I figure that since motorcycle LSR was so much fun, a lil 1.5-2.0L lakester would be even "funner".

I will be at Speedweek to clutter up the pits of Ryan Ostergard & Jennifer Robertson (Rye-rye now owns my former bike, "Rustbucket" MPS/F 1650 2012 record).
However, my partner Don and I are also keenly interested in meeting folks who want to gab about (or even sell) a lil turbo Lakester.

Any tips or introductions would be much appreciated!!! :cheers:

Better find one that fits a busa motor Karl
at least you will have interchangability on existing parts and experiance

What would be really cool is build one from scratch and put in one of those Mini V 8's

The name escapes me now but a shop the the N.E. makes his own bottom ends and puts on Busa banks for a little hi RPM V 8

That would make a great lower class motor for your lakester and would it ever sound good too

2 hiding in 4 is what we've done for the last 28 or 29 years... too old to do the math at this time of night  :roll:

Thanks for the thoughts.

This Project was recently proposed by my Houston pal, Don Davila, and it immediately rang my bell.
Wifey is now "trauma-center adverse", but she 100% onboard, especially since we are aiming at Bonneville.

Although i have had pretty good success with Busa-based 1635 (Thanks to Bob Carpenter!!!!), i'd prefer to learn a new engine.
Perhaps a 2.0L Ecotec?

Yes indeed, Bob Hartley builds Busa-based v-8's (2.6L+) in Wisconsin.  
A couple years ago, we were in contact about my urgent need for custom intake stacks. Experiment = OS TB's on 1635.
On a Sat he asked when i needed them, and i joked "Mon".
He went into his shop on Sun, i had a set of one-off stacks on Tues morning.

Bob is a purely awesome guy, and that motor series is a marvel!!!!!
His v-8's do sound GREAT, but I'd like to play with a moderate boost turbo.

Check out the Kawasaki 275LX (or whatever those are called).  Big strong bottom end, in a marine block with ZX type head.  Comes with fuel injection and a supercharger.  It is already a 1500 and room for more.

I met one of the endurance race guys who told me they block the supercharger relief valve, put in Subaru fuel injectors, and tweak the timing.  He said they make 400+ for 3-6 hour events.

He said there's a lot of repos out there that folks quit making payments, after wasting the hull on a rock.  I saw the inside of one of these engines, and thought the crank and mains looked really stout (i guess it has to be when these things are skipping wave-to-wave at full throttle).  The tricky part will be the flywheel attachment in place of the jet pump connector.  Anyway, it sure eliminates the motorcycle trans issues for running something heavy.

This makes me wonder what the turbo-Honda watercraft engine looks like inside?  I think its not as big as the Kawasaki, however.

Fun stuff to brainstorm,

Think if i went 4 wheels it would be something like the 1JZ gte Toyota
lots of mumbo to start with and no shortage of hi performance gear to upgrade

or something different like a new generation commonrail diesel and boost the hell out of it

It is indeed a bunch of fun cogitating on motors.
And it is fun building / tuning / upgrading motors.

One thing I learned from my 401K-draining LSR motorcycle experience: 
No matter what brilliant, earth shattering idea one comes up with, someone out there in google-land has already done it,
AND, unless they are a grudge racer, they are proud as hell and dying to tell someone about it.

I am in "listening mode" at this point.

You might want to talk to Blaine (head of tech.) at the text Mojave event.  He helped build a '32 roadster with a motorcycle engine for salt flats racing.  He even held the record for H/STR - for 24 hours!  He was doing a tuning run and broke the existing record.  After the Baline's tuneup the regular driver took it out the next day and broke Blaine's record. Look up car 3245 at Bonneville.

For a low cost G motor, the old MR2 Turbo engine was actually 4 cylinder off the 2JZ Turbo (actually, the 4 cyl came first).  We ran one on stock cams, stock head, stock manifolds, and modified stock turbo.  Its best was 186 in a mod-roadster.  The engine is leaned to the right, and the V6 tacoma bell housing bolts on, making trans adapting easy to line up.  Its an iron block with a forged crank and rods.  These were built to be a turbo motor from the get-go, with the turbo oil feeds, piston oilers, block ribbing...already in place.  Kinda heavy, though, and handles the same size clutch as the trucks.

If you can find a Celica All-Trac ECU, I can post a pic of which two pins to jumper on the back of the circuit board.  That trick enables an 8000rpm rev limit, no speed signal needed, and built in program for 18+ boost with Supra Twin-Turbo injectors.  This does NOT work on an MR2 ecu because they were not used for World Rally.

You can spend more money on it and be as fast as the Aase brothers MR2, if your ship ever comes in.

Still waiting on mine...

If I was building a real "no holds bared" H class lakester I would take a big look at the engine in the HONDATA CRX. I have attached their official record info from the SCTA results page.  238+ mph from a Honda CRX takes impressive power.
