Title: Bob McCoy passed
Post by: Glen on October 01, 2014, 09:01:30 PM
Bob McCoy a long time lakes and Bonneville racer passed today. His red tee roadster was always as awesome as his great art work. God Speed Bob, RIP. Bob was a member of the San Diego Roadster Club :-(

McCoy will live on with the SDRC.

He drew the San Diego Roaster Club logo.

Long live Bob McC.

I never met Bob but admired his cars and his art work. And I liked his modified roadster in black before he changed it to red.
Godspeed...

The number 67 in gold leaf really stood out.

I always liked Bob and one story sticks in my battered mind.  We were at El Mirage late in the season one year and I was standing on the staring line talking to him prior to his run. He was driving the T roadster but it was bright red at the time and had the gold flaming chicken on the hood.  Comes his turn and off he goes, big motor, high horsepower, short wheelbase, and quick steering zig zagging down the course almost from cone to cone! He ran 2+ and I went to see him in his pit to ask him about the run.  He looked at me with that goofy grin he could do, made an up and down chopping motion with his right hand and said "Straight Arrow!" I told him that if it really was straight arrow his speed would have been near 250!  He just shook his head and laughed, but that was Bob.  Rest in Peace my friend. We all lost an incredible talent.
