Mr. Head Handlebar Holder, I don't recall seeing this topic posted so I'm just wondering if there will be a Salt Talks this year?
Gregg
PS
Listen to your voicemails and give me a call!
-
Garling, there ain't no voicemails from you on my phone -- just from some dude with a North Carolina area ncode asking if I'd accept the reverse charges from the jail he was being held in overnight.
Yanno, now that I think nof it, that message did say something about a guy named Atlas or Amson or something like that. Give me a clue, okay?
On to Salt Talks. Yes, I do think we're gonna do it. And thanks for making me tip my hat. Its been kinda funky here, what with me tagging a deer two weeks ago -- just when I'd got the appointments set for truck and trailer mtce. So we haven't made time to letcha all know.
Maybe tomorrow - between making glasses for the 200 MPH Club Banquet. Each glass takes 3 min 38 seconds to engrave. Times 40 dozen makes for some busy time at Kudos Laser. But I'll getcha the details about Salt Talks. Get ready for me to beg for $$ and gifts and such.
-
Another voicemail left.....Give me a call!
Gregg

Funky I guess, I always envisioned you as a poacher. :-D
-
Hay, Garibaldi, whaddaya mean, voice mails? I wonder how much race fuel you've been snifffing 'cause there ain't no voicemails on my phone. You callin' Nancy's # and talking with her?
I 'spose I'd best call your bluff and get in touch with you via voice. Yeah, by the way, the JetPack did land hear a few days ago.
Stay tuned.
-
Voices mail don't work from Texas either :?
Just saying'
Rouse
-
Okay, Johhnie -- I'll agree that I didn't return a call to you and I'll do it as soon as I can find your number. Hey - wait a minnit, I think I know now -- you called me on the company phone. Hay -- I can ignore bisness calls once in a while.
I'll go find that phone and call you back. In the meantime -- how 'bout you get a translator to stand by for my call so I can get around the Texas Twang in your talk, okay?
-
I may an instructional video once, and was ask to add CC for the understanding impaired. :-D
Rouse
-
Johnnie, I'm sitting here with the phone in my hand. You gonna call me? I think I even sent you an email or something with my CORRECT phone number on it.
-
I donate some shirts and koozies...
-
Nancy's dug up a bunch of stuff for the website - stuff that's been hidden from prying eyes for a while. We'll be packing that. And she found some bumper stickers, and so we aren't totally without swag.
But we didn't make a t-shirt this year 'cause of the uncertainty of the event being held at all, so therefore -- those of you that'd like to help support the site by buying shirts -- you're gonna have to simply bring a few $$ and pass 'em on to Nancy or me.
I'm sorry to sound so beggar-like -- but without the shirts I gotta be blunt. The site could sure use a shot in the financial arm. Thanks. :dhorse:
PS Send a Paypal donation now wouldn't hurt my feelings, for sure.
-
Do you still have left over shirts from the last two years?
A sharpy slash through the prior year date and addition of 2016 would make them useful as a memento to the rain outs and 2 years lost.
-
Crap! Great Idea! But I needed it two weeks ago, dang it. Maybe I can get Nancy to use a couple of big Sharpies to decorate the shirts as we drive west. Yeah, that's what I'll do. Sure, Yeah. . .
-
Make shirts to order only, after Speed Week?
-
Sure. Do you mean, by the way, Salt Talks '16 shirts, after the fact, or do you mean shirts with you or your car or your butt or whatever on 'em? We can do those, too.
Find us out there on the salt.

