Title: USFRA Cancelled, i.e., World Of Speed is a STOP
Post by: fastesthonda_jim on September 04, 2013, 02:46:10 PM
Apparently the meeting time was (unknown to the USFRA folks at the time) already scheduled for the National Airboat Association meet.
And also apparently they have a Hot Line to God, because they have called up enough water to flood the venue so their meet can come off.
Unfortunately the USFRA rule forbidding windshield wipers prevents any of us salt racers from competing at the same time in their event.
Cook will visit the salt this coming Monday to determine if the Chute Out will still happen.

(Now where did I put my cheap Whiskey?)

I heard from someone that seen the salt a few hours ago that there is currently 3" of water on the salt near lands end.

Rob, the water  is always deeper at lands end. Virtually everyone who goes on or comes off the Salt passes through there and it gets pretty beat up. Hang in there.  Cook will be there in the morning. Wayno

Mike Cook arrived at the salt today reports international course is wet but there are 3 days to dry before the event starts and he may be able to extend the dates if need be. We are committed to going as are a number of other entries.  A lot will depend on wether we get any more rain between now and Friday. Friday on looks good.

Is 3" the best someone can muster?
Update...
Let not your heart be troubled.
At W/F a few years back; I'm thinking '04 or '05, we forded 1/4 to 1/2 mile of 6'' deep.
the racing was great!
Regards,
Jim

Lands End is the lowest part of the basin.

That end is wet when no other part of it is.

I'm thinking that Land's End is pretty low, and that the "standard" SW/WOS/WF race course(s) are near the top of the "mountain" on the salt flats.
The problem is the International Course runs for 3 1/2 to 4 miles though some "low lands" before it gets to the higher ground of the "standard" course area.  And when it's particularly wet, as it was at SW this year, even the "standard" course gets moved an additional mile to the north meaning that the IC will run almost to the timing traps in "the wet".
Remember that SW/WOS/WF use a five mile course with highest speeds generally in the fifth mile.  The IC OTOH uses a six mile course (11 total actually) timed only in the sixth mile both northbound and southbound.  This means its timing trap is about between the 1 and the 2 mile marker on this year's #2 SW course.  Pretty darn good actually for your Southbound run, but rather a handful going Northbound.
But I'm confident in Mike's religious connections.  The overall pious life he leads, along with his frequent visits to the confessional will...

Oh never mind.

Mike is at the salt this morning reports no water on the international course from the 0 to the 5 1/5 to 6 white salt all the way. From the 6 to floating mountain wet about 1/2 of water.  Yesterday 0 to 6 under water. No water on the Speed Week courses yesterday they were under water.  30% chance Wednsday and Thursday if no significant rain those days the rest of the event looks pretty good weather wise.
