Hope all is going well Jack. Having spent big bucks for the Dolan post decoding, deciphering book you can't stop now. In all seriousness, I know we all wish you the very best. You have been a big part of the LSR scene forever. May your return run be faster than the down run.    Larry

Hey Bob, when Jack gets back, he will likely be a new man. The new kidney will filter out all the poision making him as sweet as pie!!!! You won't even recognise him, he will sign all his posts XOXOXO!!!

Even though we have our disagreements, (usually just by him being wrong and me pointing it out :P ) I hope Jack all the best and hope he gets back into "typing" shape ASAP. :o

BTW, what year did he and Jeffries win the SCTA Championship? Was it 1987??? Anybody got the results for that whole season showing all the runs and records?

Title: Jack Dolan Update
Post by: JackD on August 01, 2006, 11:36:19 AM
Hello to everyone who knows the one and only Jack Dolan. As you may already know he had a kidney transplant, last week Wed. Yes he has Diabetes and has been on Dialysis and the kidney list for the past 2 1/2 years. It was quite a surprise getting a call from his kidney coordinator saying, "we may have a kidney for you so stand by". From the first phone call to when he was escorted into the OR room it was 32 hours. The donor donated his/her kidneys, liver, heart and lungs. We thank this person with all our hearts to give Jack and other recipients another chance of a new life.
The surgery was successful. He had some complications a couple of days but is doing physically well. His new kidney is still not quite awake as the doctors hoped it would by this date, so the docs did a biopsy on Sun. to determine if it was sleeping or rejecting. Not until Monday afternoon did we find out it is just sleeping. (HURRAY, NOT REJECTING) Waiting is torture.
Last night he was moved to IMU care unit to give a stronger medicine to jump start his kidney to get this show on the road. He will be there for 2 to 3 days. The medical team will be watching his reaction to the medicine. He called me this morning in good spirits asking when I will be by. He is doing well with the medicine after being on it for 10 of 12 hours with a IV drip for 2 to 3 days. He is in a room with 2 other people and is talking up a storm about his family and racing life experiences. Hard to get a word in when he gets started, but he loves every minute of it. He just loves to talk to people as you all know.
Glen left a message on my machine yesterday to call him which I will.
I can go on about his kidney experience but maybe he will do that himself. I didn't know that he shared this info with you, but am glad he did. He is rather a quiet person about his health. So on these words I will sign off now or for now and let you know how he is doing. Our son told me this morning about Jack's own topic of interest on landracing so here it is.
I will print this for him to read and I'm sure he may shed a few tears of appreciation. Thank you all for your get well concerns and as soon as Jack gets home you will get an ear full I'm sure.

His better half, Sami

Thanks for the update, we are all concerned and thinking of the old grouch. Many are new on his site and have never met Jack. But those of that have known him many years realize that we are a big family and care a lot for each other. We may not always agree but thats the way the sport is. Tell him hello and we will be waiting to here from him.

Best wishes Jack for a land speedy recovery!!!

Being free of a regular dialysis machine sounds like one of those amazing life changing acts like retirement (?). I am sure you'll know exactly what to do with your extra time though.

Thank you for all your advice thus far on our project, and looking forward to much more.

Yours sincerely,

Title: Rescue mission
Post by: Freud on August 01, 2006, 08:45:41 PM
Let's organize a recovery party and rescue Jack's nursing staff from him.

I saw a '54 Ford pickup equipped for hauling a gurney. We could bust him out of the hospital and the ICU staff would pay us to take him on a vacation.

Sounds like it's time we look out for him one year and this should be the one. It would be much easier when he is stitched together than if we wait until he is recovered.

Now I understand how he has been losing some of his recent pissin' matches.

He will be a terror when he's recovered.

It will be a long time before he is of any use to Sami. She may even send his Living Will with us if we snatch him. B'ville would speed his recovery. I have a feeling that he will be ready for next years Australia Meet. Disappearing ink on his passport would eliminate his return.

What will we use the money for that we collect in his name at the Bend in the Road party?

Get well quick Jack.

Someone asked what year Jeffries and Dolan won SCTA Points Champ.  1986
They set a record at every meet.  Also set a record every day at B-ville

Words of wisdom I learned from Jack, "The easiest component to change in a car is the driver."

Get well soon Jack.  Rolf Harris wrote a song years ago about kidney transplants.  Wish I knew all the words.
The first few lines went,

Who's got Sidneys kidney?
He said we could have it
Didn't he.

Can't remember anymore.  I've been assured kidney transplant don't cause mellowness.

The 83  "Far and Wider" article generated quite a bit of interest.
They missed more than a few things , including the fact that between El Mirage and Bonneville.
We set 21 class records with 2 EXP/LN7 based cars and were sandbagging about 10%.
I was offered an S-2000 by Honda but didn't need to go to work for them and had faster cars already.

Title: DRUGS ?
Post by: JackD on August 06, 2006, 02:30:33 PM
The other people around thought they were mixing their drugs wrong and I left them with that thought at least.
The stuffy head DR. that led all the others around by fear, softened up and by the 3rd day he had ditched the starched collar and tie in favor of a Polo shirt.
I knew I had him in my grips when "ONLY HOSPITAL  ADMINISTERED DISTILLED WATER" was required and the first thing they did each time was pour it into a bucket of ice made from City Water.
I scheduled  for that to happen during one of those rounds led by him and that realization sorta broke the ice so to speak.

I got word that he made up a pair of ties like I suggested and 1 is waiting for me when I go back tomorrow for a check up.
He sounds to be in good humor, the short coats are still shaking, but I will have a nurse test it for contaminants.
He will do fine.

With a BLOOD draw twice and a clinical exam the next day Sun, Mon, Wed, Fri, I am on a pretty short leash for a couple of weeks.
With 3 grandsons running Jr dragsters next weekend at Fontana and a meeting with NHRA that weekend, I am spoken for a bit.
With 60+ E-mails yet to answer, that is my best excuse.

Well as I told the Doctors this AM while in for a checkup, "While you say my total volume and quality is good, my distance and accuracy still need work."
It is kinda like standing close enough to step in their toes and then yelling.
It should be a natural for me and come right back.
We have 6 race cars booked for a display at a school for Marine dependants on Saturday.
We are going to start 1 up and let kids sit in 1 of the others.
