Title: Four wheel brakes on all vehicles over 175 MPH rule
Post by: ronnieroadster on April 03, 2016, 10:24:58 PM
Tjheres now an update in the rule book about brakes. The rule now reads four wheel brakes required over 175 MPH . Guess that eliminates many lakesters, streamliners and roadsters from running at ECTA events.

Hmm.... It also rules out my thoughts of removing the front brakes from my lakester (to be able to run inboard wheel discs). :-(

The track is about 9000 feet long....In theory that means 3700 feet to slow down before you run into the weeds... Did a rear brake only car run off the track requiring a rule change?   are you required to have a chute for over 175?

To my knowledge NO vehicle with four tires and two wheel brakes have ever gone into the weeds at the end of the track.
The only vehicles that I know of and a few I have personally witnessed all had four wheel brakes. Driver error was the cause of two I personally witnessed. They also had chutes! You need to pay attention to where you are at the finish line some drivers seem to have a BIG problem with that part of the run!
I have personally made runs over 175 MPH with brakes on the rear axle only and safely stopped in shut down with the use of a chute. But I know where the finish line is located. :-D

Rule will be enforced in the 2017 season. The ECTA had printer problems this year and didn't get the rule books out in a timely manner. Contact ECTA officials for details confirmation.
