Title: Throttle Pedal pics/ideas???
Post by: SteveM on June 19, 2013, 12:01:56 PM
What kind of throttle pedal setups are you guys using?  I'll be using an OEM cable, but probably can't use the OEM pedal setup.

Any pics or descriptions would be appreciated.

Steve.

Steve;

My pedals are probably not applicable to your application but I'll post a picture anyway, just to give someone an idea of how pedals could be fabricated. BTW, the toe hook on the gas pedal is not installed yet.

These are made of welded steel tubing and sheet. The support and pivot bearings are oddball surplus (naturally) aluminum pieces that are bolted to an aluminum plate. This whole thing is then riveted to an aluminum sheet that forms a heel support over the stressed aluminum panel on the bottom of my steel tube chassis.

Nope, that's nickel-silver braze welding, Sid. Tensile strength of 85,000psi-- twice the strength of mild steel. But using a torch is old school, now that I think about it.  :-)

Thanks for the pics, guys.  The wording in the rulebook that had me wondering is the part about "Accelerator pedal toe straps are required except on OEM cable or hydraulic throttles".

Neither of the pics that you posted indicate any kind of toe strap.  If the toe strap is not needed, I have plenty of options.

Yep, Toe return straps don't work with cable (unless it is a push/pull set up) or hydralic set up, only linkage type. Double return springs at the carb, throttle body, injector pump what have you. All so incorporate a "throttle" stop to keep the throttle shaft from going over center.

Thanks for getting my mind back on track.  You are correct, you can't expect to "push on a rope".

Steve, have you ever looked at Sumners site? He was more active here a few years back and his site is/was a great resource. He has some coqpit shots that may be helpfull.
