Title: Wilmington April/May Picture Post
Post by: gkabbt on April 26, 2016, 04:16:15 PM

This is the usual place holder for pics from Wilmington this weekend.

I'll be driving up to Wilmington tomorrow, taking pics Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will post the links in this thread.

Also, anyone who has pics, please feel free to post here!
To ALL racers: Be Safe, Go Fast and Have Fun!

Today's tech day started off REALLY foggy and cool. Started clearing up around noon and by late afternoon full sun with 74 degrees.
I know this is a full meet but I was really expecting more bikes/cars today. I'm guessing that many folks could not/did not get off work to come early.

Anyway, here is my Google Photos link from today:

As usual, I hope you enjoy,

I LOVE this sport because of the incredible ingenuity of some of the builders.
Case in point, my last five pics are of Jack Iliff's (jacksoni on here) 3522 G/GC Nissan 240SX.
Block, crank, etc. is a Pontiac SD 4 cyl and the head is from an Infinity IRL engine.     WOW  :-o  :-o  :-o

If you are seeing "Sign in to get updates          SIGN IN"
Ignore this and just click on the 1st pic and you can start going thru the pics.

No one seems to be having issues

What do you see when you click on the link?

Do both links do the same thing?

If any pictures show click on the upper left picture then you can go through them all. Ignore the sign in thing. It doesn't affect anything.

I just sorted out what's likely happening. I've been using Chrome instead of IE as a browser for the last while. I went back and tried Internet Explorer and got the same result as those reporting no pictures, just the title. I'm still using Vista, but it appears at some point I'm going to have to upgrade.  :-( :-( :-(

My Chrome browser seems to be doing the trick for now.

Day started off VERY overcast, misty, foggy, dreary.....just nasty but no rain!  :-D
Started clearing mid morning and nice day from early afternoon on.
Lots of run by both cars and bikes. I think top speed so far for bikes is in the mid 220's and for cars in the low 230's.
GOOD racing overall.

One highlight for me today, as you will see in my pics, was seeing the BEAUTIFUL "Pretty Woman" Thunderbird Coupe that was Ron Pruett's AA/GALT.....outstanding car and it's for sale!
Just as a teaser, I attached a pics of "Pretty Woman"

I'll stop the blabbering now so here is my Google Photos link:

Having thought about todays racing, two runs REALLY stick out in my mind (caveat....IIRC)
One of the slowest and one of the fastest.

1st was the 50cc sidecar scooter of Darrell White that went 60+.
Build diary on this board will tell you all about this scooter: http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,14329.0.html

2nd was Bob Hustler's Wayne Jessel NASCAR Dodge powered Ford probe at 230+:
Last September went 222 with a single carb and over the Winter went to 2 carbs and picked up 50-60 HP!

Thanks Gregg. Great to meet you. Went 154.7 first run, best ever here. Some trans and shifter issues landed on the second and went from 2nd gear to 5th, skipping over 3 and 4. Still went 142. Things fixed and now waiting out the rain Sat afternoon. Radar looks promising for this system to move out though forecast still suggests showers/t-storms. Of course you know this. :)

Gregg and Woody it was good seeing you guys at the Track.  Sorry I did not have much time to talk, I was short handed with just one crew member so. With all the changes to my Studebaker we did last summer for SpeedWeek 2015, the car needs a bit more attention to get it and me ready.

To all my friends on land racing.com it's been awhile since I have been on here, hope you all are well

As you will see, day started out on the damp side. We had to wait for the track to dry so racing started late.
As the day progressed it turned into a really beautiful day with sun out and temps into the mid 70's.

Many folks had left yesterday as the weather forecast seemed to change from minute to minute.
For the folks that stayed, lines were REALLY short and many made multiple runs.

As for statistics of this meet:

Ransom Holbrook had top speed for bikes at 244.
Ron Keselowski had top speed for cars at 233.

For the Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Challenge:
Jay Bell won Real Street with a top speed at 229 in his Firebird.
C. Douglas Johnson won Super Street with a top speed of 222 in his Mustang.
Both cars are EXTREMELY well done and are the last two pics in my link below.

For the 3 days of racing, a total of 507 runs were made. Brian said it would have been in the 700's if we had not had the problems on Saturday.

All-in-all it was a good meet.

Here is my Google Photos link for today:

Jesse, I see you're looking at this and I wanted to let you know that Carl (IIRC), with his yellow Mustang, did get into the ECTA 200 MPH club with a VERY nice pass of 204.

Hi all; well despite blowing up 1st run, 1st day, we had a great, great time last weekend! We where running our Norton in M/PG1000/4 class. Despite a lot of preparation going up in smoke, we learned a ton and met lots of really great people! For anyone wondering, I thought I'd post some pics of the "Norton carnage" we had. We'll regroup and be back for the June event for sure! Can't wait! https://goo.gl/photos/G8BhPMuFp8c4Eiic8

We've got our Norton mostly back together, planning on a Test and Tune at our local dragstrip (Cayuga Dragway, Toronto Motorsport Park) next Sunday, then we'll be back for the June meet in Wilmington!
