Title: A question related to advertising . . .
Post by: tallguy on November 17, 2013, 05:21:13 PM
Is it permissible to recommend a vendor, such as a machine shop
from which I have had great service and results?

I've done it a dozen times - and slagged the other 150 vendors who simply don't follow through with my expectations.  :-D

It's probably a shorter list of recommended vendors that those who pizz you off . . .

I suppose you'd like something from the head handlebar holder, right?  As to your question -- MM's got it about right.  Go ahead and tell everyone when you find a vendor that's doing a good job.  All too often we don't know of the good ones -- just the crummy b*sta*ds that promise, promise, promise -- and still don't deliver.  As a favor to that vendor, of course -- don't tell all of the details like price and other specifics.  The guy has to keep his business a business, meaning he's got to make a buck now and then.  But if his pricing is good -- sure, tell us that it's good.  And so on.  If you tell us twenty-seven times in a row about the shop -- well, maybe you ought to inquire about advertising rates here.  But as an occasional mention -- go ahead. :-)

Tallguy, it would be nice if we knew a  little more about you, your racing back ground ,where you live etc.

You gotta remember that what you say can be retrieved by anyone who Googles the vendor's name.  Sometimes it is best to misspell that name enough so we know who you are talking about and it is less visible during a search.  Example, "American Air limes margaritas give me the runs."

I'm Tallguy, a manufacturing/mechanical engineer in Northern California,
not far from San Jose (home of the Ack Attack motorcycle streamliner).

I haven't done any landspeed racing, but have been a fan for decades,
and have been to Bonneville 3 times.  I have done a small bit of
drag racing, years ago (two motorcycles, one car).

I'm 63 years old.  My background is in metal fab.  Since 1975 I have
worked for more than 12 companies, all manufacturers of metal products.
My knowledge of welding, machining, general metal fab and metallurgy is
(ahem) pretty substantial.

I have recently had some business with a machine shop in Redwood City,
California (in the San Francisco Bay area).  They specialize in challenging
machining projects that require very tight tolerances.  In fact, they
aren't competitive, price-wise, for more common machining that most
machine shops can do.  If you need something machined that has to be
done extremely precisely, I highly recommend this shop.  Yes, it costs
money for these results.  But they don't ship junk.  Ever.  The name
of the company is Robertson Precision, Inc.
