Probably not news to some of you but my jaw dropped to the floor at PRI.
Was talking with Donny Cummins (Cummins-Beck-Davidson-Thornsberry - 911 A/BFR) and he told me that they are working on a Modified Roadster that will use the engine from the 300 mph 911 Roadster!
300 mph from that brick! Can we possible see 400 mph from a Modified Roadster? ? ? ? ?
I hope I'm there (wherever) when it runs!

Just as impressive, or more impressive is the run that this "Brick" made at ElMo last month.
277 or so, not too bad for a Brick...........

Jeez guys, lighten up. Even Donny laughed at my comment about a 277 mph brick. He countered that is was a VERY fast brick!

Same type of comments were always made about the F-4, one of the most successful Mach 2 fighters in its day.... "you put enough horsepower on a brick and it will go fast"

When I was stationed on a carrier I saw a lot of those land on the flight deck and they dropped like a brick :-o. I would of liked to of been in one for one take off and one landing but that probably would of been plenty :-D.
I lived not far from McDonnell Aircraft and saw the first ones flying as they would come over the house going to land at Lambert Airport outside of St. Louis,

I was an avionics tech/systems QA on the EA-6B and flew in the back seat quite a few times (including carrier takeoff/landing) during my USN time. It used the PW J52-P408(A), which is basically a modified cruise missile engine. Talk about a brick with NOT enough power! Wouldn't break the sound barrier, but still louder than anything else I've heard. Two ruptured ear drums and tinnitus later, I still miss that old turd.
The angle of the engines could throw you across the flight deck very, very easily when the cat hit. The trick was leaning your back towards the jet blast and letting it pick you back up as you ran away.

A "very experienced" shore-duty PO1 didn't listen to me and ended up rolling onto the JBD (jet blast deflector). :evil:

What would Robin Olds say if he was still with us and you guys called the F4 a "Brick"?.

The car will be using number 511, same as the Larsen & Cummins modified from back in the late 50's Okay, maybe it's 115.... :)

It looks like it will be long, low and flat bottomed and with the kind of HP they make it will be fast. I know that the low flat bottom design is very popular in all classes where it will fit but take a look at the unblown gas modified roadster records, A through E all held by the Contrivance Engineering roadster and they went 285 with a D blown gas motor. They have good motors but probably nothing better than is available to any other team that is making a serious run at a record, their aero works!! It is not pretty or low or what ever is the trend of the day but it is FAST!! Imagine this car with some extra wheel base and the 911's lump bolted in! That's a 400 mph modified roadster.
