So if you got a wild hair and chopped/sectioned a mid-60s coupe and decided to make a landracer out of it instead of a street hot rod, what would be the class most easy to fit into?

No sectioning allowed for class. TO if you have a skinny car.

Perhaps there is a problem with terminology.
I'm in agreement - buy a rulebook. It will answer your questions.

Chopped and sectioned, as in the top is chopped and the body is sectioned. It's common custom hot rod terminology.

Then sorry to inform you, as has been already been said, there are NO classes that allow sectioning of any kind in the SCTA.
You will run time only.

Because some people like to ask questions better than getting the answer for themselves. however, any answer you get here is only an informed, (or not) opinion. If you are at all serious about building an LSR car you really need to cough up the $10 and get a rule book. Then if you still have questions, and you will, you can inquire here, or email the people who can give you an official answer. Their contact information can be found, guess where? The rule book.

Why an SCTA rules topic? How about - because there are times when someone doesn't understand a rule and feels that asking on this Forum for some information or background or experience. We all pretty well know that we can't get rules rulings here -- but lots of times we can find out something that makes it worthwhile to have asked.

Sometimes there is a guy here who has 50+ years experience and has been involved with writing the rule book most of those 5 decades.

Rule 4.Y defines sectioning as removing a horizontal piece of the body and rejoining. Standard Hot Rod terminology. There is no class which uses a production body that allows rule 4.Y.
Jeff Brock has a Buick in build stage that is chopped, sectioned AND narrowed. Still no class to run in.

Time only it shall be. I really only care about speed anyway.

Just know then, that if you decide to run Time Only, you must build to the safety specs of a class record it sorta fits in, or an estimated speed that it might go. And then, you may face Speed Limits imposed due to your level of safety equipment. So build for that, if you can figure it out. Otherwise, just build for the highest standards and you'll, probably, be okay.

I don't have a rule book in front of me and am more of a bike guy so am not that versed in the car sections but theoretically, could he run under a streamliner class? I realize he probably wouldn't want to because its apples and oranges as far as aerodynamics so he might as well be running TO but could he run it that way? I know it's probably a dumb question, just curious.
