Title: Snow storm in the Pacific NW?
Post by: Seldom Seen Slim on February 10, 2014, 09:19:02 AM
Hey -- did you hear about the big snowstorm, mixed with ice and misery, in the NW part of the country?  I saw a photo of a 50-vehicle pile-up near Eugene, OR, and right away thought of Don and Gus Jackson and the rest of that family, too.  Any word out of the NW coast racers?  Is everyone okay?  Gus, did you hide the snowshovel so your dad couldn't find it 'til you had already left for school?  good move -- I approve.

Be careful in the snow, folks.  You're not used to it like we are.

Slim, that must have been one of those freak storms the Pacific NW experiences ocassionally. George M. and I live about 300 mi. farther north on the Olympic Peninsula and so far, been a mild winter with less than an inch of snow (yesterday).

Jon,
We only had a couple days of the ice here, but a few miles North toward Eugene was very nasty.

When they shut down the malls it's serious.

Gus was sick in bed the days the school was closed.  :-(

My daughter is at the University of Portland and sent pictures of a group of them sledding on purloined cafeteria trays.  :-D

Currently 39 outside, Don

I am in the Tacoma area.  We had about 6" of snow on Sunday, but here it is Monday morning and the rain has almost washed it all away.

Glad you're all okay, Don. Cafeteria trays?I remember using them when I was in my first year at Tech -- sliding down the hill from Co-ed Hall on green plastic/fiberglas trays.  I am surprised that the world of technology hasn't moved on to something more modernistical.

Treit had a foot of snow in Aurora, Oregon (about 25 miles south of Portland) and One Run Bob was in a similar situation.

It's raining there now and the snow is slowly melting.

In Everett, WA we had 2" of very dry snow. By Sunday afternoon the roads were all clear.

Today it's mid 30's. We are 30% behind on our rainfall.

They have moved on. The bottoms are now treated with Pam of some other very slippery spray.

Well, I suppose that'd work, but I prefer Preparation H.  by the way, a card, per your suggestion, is on the way.

We had exactly 11.5 inches on the picnic table snow gage.  It was a the most snow we have recorded in the 28 years we have lived here.  Other than the snow, it was a very mild storm compared to many we have experienced.
