I just received a Cool Shirt system from Fresh Air Systems Technologies (F.A.S.T.)
This is a bunch of small water tubes sewn into a stout T shirt. Those tubes connect to a lil cold chest, circulates cold water thru the T shirt system.
Nice workmanship!
I'd like to get input from people who have used this system.
Specifically do you purge water out of the system before a run?
If so, how? Their style of dry break fittings aren't easy to find, and before going to F.A.S.T. I thought I'd ask youse guys.
Any tips for using this system?

Right of the top of my head - the first that comes to mind is Rick Yacoucci. I've seen him in his Cool Shirt lots of times at the line, maybe in the pits. He's "TurboRick" here on the Forum.
I know lots of other guys (girls?) wear the CoolShirt or a variation thereof, of course. I just don't know any other names right off.

yes indeed we have made the stretch: 16" of new legroom + 6" in engine bay = 22". Don is working his TFA off!

The cool shirt is great.
We rob ice water off the ice tank for the after cooler. I only use it when sitting in line waiting to go.
I purge it just to make sure its working properly.

I do in fact use one and I swear by it, especially when belted in and waiting to run.
I purchased the Bag system and just let it lay behind my seat. You could carry it on your lap for that matter, it is soft and the size of a ladies handbag (like Stainless caries). The worst that could happen is it slaps you in the face shield in a rollover.
Between that and my helmet cooler, I am (in fact) "one cool dude". One run, out................................ :mrgreen: 8-) :roll:

Pretty much everyone in our pits use a cool shirt and all 3 of our cars are set up for it. We pretty much never run without it.
On the liner we use a portable ice chest/battery setup since there is no room in the car. It is disconnected just before the run when the canopy goes on.
On the roadster we use the intercooler ice water tank for the source.
On the pickup we have the cool suit ice chest mounted in the bed.
I have never purged the system and it has always seemed to work fine.

Are the ones without pumps you keep in the cooler till you suit up useful at Bonneville ?

I tried the Sparco Ice Nomex shirt and pants, it was kinda better but nothing like ice water. I also tried the cool can, took to many cans of coolant.

Use the Cool Shirt brand w/ Ice chest. Probably good for a 1/2 or 1 hour track session - not for a long trip cross country. Should work fine on the salt if you find room for the ice chest.

We now have good direction.
External cooler, disconnect just before belt tightening, leave cool water in shirt on pass.

Your Welcome Karl.
Karl make your lines long enough you can stand up in the car. The first couple of times I got out of the car I forgot to uncouple them. And for safety reasons I don't use hose clamps on the cooler hoses to the shirt. (You don't want anything stopping you if you need to get out in a Hurry)

Thanks much, this is exactly the kind of advice I love to receive.
The stuff that is so simple, 99% of people say:
"sheesh, that's common sense;
obviously the lines have to be long enough to exit,
who would be so dumb as to make them short?"
But karl would probably make them short just to be tidy.
