Post by: gkabbt on June 03, 2015, 07:15:58 AM
This is the usual place holder for pics from Wilmington this weekend.

I'll be driving up to Wilmington tomorrow, taking pics Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will post the links in this thread.

Also, anyone who has pics, please feel free to post here!
To ALL racers: Be Safe, Go Fast and Have Fun!

In case you didn't hear/read it, we've now got a permanent place on the home page of the website for a direct link to Meridix - the site that does our streaming.  Said link is ALSO posted near the top of the Forum home page.  If you want the folks back at home to hear the stream (relatives, neighbors, sponsors, whomever) all they need to do is click on either link and have at it.

Also I'll remind you that Meridix also records and saves all of the audio (archives it) and it can be accessed any ol' time.  You can listen when you get home, you can find your runs a month or four later.  Go to the landracing.com page of Meridix and select the archives and then you'll be ready to follow through to the date you're seeking.

Thanks to the firm that has offered to contribute some $$ to help us keep the streaming going.  As soon as I get permission I'll tell you who it is.  But for now -- thanks, Brian.

Does Congress know about this?

Well, umn, unh, mmm -- --- I think they don't officially know but they do talk about whether or not they should investigate and then do something.  If the files were on a serparate server there'd be no problem, of course.

Fred, I hate that for ya.....

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL weather here today for tech inspection.
Very good turnout for this meet! I heard the entry count is around 100.
Talked with many old friends and met quite a few new ones.....Always a good time for me.

Here is my Google+ link to some of today's bikes and cars:

Ransom, I heard about your misfortune.....that's gotta be $$$$. Sorry you're not here.

Gregg, we keep really enjoying your pictures but it would be even neater if you didn't get to take many at some point because you were too busy running your truck. How's it coming?  :-D :-D :-D

Oh, S U R E !

I skip June, and a real Mini shows up, along with a Studebaker Lark wagon!

There is simply nothing like this in any other form of motorsport.

Have fun, Gregg!

PJ,
It's SO ironic asking about my truck at this time.
Bill Warner's death, back in 07/13, had a profound effect on me and made me take a HARD look at my own mortality.
For the last almost 2 years, when I would I to the garage to work on it, I found that I could not.
Only within the past couple of months could I talk about or even have the desire to work on it but I am back on it.
I feel that doing the pictures and audio has been my contribution to the sport and I REALLY do enjoy doing it!
Enough of a downer.....SORRY!

So to answer your question, I have been working on it and hope to have it off the rotisserie by the end of the month and get that back to Steve. My last major $$$$ is the transmission and hope to have that by the end of the month also.
I would like to have here in September but May 2016 is more realistic.
At least I am working on it again!

Thanks for asking,
Gregg

PERFECT day here for Land Speed Racing. Overcast all day with temps in the mid/upper 60's most of the day.
BEST thing was an 8 - 10 MPH tailwind all day which is extremely rare.

REALLY GOOD racing ALL day from both bikes and cars!

Tip of the hat from me to a couple of race teams and I was so excited for them.

1st is Sean Mote in his Coupe de Kill Cadillac. He had a "soft" 1st pass at 196 and change.
A couple of hours later.....BAM - FINALLY over 200 with a 205 and change.
I've said it before and will say it again.....Man, I LOVE that car!
In long shutdown after the 205 pass:

2nd is Amy and Frank Hartman who have partnered with Angela Brennen and Mike Matyjasic.
Amy had a soft 1st pass at 128. About an hour later a 2nd pass at 161 and finally about 2 hours after that.....BAM - Amy gets her "B" license with a 180 and change pass.
In long shutdown after the 180 pass:

Also, I didn't see the run but heard that Steve and his Rampage upped his record here to 135! Much better than the 123 he ran last year. I only spoke to him 1st thing this morning and then didn't see him the rest of the day. Hopefully, I'll catch up with him tomorrow.

