Title: Car 718, blown 2007 Chevy HHR for sale
Post by: Gary Perkinson on September 09, 2016, 11:54:07 PM
Well, folks, it's been a ton of fun, and I've met a lot of great people, but it's time to make room for some other (more stationary) car projects. So I've decided to put the little green HHR up for sale.

The car holds the Wilmington G/BGALT (153 mph), G/BFALT (149 mph), and Loring G/BGALT (148 mph) records, and was actually included in the 2015 Speedweek program--but for obvious and unfortunate reasons, wasn't able to run the salt that year. ZZP in Grand Rapids, Mich., built the engine and did the tuning, and Joe Timney at Delaware Chassis Works did the cage and most of the other safety stuff. The car is teched to 175 at both Wilmington and Loring, and despite the two crappy passes I made in Wilmington in April, the car is now tuned for C85, made 479 hp/452 ft.lbs. at 29 pounds of boost on the dyno, and should easily run in the 160s.

Here's the lowdown:

2.0 liter GM Ecotec Gen 3 LDK engine (inline 4, mounted transversely)
Front-wheel drive, F40 6-speed manual transmission (from a 2007 Saab 9-3)
BorgWarner AirWerks S200SX-E 52/57mm 300-650 HP Complete Turbo

This car would be great for someone who's interested in trying out land-speed racing but doesn't want to break the bank, or someone who might have Bonneville on their bucket list. The car is ridiculously easy for one person to run--I can get it on and off the trailer, by myself, in five to ten minutes, and with a little practice, I was able to get myself belted in, up to the starting line, and the down the track pretty much by myself.

Here's a video of one of my Loring runs: https://youtu.be/K-_EC9Ho6dA

I've attached some photos (many more are available), and I'm willing to deliver the car within roughly a 750-mile radius of NYC.

$8,000 obo takes everything (except the trailer, although I'm willing to discuss). You can tow the car to Wilmington at the end of the month, turn the key and go 150 mph. It's a safe car that's easy to drive, with a lot of quality parts (and fun) for not a whole lot of money.

I might be interested in trading for a decent later C3 Corvette, but other than that, cash only. And thank you, but I don't need to sell, and I don't need help selling.

PM me here if interested, or e-mail me at gfp61@mindspring.com.

Thanks!

Thanks, Nathan and Pete...I think it's a pretty good deal, too, although I also understand that it's an oddball that probably doesn't appeal to a lot of people. I guess Mr. Market will do the talking!  :-D  In the meantime, however, I just picked up the perfect inexpensive mule--a 5-speed HHR panel van into which the powertrain, fuel system and anything else that can be swapped out of the race car will go. The land-speed HHR will live on as a street cruiser, so anyone who wants the race car should probably act quickly...  :-o

SCREAMING HOT DEAL!

As I read through the ad, I was expecting to see a number on the high side of $20K.

Oh my, now I'm thinking about a home equity loan.....