Salt Talks '16 shirts. Some people, like myself, collect stuff like that for events attended.
-
Jon, I can't remember[I'm old] Did Salt Cat Team contribute to the shirt fund for last year? I think I brought something for the raffle. Damn, It's hell getting old.See you in about a week.
Doug
-
Jon, I think I have a few bucks I want to contribute. I need banking details or I have a pigeon here that thinks he can make it.
-
Wow, Mike, nobody's ever asked that question before. Is there a reason that you can't use Paypal? I think even the Aussies and Kiwis use it, and even though their money is upside down when then send it -- it is still accepted when it arrives in the account. PM me for further discussions at your will.
And - thanks. Salt Talks will be Sunday, 14 August, starting around 5-6 PM or so. We've still got a few details to work out -- like whether we'll be able to borrow the big gas grill from Enola Gay Cafe, and where we're gonna have the event. I don't have a confirmation from Mike Crawford yet (just sent a note to him yesterday) on whether we can party at the Museum parking lot.
Stay tuned.
-
I "HAD" PayPal but mizz She whose name we don't mention entered her personal pin no
and the whole thing went for a walk!!!.
My bank says they can get funds to you.
PM me details.

I passed by the site to check and see if there might be a sewer dump or water fountain.
The weeds were so tall,I could barely find the Hydrant on the corner.

I see on the SCTA FB page the announcement that they'll be offering the live audio stream from SpeedWeek. And -- so will landracing.com, as usual. Hey -- I don't know if maybe Bangshift will have it, too.
Ron Christensen and I will be the two radio announcers this time - and you'll be able to listen to our drivel fine informative and concise reportage throughout the week. Listen up!!!
-
Slim:
To which frequency shall we set our radio dials to hear you and Ron?
Will it be amplitude or frequency-modulated?
Jeff in Boise
-
The correct one.
Yes, it will be frequently modulated amplitudinally.
I dunno yet, in other words. Over the years it's been either 1610 AM or 89.7 or something. I honestly don't know what rig we'll be using, Stay tuned -- if you can find us.
-
SSS / Jon, hope you and Nancy are doing well, see you at Salt Talks, we arrive Noonish Thursday.

Major bummer, girls and boys. Our truck isn't happy - "reduced engine power", it says, so we limped all the way to beautiful Glendive, MT. We'll hole up in this really nice crack whore motel and in in the morning hope that the Chevy dealership in town opens early to work on Duramax rigs belonging to stray folks headed for the salt.
For them what wonders what's wrong, I dunno -- but: Just last week I got it back after the deer hit repairs. And the tranny cooler and hoses and everything were replaced (Bambi was big) and Bob the wrench mentioned all 15 codes the thing was throwing - just for the Allison. So I'm wondering if we're suffering from some ill related to Bambi.
I'd say moe right now but I see some entertaining-looking girls strolling around by the gutter. Gotta go check 'em out.
-
I feel your pain, Jon.
A few weeks ago I was driving my Dodge PU through Kingman, AZ on I-40 and a fuel injector line developed a pinhole leak. It was spraying diesel fuel all over the engine and leaving a big cloud of vapor behind me. Fortunately it happened as I was not far from an exit and I turned off, right into a truck stop. Unfortunately it was Sunday night and there were no mechanics there familiar with a Cummins 5.9L engine so I had it towed a short distance to the local Dodge dealer and holed up in a Route 66 motel until the next morning. The dealer got to work on my truck the first thing in the morning and -- a miracle-- they had a #4 injector fuel line in stock! By noon I was on my way to Nevada. Talk about lucky- I could have had that happen in the middle of nowhere (there's a lot of that out here in the West). Had it been a gas engine there would have been a big fire for sure.
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ
-
Grilled venison - never a pretty sight. Up by youse guyz, they jump out from behind the trees - down here, out of the cornfields.
A thought on those codes - the Dodge was throwing codes that were transmission related, but the problem wound up being the wheel sensors for the ECU. They were suffering from BRC - Bonneville Related Corrosion. I was looking at $700.00 in repairs just to get it to the point where they could run an accurate diagnostic on it, but if the mechanic is stumped, have him/her check the wheel sensors.
It's all related these days . . .
By the way - given Jon's propensity to make up the names of places, I checked, and there REALLY IS A GLENDIVE MONTANA!
-
Chris;
There is also a French Lick in one of the Midwest states. No kidding! :-D :-D :-D
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ

And Neil.....My wife and I passed by French Lick, Indiana this morning on our way out to B'ville.
Yes, I did chuckle to myself!

