Title: M class primary chain guard
Post by: ExesoR on June 13, 2016, 03:12:55 PM
Hello,

I am from Austria/EUROPE and preparing an old pre unit rigid Triumph for the partitipation in the speedweeks 2017 / 2018.
Currently I am dealing with the chain guard requirement.
I am not totally sure about that.

The rule book says:

7.B.22 CHAIN GUARD
All chain or belt driven motorcycles entries shall be equipped with steel or aluminum
chain or belt guard. If the guard is made of steel it shall be at least 3/32 in. thick, or if aluminum , at
least 1/8 in. thick. Guards shall be securely mounted in least two places. The top run shall at least 1-1/2
times the overall witdth of the chain or at least 1/4 in. wider than the belt.

further
The chain/belt shall be guarded from the center,....
Primary drives or exposed clutches shall have a side cover to prevent rider from getting entangled.
OEM chain guards may not be adequate.

My question:
Has the guard of the primary drive or exposed clutches also to be made of 3/32 in thick material in the case of aluminim?

Thank you in advanve for your respose.

Best regards
Christian

Christian, Look in the build section( Willies build) there is a lot of information there on cars and bike. Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your build and hope to meet you next year.

Christian, I would build my chain/primary/clutch guard from all the same size material.  It can be welded or multiple pieces bolted together.  1/8 AL or 3/32 steel...  I would do AL or stainless steel for corrosion resistance

Have fun with you build... add pictures if you have a chance
