Title: Where do i send
Post by: Kansas Bad Man on July 29, 2015, 01:23:14 PM
Who is shaving tires? do they require a wheel or just the tire? Would they want it mounted and the air pressure that it will be running?

 Cheers,

Call Nate Jones at Cowboy tire. I don't have the number handy, Max.

Interesting -- I don't have any but a '13 Rulebook here -- and I don't see Nate Jones' ad in it.  There's been one many times in the past -- maybe I'll find one at home tonight.

I've had him shave tires for me a bunch of times.  I've sent the wheel to him and he supplied/mounted a brand-new tire for me.  He'll ask stuff like where you plan to run the tire - Bville, EM, paved track, etc, and what speeds you anticipate running.  He'll shape the tire based on the information you give him to use.

Return shipping can be all the way from full rate - UPS or whatever - to free --"I'll have Racer So-and-So deliver it to your pits, Slim".  He's on the Speed Demon crew and can always find a minute to offer help with your tire needs when he's on the salt, too.

:-D Thanks a bunch guys and gals, made the call, it's a done deal, NATE had the answers and my wheel and tire will be going off in a couple of weeks. BTW SSS I will be getting a buck or two off to you soon , I just have to remember to do it, at 76 now its hard to remember what I had for breakfast or for that matter if I even had breakfast. I just looked down at the clean T shirt I put on this morning, no dried eggs so I think I probably missed breakfast but its got a lot of greasy on it , where did that come from? I must have been doing something in the garage. I think I better go see what it was . :

I took the time this afternoon to watch the Big Red series that will be running the next few weeks. There was an interview with Nate Jr. and he showed the equipment and methods they use to shave tires.

They hold the Bonneville and the El Mirage record for footage.

I believe they (Big Red and driver RJ) hold pavement standing mile speed record speeds. They tried the salt at the Cook 2014 event so perhaps its only time before they get a handle on mile LSR records.

I think they hold the track record, for a car, at Mojave.

Malcolm --

They ran 2013 SpeedWeek and El Mirage numerous times.  Their film crews are pesty and impertinent.  No records yet.