Do I hold her ears, or do I hold my tongue?
-
Jon, As I said earlier. If you need help I'm not too far away. I can bring parts from Billings or find a spare vehicle. I work really cheap. Keep me posted. You've got my number.
Doug
-
Yup, there's French Lick, Indiana. As I remember my folks went there years ago - a hot springs spa or something. I think one of my sisters was born a little less than a year later. I didn't like her -- Dad should stuck with the French Lick, I say. Anyway -
Here we are in Glendive. If you've read enough Westerns you've seen the name. If we'd made it another 75 miles we'd have got to Miles City, and you only need to read three or four Westerns to hear of that one, Chris.
And yup, I got the email, Doug, and 'til morning all we can do is kinda think about things that we might have to do. But - I don't find your phone number in my sPhone, so maybe you'd be so kind as to send it via some fine method. Or if you've got mine - which hasn't changed in a buncha years - go ahead and text to your heart's content. The ringer is off for the night.
So are we. G'night, all.
-
Slim, I hope the muff...err..glendive don't bite... sleep tight. O.R.B.

The misss adventures of SSS and his Misss
-
Well -- it's about 6.30 and we're ready to go to -- HKT Motors. They don't open 'til 8 -- and WTF kinda customer service is that? Don't they know that we live on Eastern time and have been awake for a couple hours?
Long story coming, I expect. At least I've got Naughty Nancy with me.
-
Sorry, Jon, Just got back on the electronic marvel and saw this. I'll send you my phone number.
Doug
-
Email sent, Doug, and thanks. For them that wonders, it was the EGT (Duramax diesel). So we spent a wonderful 27 hours in Glendive, Montana, while the dealership sent a guy to Miles City (75 miles) to get the part and then drive it back for the wrench to fiddle with. And so it's done and we're driving again.
See you on the salt.
-
You should be going by Columbus shortly. Sorry I couldn't help out. I guess I could stand on the side of the road and hand you a water bottle like they do in the Olympics. See you on Friday. Doug
-
When you get home put a block-off plate in it, the part is about $12.
Sid.
-
One more reminder, if You carry a OBD II Code Reader with You it might tell You the problem ahead of time or at least give You some idea what parts You might need to fix it. Bob
-
No Chris.....Down by me the deer politely saunter out of the tree lines and brush against your truck.....Those deer up in Slim`s hood break down the garage door and kick the sh*t out of your truck "Just because "

Oh deer!!!!!!! :-D

Good news: We're just north of Pocatello and on track to get to Wendover before supper. Bad news: Yesterday while we were waiting for the truck I happened to glance and see a folded up plastic picnic table over there, behind some stuff. And that's when I had my own n"Oh, Sheist!!" moment. Yeah, those four tables that we take to Salt Talks. The ones that are either still at my daughter's house for her rummage sale a month ago -- or they're nestled safely in our barn being sh*t on by the barn birds.
But they're not with us. If you've got room in your trailer wouldja think about bringing a table? But ask first in case we get really lucky and they fall outa the sky on us or something.
Second thing: I haven't heard from Mike Crawford in re: using the Museum parking lot for either/or camping and Salt Talks. I'll letcha know when I hear somethin' Tanks :-)
-
Like the Milwaukee Bucks say . . .

