Title: Front Runner Tires – Top Speed Potential
Post by: Skip Pipes on January 29, 2017, 03:38:33 PM
I’m just curious if anyone knows just how fast these front tires have run on Lakesters or Rear Engine Modified Roadsters? Both are in the 22-inch tall range.

We made three pass' on our M&H's before the side walls started to split at the bead. Another lakester driver came to our pit and alerted us that it had just happened to theirs also. Didn't look safe so we have new Goodyear LSR tires to put on Salt Cat ll next time we bring it out. We were running 90# of air so that could have been a factor.

I studied the 2016 rule book on tires and was not able to satisfy myself on status of the non LSR Goodyear Front Runners. I have a pair of Goodyear 25X4.5X15 D2991 front runners. Can these be used as drive tires for speed around 230 mph or is it mandatory to go with the new LSR front runner?

My 2981 Goodyear tires on FWD lakester have gone 278. Same with 22in. M@h. Trick, as has been discussed on here many times, is to remove just about all the tread, especially on the corners. I saw a steamliner that was running well over 300 and he told me that was the "secret". Also my M@Hs have no cracks.

Junior Kurtz ran front runners (Goodyear)  on his A/FS and ran in the 310 area consistently and to my knowledge never had a tire problem. The motor was a Van Dyne 499.9 incher that made around 1100 hp.
