I read the article until I got to the part where the writer stated that as
speed doubles, the power required to overcome aerodynamics multiplies
by 4.

Wrong!  The FORCE required multiplies by 4 (or the square of the factor
of increase of the speed), and the POWER required multiplies by a factor
of 8, or the cube of the factor of increase of the speed.

I wish motojournalists would learn the truth before writing misleading
stuff.

At that point, I gave up reading the article, because I had lost faith in
the writer.

Hot Rod Mag is trying to promote Land Speed Racing the facts may not be perfect but the fact is there helping get the word out that this stuff is happening.

Tall, you obviously don't understand journalism... unlike engineering, a good journalist will not let a few facts get in the way of a good read... and as stated a little good press is good for the sport....
Ok, I think I will sit down and color  :-D
