This is the usual place holder for pics from Wilmington this weekend.
I'll be driving up to Wilmington tomorrow, taking pics Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will post the links in this thread.
Also, anyone who has pics, please feel free to post here!
To ALL racers: Be Safe, Go Fast and Have Fun!

This looks to be shaping up like a REALLY GREAT meet.
Was talking to ronnieroadster this afternoon and he was telling me that several "Bonneville only" cars will be here this weekend!
I've already seen several cars here at the Wilmington Inn that I've not seen before so I'll make sure I get pics of them.

With a little luck; there might possibly be a Porkpie in the house.
He emailed me yesterday from Stainless' place in Wichita.
Whether or nor he may choose to take this in is not for me to know; but he wanted to take in the USAF Museum in Dayton.
Thanks again for all the great pix.
Here's hoping we can link up again on the salt.
Now I fully understand what it might be like to be a Cub's fan.
"Maybe next year!"

I saw in the thread for his phone number that he was going to be in Dayton and kinda thought he might try to get over here.....It's only 40 miles.
Glad you enjoy the pics.....I'm not a pro photographer but at least it let's you know who is here and couple this with the audio stream.....well, maybe it gives a small fix!!!!!
TRUE on the salt.....Maybe next year!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL weather here today for tech inspection.
Extremely good turnout for this meet and the entry count is 150+.
There are MANY bike and car folks that never been here before and they are looking forward to this venue!
Here is my Google+ link to some of today's bikes and cars:

As I always say, talked with many old friends and met quite a few new ones.....Always a good time for me.
As usual, hope you enjoy!

Overcast all day with temps in the upper 60's/low 70's most of the day with light showers late in the day.
Had a mild to moderate crosswind pretty much all day and a course hold for 15 minutes around 2:30 PM.
Mid afternoon many of the fastest bikes were speed limited. Seems like I remember 175 though CRS has kicked in!
Had a couple cars go off-roading at the end of the track and thankfully everyone is OK.
Also, had a car oil down the left side of the track and approximately 15 minutes later we were back raging on the right side.
Thank goodness for this 150' wide runway.
Here is my Google+ link to some of today's bikes and cars in staging, at the start and on the track:

Jack and John, REALLY glad you enjoyed the pics.
As I have posted before, I know what it's like to sit at home and wonder who's there and what's going on and that's why I do the pics and audio streaming!

Forgot to post this news from the drivers meeting this morning.
Next year racing here will go to three meets. The July meet has always been the least attended one (even at Maxton) so it will be dropped.
The GOOD news is that the May and September meets will go to three day meets with tech inspections beginning on Thursday and racing Fri., Sat. and Sun. The June meet will remain at the normal 2 days.
Personally, I think this is an EXCELLENT move by the ECTA folks!

That Ford tractor is KILLING ME!
Nevertheless, it's not the first V8 Flathead Ford tractor I've seen.
Somewhere, I've got a book on the post-war Ford Tractors, and it includes a Flatty powered 8N with a snow plow attachment.
But I definitely prefer the moon discs!

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Gotta admit Chris, that the 8N:

and the "Luke, I'm Your Father", Darth Vader-esque Steam car:

are going to be PRETTY hard to top here or anywhere else! :-D :-D :-D

Glad you like them, Bill! As usual, more tomorrow!
I can say that entries are starting to thin out as there are quite a few cars on trailers here at the Wilmington Inn.

Big Joe T,
I see that you were just logged in and wanted to say it's still strange to not have you and Donna here!
Gary and Bobby told me that you guys were doing well and have just gotten a bigger boat.....Congrats!!!!
I've heard it said before that the two best days in a boat owners life are the day you buy it and the day you sell it!!!!! LOL :-D
You guys come back out here sometime! Seems like you two owe us a 200+ Streamliner and Motorcycle!
Miss Y'All,
Gregg

It appears that the 8N says "TO830". Does ECTA now have a tractor class?
DUH... "Time Only" I guess?
Note to self: Think then speak...

Comon Jack, that stands for Tractor Oreally! :-D
Sid.

Many thanks for play by play and pics from someone stuck at work...
co-workers think I'm crazy
-
The tractor's been entered at SpeedWeek for the last couple of years. It might be the best vehicle for track conditions, but still didn't run. Nor anyone else.
-
Cloudy with temps in the low 60's for the morning and then sunny for the afternoon with temps in the mid 70's. Pretty constant cross/headwind for the better part of the day which seems the norm for here.
Again, this was a full meet + so we ran all the way to 4:00 PM. As I posted yesterday, there were many new to the ECTA bikes and cars and what a pleasure to see!
Fastest bike of the meet was Shane Stubbs this morning at a new track record of 248 and change.
Fastest car of the meet and year was Ron Keselowski this afternoon at 236 and change.
This was probably one of the best ECTA meets I've been to!
   to the ECTA!
I hung out mostly at the finish line with the track photographer Dave Whealon so I did not get many pics.

When you finally see it run Stan you will enjoy it. Unique to say the least.
If my feeble memory serves me correctly, they ran a best of 89 and change this afternoon.

