what is your priority, racing or having a motel room and racing

if you want to race at SW, enter, go and race

i recommend doing whatever it takes to attend SW, because of all
it encompasses

you can wing it for a night or two or so, pitch a tent, free camping, sleep in car, shower
at an acquaintances room, or at the truck stop near access road, or
at north end of strip, im told the shower facilities are pretty amazing

after a day or two or so, rooms come available

Go to SpeedWeek as a spectator if you haven't been to Bville before.  If you take a race vehicle you'll be busy with it - and will miss the time you could use to meet folks, learn the way of the event(s), and get way less than you might if you didn't have the hassle/fun of trying to get your bike doing well.  Then -- go to either the BMST or World of Speed and race.

As for lodging -- SpeedWeek is expensive to stay commercially, so if you don't mind camping (or renting an RV) you should think about spending the first few nights in a tent or something.  After that prices come down drastically and there are lots of rooms available.  At the other events you'll find less racers, less costs, less race vehicles, and less stress as you try to make your first runs.

But whatever you do -- get ready for a wonderful way to spend time and to meet great people.

Two last things:  Get a couple of rulebooks (SCTA and USFRA use the same book, BMST uses AMA, I believve) and read, read, read.  Learn everything you can and also spend time here on this Forum asking questions and reading and learning and enjoying.  And second -- go back to the Profile page of registration and fill in your location so we know who's in your neighborhood in case we want to respond in person when you ask for help.

Montego Bay/Peppermill/Rainbow don't take reservations until about early February.  Start watching their site late January for their package deal.  I'm not sure about the Nugget, but I think they start taking reservations in January.

Yes, the casinos are more expensive than other options, but they are NOT yet booked up for Speed Week.

In my opinion if you are only going to one event for the year or your first time out with a bike or car it would Speed Week. I have attended three in the last 4 yeas there and enjoyed the way it is run in a more laid back so to speak way. The Stewarts and volunteers seem to be there to help you race. The team and rider have set two records at the event and enjoyed the method of measuring engine size rather then tearing down to inspect and measure. My liner is a rather tight package and a tear down is not a easy job. The records at the WOS are SCTA and the trophies are a cut above the norm. My son and I stayed at Motel 6 , the double non smoking cost $39.00 a night. HOPE THIS HELPS, GO RACING BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN.

Slim, keep an eye on your mail box.

Max,
You said Speed Week, did you mean World of Speed by chance.
The motel price has me wondering.

40 years ago there were a lot less rooms.  That scenario doesn't play any more.  Rooms open up (sometimes) on Sunday, more on Monday, take your choice on Tuesday from what I've seen.

The problem with renting a room in advance is virtually all of them want a four or five day minimum.  I talked to the guy at I think it was Comfort Suites and he said he would take reservations soon but he wanted Casino type prices too ($200+/night).  Based on that, we will probably do the Montego Bay again next year.  The spa, pool, good food, secure parking, all make this an easy sale for my crew chief/wife.  As an added bonus, they were pretty quick to refund our rooms this year, despite my having rented knowing I would not be eligible for a refund if I canceled.   Here's to the casinos being classier than I suspected they might be.

PS.  We spent much more than that in Beaver Creek, Colorado on the way home, pretty wiping out any refund savings!

I'll never understand the panic that not having a room booked seems to cause.  For years I drove an RV and camped at the Bend.  Three years ago it died on the way.  We left on a Wed.  Got back home Wed. night.  Loaded the pick up Thurs. morning.  Looked on landracing and found a room for sale.  Made a call and I was set.  Same last year.  A week before the event I took a look here and sure enough there were four rooms available.  Same this year.  No problem.  If you cant find a room (but they are out there) Lumpy, just keep an eye on here.

The KOA take bookings Jan second 8am their time. If you have an RV you need to call them then or you won't get in. Just keep calling till you get through.

Lumpy, the motels may show as being full but the casinos won't start taking reservations until around February.  If you make reservations when they first start taking them, you will have to pay the full amount for the rental, but at least you have the comfort of getting the room you want, at the hotel you want.  The longer you wait, the more limited the selection gets.  If money is too tight and you have a car or truck that gets decent mileage, then you may opt for Salt Lake City or one of the small towns in eastern Nevada.  If you are racing, that commute just takes too much time away, especially if you have to be there at 6 in the morning.
