I am looking for a 1967-68 Porsche 912 twin rotor, roots type, smog pump to use on a 50cc pushrod motor I am building. I believe it was also used on VW buses from that era. The unit is suitable for engines of 33-300cc displacement. 772-468-2144 reedspeed1@aol.com Jim Reed

I hope you get what you are looking for.
But I have always wondered about using superchargers on very small engines like this. Can they increase power more than they take to turn? They of course take energy from the crankshft, but what is the advantage of using a supercharger over a turbo charger which uses no crankshaft power? Not enough exhaust pressure from the small engine?
Thanks
Don

Although it has been done Jim, I doubt the energy taken to drive a supercharger could match the power gains it would produce ???

An Aussy mate , Dave Plecas, is so close to getting a compound turbo setup working well on a 125cc single, actually it already works well, (111 mph) but has yet to be unleashed :-o
My supercharged 250/4 looses 10 bhp driving the blower

Thanks for the comments. I got interested in the idea after seeing Anders Elsberg's site and talking to him. He has successfully supercharged Honda 50 engines and has used them in a beautiful 50cc road racing GP bike he also built for vintage road racing in Germany.

Ive seen 70s Ford smog pumps used. I don't know if they actually did anything or just got them into a blown class

I saw a little single out there once, with a smog pump. He ha remover the hose between the pump and his carburetor. Said it was faster that way.

I remember Fritz Kott putting a smog pump on his bike's engine a handful of years ago - so he could run in a blown class. It turned by belt -- but didn't do anything to force induction.
As I remember -- that's how the rules got tweaked to say that a blower must increase the pressure going into the carb.