Some highlights of this meet to me:
lr.com's own ronnieroadster - Ron Sangiovanni with a 179 and change in his blown flathead RMR.
Shawn Mote's crew chief Dar Borradaile in the Coupe de Kill Cadillac with a 208 and change. Man, I LOVE that car!!!!!
Jon Dennison in the GORGEOUS Dennison and Liddell C/GR with a 218 and change.
Robert Hustler with a 222 and change from his C/GALT Ford Probe.
Shane Stubbs with that motorcycle track record 248 and change.
Ron Keselowski with the meet/year record of 236 and change from his C/GCT.
Bob Merickle with a 218 and change in his C/GMMP.
I'm sure there were many bike accomplishments but I'm a car guy.....Sorry!
Hopefully, someone will post about the bikes!

I need to add that I heard Brian say at the close this afternoon that, with 150+ entries, we were right at 500 runs.
MAJOR KUDOS to the ECTA and the volunteers!!!

Brian really never ceases to amaze me with the info he has or gets!
Case in point, the steam car at this meet:
Feeble memory, So IIRC.....there's 900' of small tubing in the boiler. After the water is heated, there is a valve that will only build 250 PSI. This PSI is fed into a modified RX7 rotary and the power is transferred out to a chain drive that powered the car to a 38 MPH speed today. Over the winter he will change that 250 PSI valve to a 1000 PSI and speed should increase.
Admirable!

I work on the Merickle S-10. He actually ran a 212.450 beating the old record by 20mph. Appreciate the great pics. Rather proud of this build and it was well received at the meet as was the Metro when we built it. We were within 2mph of our expected mph with this gear.
The TO for the tractor is a Tractor Only class. They had issues with it popping out of gear on Sat. but figured it out after 2 passes at 45 and 55 seeking a 100mph goal. They ended up with a 96+mph run. Had issues with the soft 747 airplane tires not having enough air in them and getting a bouncy/squishy ride. The said they used a whole bottle of nitrogen and it only put like 70psi in the tires. They couldn't figure out how to get more in those huge tires.
-
I was hoping my "slow" record would stand at 46.5mph but it looks like the steam streamliner has me beat.

Sorry I got the speed wrong....Still, 212 is EXCELLENT for your 1st outing!!!!!
When my friend, Paul Powell, told me that Bob would be bringing a new truck to this meet, I knew it would be spectacular.....just like the Metropolitan. To me, it is as equally spectacular. You guys, as well as Rabbit, did a fantastic job on this truck!
Also, thanks for the info on the tractor.
If you guys are here next year, I'll stop by and say howdy.
REALLY, REALLY LOVE the truck,
Gregg

Not a fair comparison.....you're internal combustion and he's steam. In my book, you still have your record.
Besides, he did not give an interview while he was coming down the track.....ROTFLMFAO - Epic!!!!!
Brian said this was the 1st time this car had moved under it's own power. Previous was run on jackstands in the garage. And just to let you know, he was pushed to almost the 1st turnout.....What, 1/2 mile?
Again, admirable,
Gregg

Ronnieroadster has a good looking Pushwagon and it's ALLmost a Flathead. :-D   Wayno
-
I was wondering if the push truck pushed him to 80mph and he coasted the steamer through the traps at better than the old record would it count? Kind of a cool engine in the steamer. It's a Mazda 2 rotor Wankel, each cycle the steam hits the top of one of the rotors and the bottom and then on the next revolution it fires the next rotor the same way.
-
I was heading to the timing trailer when the steam car ran and after he came off the push truck there were actual "puffs" of steam coming out of the "exhaust". This continued all the way to short shutdown and over to the return road. My assumption is that he was under his own power but I ain't no steam expert!!!!!

The said they used a whole bottle of oxygen and it only put like 70psi in the tires. They couldn't figure out how to get more in those huge tires.
I hope they were using nitrogen, not oxygen. If anything wrong happened with oxygen in the tires there could be a really ugly and possibly fatal fire. Nitrogen is really stable and safe. It's what's used in most race car tires. They just need more cylinders of nitrogen to fill the tires to the pressure they want.

Wayno, Maybe not a flathead but it does say "Ron's Hobby Shop Racing Wallingford, CT" on the front fenders........major COOL in my book. That was going to be his push car at Bonneville this year. Man, what a sight to see with that pushing/towing his roadster!

If you don't have a compressor and are using bottles, like filling a scuba tank to high pressure, you need a cascade of bottles to get the pressure.

-
We use a high pressure nitrogen cylinder to fill our shocks to 350 psi and our tires. One small cylinder with 2000-3000 psi in it will last a long time. You find them at a gas or welding supply store.

Looking forward to the three day meets to get my speed fix next year!

Hi Wayno
My buddys 54 Ford station wagon we use as the team car is powered by a nice 312 Y Block with three deuces along with the standard aluminum goodies under the hood. The Hill Boys name comes from a section of the city New Haven CT where we grew up. so long ago. Some would say we still havent grown up! :-D

The Y-blocks were well represented at this meet. And the answer to "Y" is Y-not! :-D :-D

I may be getting older, but I refuse to grow up. I recently learned that if you haven't grown up by the time you're 50, you don't have to. :-D I'm safe.
