Hay, straw, and silage. Here it is -- your very own topic for the big event. Have at it, ladies and gentlemen, and remember -- we'll see you on the salt.
-
Fingers are crossed there will be enough salt to safely race on. :-)
-
Them there city boys might not know what silage is or how it smells. :-D
Sid.

:-D Sid growing up and a dairy farm I sure do jeezee some of it smelled almost like pickles and some just smelled like HE LL
-
Silly boys, that was the smell of $$$! :-D

Woody, Woody, Woody
On a good year it smells like money. On a bad year it smells like $hit.

Some of us "city boys" do know about silage.....we had relatives who owned farms...Probably generated enough methane gas to power the whole farm too...

Can anyone comment on how the salt flats look this year as opposed to the last couple years? I'm sure it is wet, but I am wondering if it is a mudflat, or if we have some salt showing. I just hate to make another donation to the resorts with a huge deposit, if the salt still looks bad.
-
Did you want specifics on long course, short course or international course ?
-
One question to ponder is if there is only enough salt for a short course, will it be economically feasible for the SCTA/BNI to hold any event.
You would most likely not have any entrants with records above say 225 mph willing to pay the entry fee to sit in line for several hours (depending on number of entrants obviously) for what would essentially be a test and tune. The Organization cannot afford to continually lose money.
The next question would be; what condition will the salt/dirt present to the racers?
Personally, I have rooms reserved but am somewhat dubious that anything less than a miracle will give us a course this Year.
We need a Dike built and Year around pumping to turn this around. We all need to do our part with our wallets and our pens (as in Master Cards).

I bet you never smelled grass silage that was chopped green and then packed in the silo.
-
Didn't Trump say he would build a yuge wall and get Mexico to pay for it?
I was curious if anyone who has been out to the salt recently had any reason to be optimistic about a 2016 race.
-
Im With, We need someone close to, Go Look , Please , Be Our Eyes ? Well also maybe take a few photos ?
After watchin that last meeting with Tom Burkland and L.S. Louise, It sure sounds like the salt needs all 2016 summer to cure and be ready? Im not liking that , But if it almost heals the track for years to come, Well I say we wait just one more year, But deep down, None of us are getting any younger ! And I like every one else Deep Down, Hope & Pray, That were on the salt in 2016 !!

They are pumping right now so it will be difficult at this early time to tell. Once it is dry we
l will be able to take a look and plan the events at that time. Bare with SCTA & USFRA with any updates.

Thank You Sir, From Utah , Thats Perfect ! I know I will await your update .

Amen...none of us are getting any younger! I too, am willing to give up 2016 for a healed salt flats for 2017.
I wounder how long the ROOKIE lines will be if the salt is closed for 3 years? Imagine if everyone, has to go through Rookie orientation because their A and AA license expired.
Anyway, back to the positive. We have all had time to rework or refine our equipment so we should all be ready when the salt is ready. So when we do race records should fall!

"Imagine if everyone, has to go through Rookie orientation because their A and AA license expired"
Your license only drops to the next lower class. Next time you run class speed, get it signed off and go to reg trailer to get a new one

Will do. :-D

The license de-rating thing has made me wonder for a while -- but I keep doing what I can to make some runs now and then. . .
Like for instance, though: I've got an A license. The last run I made at Bville was at WoS '13. I'd think, therefore, that I'd be in good graces through the end of the current ('16) season.
But last August I made a few runs at the Mojave Mile in mid-August at the SCTA new event.
Do those passes -- on a different course, etc -- still count as runs on the track and therefore my license is valid for three years -- ending in '18?
I dunno for positive. And while until recently this wasn't much of a vital issue -- with the demise of the racing surface at the salt all too near -- maybe the groups that issue the licenses will need to consider how to enforce the rule.
-
Maybe the SCTA will add time to the licenses, since no one could run since '13?
-
Personally I don't think the license thing is a big deal. If you have a 200+ mph car/bike you probably are going to need a run or so just to make sure the car/bike is also ready so just re-license on that run. Even if you dropped back to an A from a AA you could still run up to 299 on the next run. Back to a B and you could still run up to 249...and so on.
In our case I think this is a good deal as Hooley might of dropped back at this point from an AA to a B so now I won't have to plead with him to keep it under 250 on the first pass 8-),

I think most of us usually do some kind of shakedown pass prior to going balls to the walls. A car or bike you use once or twice a year on the salt requires a little time to reacquaint yourself, with the vehicle and the surface. It is the smart way to do it.
