Title: Motorcyle leathers
Post by: mtkawboy on July 11, 2015, 01:00:47 PM
Is there any reasonably priced leathers that meet all the SCTA rules ?

Lots of them... you just need to shop a lot.... ebay, craigslist... lots of new off the shelf sportbike leathers won't qualify.  Ours are old flat track leathers... all leather... minimum vents.
Good Luck with the search

Of course, check the current rule book first then take your new/used leathers to a reputable boot/shoe shop and have the vents covered/sewn (i had mine done for a resonable fee).  Also check the zipper if you get a two piece suit.  IIRC they have to be metal and sewn to the leather not the lining.

I have a set that will fit you if you're about 5'8" and 170lbs.
Excellent condition and cheap.
The waist shrunk.

I have a set of well cared for Bates leathers. And they are scta legal.
Used four seasons.
Leather conditioner every fall.
Never been down. No tears, splits or rips.

I am 5 foot 10 inches.
My weight has been 215 to 245 pounds. Little snug at 245.

216.990.8547. Or PM me.
Paid $1550.  Sell half price.
Hopefully, the other set won't be outgrown either.

Im about 5ft 8 and 192 lbs and the other rider is about 5ft 7 and around 140 lbs. Thanks guys Ill see what I can find. I have that same problem, my clothes keep shrinking. This whole deal is still in the maybe stage, Im old at 71 but its on my bucket list. I don't care about records, I just want to do it.

Sounds like you need 2 sets of leathers....  that reminds me, I need to see if mine still fit or if there was a lot of leather shrinkage the past couple of years

From the article in the Salt Lake paper from the USFRA I may not be needing any. That's a shame if the government let money get in the way of natures finest work. See post about 2015 salt conditions

If anyone needs leathers repaired or modified, I would suggest Amanda at Speedsport Leathers (479) 292-3311.  She has repaired my custom made Syed leathers a couple times.  Very nice person to deal with and really cares about the quality of her work.

Top Gear Leather http://www.topgearleather.com/ has made two sets for me so far. Reasonable price and made to your measurements. Make sure to tell them no perforations and they will make it happen. Also, the only reason I have two sets is I had trouble reaching everything with the first set. I misinterpreted the rules and had them take out the accordion style stretch panels. Worked fine for the first layout of the bike but my knees are tucked up a bit further now so it made it tough to reach. I am planning on bringing both sets with me anyway so you two are welcome to give the spares a shot. I'm 5'7" about 170.

Thank you for your kind offer but it wont be this year, maybe next depending on the salt outlook or maybe not at all.
