I'm stymied on whether I can or cannot add a front air dam to my G/CPRO car. I've read and reread the pertinent rules and can't decide. Any help will be appreciated. I'd hate to give up the aero advantage if it's permissible, but would hate it even more if I showed up in Utah with a front air dam only to be dissallowed.
So here goes....
The Classic Production rule (5.c ), paragraph 2 states: "Classes within the Classic Production catagory are the equivilent of the Modified and Production Classes with body modifications as allowed in those catagories"
The Modified rule 5.D, paragraph 5 states:" Front air dams and splitters (4.CC.1) are permitted in the Modified catagory"
The Production rule 5.E paragraph 3, sentence 2 states:" Modified body, body panels, spoilers, air dams, ect. intended for and as accepted by NASCAR, NHRA, SCCA, ect are not permitted for use in this catagory unless specificallly allowed."
Hopefully there's a clear answer to what appears (to my simple mind) to be a conflicting set of rules.

It's really simple if you don't over think it and read something into the rules that is not there...if you are building a production class car, use the production class rules NOT the modified rules.

Bill:
I agree that it would be simple if the Classic Production rule didn't specifically state that it allows body modifications allowed in both the Modified and Production Classes.

The last sentence in that same paragraph answers your question...
"Both exterior and interior body panels are considered to be part of a production vehicle and shall be mounted in their original relationship to each other."
No where in the Production rules does it say you can use a different spoiler or air dam.

What it says is:
If you are running a classic category coupe in a modified class you use the modified rules. If you are running a classic category coupe in production class you use the production rules.

Rick please reread the first rule you quoted..in my rule book (2015) it says "Classes within the Classic Category are the equivalent of the Modified and Production categories with body modifications as allowed in those categories". It appears you added the word "Production" in the first line between Classic and Category..if it is this way in the 2016 rule book it would be a misprint.

Great copy edititing! My fat fingers and crummy proof reading are to blame. It also seems that the inttrepretation of A Classic in MOdofied can run an air dam while a Classic Production can cannot. I really appreciate all the informed feedback from everyone.
I do have one more question. I had read the Classic Catagory paragraph 1 rule that reads, "Entries shall be unaltered in height"etc. to mean that the car's factory stock ride height cannot be altered. Recently I was told that the word "height" refers only to modifying the actual body's height. Is that true and if so, may I lower the suspension ride height as much as I wish?

You are correct. They mean you cant chop or section the body.
