17th at Bville.  And each time we get to the salt -- the same things feel just as good for us as they do for you.  And I betcha the folks with many more years -- get the same thrills.

See you on the salt.

Jon,
Just saw this and had to rejoin here and reply!
You have always had an external microphone with the blue box that Chris set up years ago.
I used it at Wilmington and WOS and worked fine. I finally bought my own equipment from Chris so I would not be interfering with you! You just never brought them to Bonneville!!!!!
You gonna bring this one?????

Thanks,
Gregg

Dang, Chris, I just swoon when you talk so techno-artistically.

In answer to your query:  Yah, I shoor tink so.  SCTA/BNI makes it way easier now.  I (well, Ron and I) get visited by the ice and cold drink guy every couple of hours.  Oh - you mean sound gear.  Yeah, that's under control as soon as I find the laptop.  But that's another story.

Scaaty racing is entered. Still working on the car. Chasing 200 this year. I have more concern about my old truck she is getting tired. Hoping for good dry salt. See you there.

I am looking to repower my old truck also--the 6.0 is getting a little tired at 200,000.  thinking of a 8.1 to add a little oomph!!

I have found that renting a late model truck (diesel) is my best option. Should have been doing it for the last few years. No stress over my old F350. Better mileage and  more power. Should have the car almost ready this weekend. The only fireworks I want to see is my engine running.  It's all fun  53 Studebaker C/GCC looking for 200. Actually anything thing faster than last year 181.6. See you on the salt.
