I see that Larry Monreal passed. He was a neat guy and a huge part of Landspeed Racing for a long time. 'Bye Larry  :cheers: Wayno

Sorry to hear, Larry was a great racer. RIP Larry. :-(

Larry was most noted in recent years campaigning a Karmann-Ghia.  Here are a few pictures of a very early tank he ran with Jim Harber in the San Berdoo Roadsters.

(For you youngsters, tanks were then classified as Streamliners, not Lakesters.)

And..... 60 years later at Speedweek 2009

Larry was a good guy and will definitely be missed. RIP my friend.

I will always remember Larry. He was an interesting person. RIP my friend.

Larry was a fun guy...we shared a lot in the 70-80's. I will miss my friend.......JD

Gonna miss that man.

A true boyhood hero of yrs truly.

Before his Fireman days, Larry parked his '34 fenderless coupe with a '37 grille at a Shell station on E st in San Bernardino while he worked at a local car dealership.

My route for the long defunct LA Daily News took me by there every afternoon and needless to say I stopped and lusted after the car daily.

With the advent of Colton Drags I got to know him with his "Quiet Kid" outboard powered motorbike and other ventures. In later years I'd do fabrication work for him from time to time and  used to stop  by his "shop" in a pretty scary area of San Berdoo far too seldom to share a beverage. He gave me good advice too when I had prostate work pending to the point of taking me to Loma Linda Medical Center to view their program and on and on.

 A PS to the above mentioned Monreal Harber Belly tank.

 Later owned by another hero of mine, C W "Scotty" Scott and driven by Leroy Holmes, it made the first over 200 mph run at Bonneville open wheeled with Scotty's 258" Ardun.

Larry's passing leaves a hole in our hearts. Many people do not know that Larry's wife Annette was the purple lady. Everything in their home was purple, the race cars had purple numbers, etc. Joanie and I brought her some items from the Purple Store in Boston once.