Here is my Google+ link to some of today's bikes and cars in staging, at the start and on the track:

Gregg -

Pass on my congrats to Frank, Amy and Steve.

So what's up with the Mini?  Did somebody just shoe polish a number on it for kicks, or did it run?

Missed most of the broadcast - let me know if you're having any issues.

For what appears to be a very sanitary street driven Mini with license plates, knockin' on the door of 100 is an accomplishment.

Stan,
you asked about how I did. The bad news was that the driveshaft perished.  The better news was a 183.825 run that would have improved if the windshield was not covered in oil right before the timing lights with loss of forward vision as well as the desire to keep on the throttle. It is always nice to discover the problems early.

Yo, robin.  It's good to hear from you.  It's been almost forever.  Sorry that Nancy and I weren't at Wil-ton to say howdy, but maybe - if you find a new driveshaft -- maybe we'll see you on the salt some day soon.  Say hi to the rest of the gang of idiots (Mad Magazine) that hang around with you.

Weather today was totally different than yesterday. Sunny, mid 80's and worst of all, constant headwind.
As I suspected, MANY of the competitors left after Saturday's racing or this morning so turnout was very light.
As the morning progressed, more and more folks evidently had enough fun and left.
Naturally, with less folks came the hot lapping and there was plenty from around 11:00 AM on!
All-in-all a good meet.

Fastest bike of the meet was Scott Jones at 222 and change.
Fastest car of the meet was Ron Keselowski at 232 and change

I did not get many pics and am almost embarrassed to post the very few pics I did get.

Robin, My apologies for saying the rear end let go. When you came by the timing trailer, that is what it sounded like to me. Drive shaft is better ($$$$) than rear end!

Will you be back this year?

Cars were complaining as well. Sean's Cadillac, with Dar at the helm, "only" managed a 189 with a 13 mph headwind!
Would have been REALLY cool to see him in the 2 club like Sean!

Having thought about it for a couple of hours, my favorite moments of this week end were:

Top speed for cars:   Ron Keselowski in his NASCAR Charger at 232!!!!!
Top Speed for bikes: Scott Jones at 222 with his bike!!!!!

Sean Mote and the 205 out of the Cadillac Coupe de Kill!!!!!

Amy Hartman for getting her B license at 180!!!!!

Steve Menendez, upping his H/DT record from 123 to 135!!!!!

Jerry Hoffman running 215 in his F/BGC 2JZ powered 240SX!!!!!

Mike Reichen running with, as he told me, 30 LBS of boost went 212!!!!!
If you don't know the car, it's a AWD Mitsubishi EVO and can HAUL A$$ BIG TIME - went 237 at Maxton!!!!!
BTW - He is planning on Loring in July and I'm REALLY looking forward to that!!!!!
He REALLY might hit Ludicrous Speed there and see plaid!!!!!  LOL...LOL...LOL!

Greg Neal at 191 with a 650CC bike!!!!!

Probably more but these are the ones that I have thought of most!!!!!

I hear ya on working on a car, you can miss a lot of what's going on if your trying to run a car yourself.

? is that the same set of pictures just a couple more?

And BTW no point in gripping about a head wind, doesn't do any good.

Thanks for all the support, Gregg, Keith, Brian, Kerri, Tonya, and everyone else.

The June meet was a big success all around.

If anyone's interested, here are a couple of videos taken from the cab of my Rampage.

First video is of the new Record Run (on low boost).  This was the first pass with the new injection pump and new turbo.  The old record was 123.xx mph and the new record is 135.6xx.  This setup is running STRONG for a 1.5L diesel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2Hn--X847Q

Second video is my friend Darrell, making his Rookie licensing pass, trying to run 125 +/- 5 mph.  He ran 128, with some clutch slippage in 4th gear.  This video was shot out the back window of the Rampage.  I'll apologize now to the EPA and the fine people of Ohio for all the black smoke.

Steve.