I posted on Mike's FB page, asking him to give you a yell.

just at thought for a fundraiser...
maybe one of those "dunk tanks"...
maybe the "Mayor" could sit in...I really think it could
generate a lot of income
Mike ...?...
seriously ...would be good if Mike could come and we have
a cold one with him

Mike's been joining us at Salt Talks for a good buncha years already, and dies stuff like bring city light/generators with him.
-
If it helps to make it happen, Tell Him I won't be there (but He's not the reason). One Run, out..........................
-
Hey - did I tell you that we forgot the picnic tables at home? Yeah, I think so. so tonight we went to the "early" workers party that the guy that owns the Wendover Times put on for us out at his pilot Peak Ghost Town and Animal Ranch (tell ya later). Anyway, about Salt Talks:
Yes, we can have Salt Talks at the Museum parking lot -- even though it's got weeds on it. They're not tree-size (yet). Or we could have Salt Talks back at the Bend in the Road like we used to do.
Or we could hold the picnic at the Wendover Community Center, in town.
Each place has some good reasons, and we'll figure out something and letcha know. We got lotsa stuff to get set before we serve the first burger.
Oh, yeah -- camping at the Museum parking lot is okay, too.
-
Dibs on garbage duty, again. :-P
-
SSS you didn't call me so I have to assume that you made it across Montana without my help. Apparently they got the parts and got you fixed up. See you Friday.
Doug
-
Doug, we eventually got outa Glendive about 3PM. Got to the southwest corner of Bozeman and crashed for some sleep on the air mattress in the race trailer. Got to Bendover around 4.30 Tuesday. Target arrival time: 2PM. Not all that bad, hey?
Got room in the trailer for a plastic table for Salt Talks? Stay tuned to the discussion here -- we might/might not need a few.
Thanks again, buddy.
-
Slim, I'll be in my 2500 Chevy long bed. Only thing I'm hauling is my old dirt bike. If ya need a couple tables for Slat Talks, I've got plenty of room and a couple 6 or 8 foot tables i can bring along if needed.
-
Slim:
Ill be there tomorrow around noon If I can help, please let me know.
Bill Reilly
-
Bill, looking forward to seeing you and Joe, Looking forward to meeting you.
Gregg
-
Indeed Gregg! I do believe Bill and yourself have both helped with the progress of Ole Hank...
-
Boyoboy, this no racin' for a coupla years is a bugger. I mean -- I walk through the pits or registration or wherever and I can't get 25 feet without having to stop and shoot the breeze with somebody -- and dammit, each and every one of 'em has been smiling, too. This is GREAT!!!!\
Okay - Salt Talks. here's some more stuff, and I'll repeat the big question. That is -- where the heck shall we hold this event? Bend in the Road (tradition); new Museum parking lot (no mud if it rains, free camping there, just like at the Bend); the Wendover Community Center -- clean, real tables and walls and cooler and clean and no issues with me getting a sore throat from shouting ojn that danged bullhorn. Anybody care or will you follow Nancy anywhere?
We've already got some good stuff donated for the raffle/auction, including a weather station from Delaware Chassis Works/Donna and Joe Timney. And Pork Pie has offered up three astoundingly cool prints of the Danny Thompson Challenger II run from a coupla years ago - you remember, that 410 run? I'll never forget just the sound - and you can get a signed photo at Salt Talks. PP's set a minimum price on - and you'll see how cool they'll look on your wall at home.
We'll have some other swag, for sure - but I just got off the salt for the day and am still a bit dazed by the fun we're having. This sh*t is SO COOL!
And a quick note for you that'll be showing up here: SCTA is selling shirts and posters and other stuff from the past few years when they made it - and couldn't sell it without an event. Fire sale prices mean - nothing goes back to SCTA storage. Shirts are 10 bucks and decals and posters and go buy some and help the Club get some of the investment back. Thanks.
-
Jon,
I think you get better attendance at the Bend but it sure was nice not dealing with the dust at the museum site.
Tough choice, I vote for the museum site but I know not of the community center.
See you tomorrow, Don
-
Thanks, Don. Hey - if you talk to the Gus guy would you be so kind as to tell him that I did get his email/FB/PM/WTF. I think it came in when the truck engine was farkled so I didn't remember to resp0ond.
See you soon.
