Title: Speed Reader - Amy's '91 Camaro C/GALT
Post by: Captthundarr on May 25, 2013, 10:12:16 AM
Well we have been building on this thing for over a year and decided to post a build thread so y'all could see what we got and where we are going. I have learned quite alot for this forum and thank all of you for contributing to my education. I have always dreamed of having/building some sort of race car and particapating in said activity but poor dicisions as a youth and life in greneral kept me pointing in the wrong direction.

After a couple of attempts at marriage  and 10 yrs. in a rock band+a day job my two true loves came together. Amy and LSR. As we have no children we have the time to travel around and experiance life and the this great country. With that being said, on one weekend about 6yrs ago I started looking the internet for something to do or somewhere to go and I came across the ECTA at Maxton. As I was interested in Landspeed racing since I was a kid I suggested to Amy that we go and check it out.

Amy is from Buffalo,NY, so showing her around my home state of NC was a good thing. So off to Maxton we go. I think it took me about 3 nano seconds to decide that this is something I wanted/needed to take part in. Although I didn't realize it at the time Amy got the bug as well. We spent a saturday at the monster mile and when I convinced Amy that it was time to head home I soon realize that she was quite mad. She didn't want to leave! I have created a monster and a race partner, thats cool.

We got a rule book, joined the ECTA and it was on. We started our learning curve running her stock "Little Red Kia", and thats right SHE is the driver. My time will come.

The Kia got killed by a Silverado and the "real" race car build would begin...

Here is what we started with, '91 Camaro Rs street thing that some guy ran in a local club of some sort.

Just a little reasoning for the name. Amy is a school teacher with her masters in reading education. She prefers to teach the little ones K thru 5th. Shame some of them thar smarts won't rub off on me. :-P

Frank and Amy,

Glad you FINALLY started this build diary!  :-D
Over the years, it's been really fun watching you guys stepping it up and having fun in the process.
From the KIA at Maxton (if I remember correctly 100-105 range) to this Camaro in Wilmington at 137.
Amy's doing a GREAT job driving and your doing a GREAT job tuning. Now comes more HP ad higher speeds and you guys WILL get there.
Like you've told me several times, if you need help from me I'm only 2 1/2 hrs away.

Gregg

Thanks for the offer Gregg. Ya, the Kia was an experiment in putting areo on a brick see'in as how there was nothing I could do to bump the HP except a cold air kit I put together. There are no "High po" parts for a kia spectra. Top speed was 116.xx with a gracious tail wind. :-D

Went through the rear end and installed new axles, bearings, studs and c-clip eliminators. It has 7 5/8" ring gear and 3.08 ratio.not concerned with the strenght yet as we aint hitting it with a bunch horsepower. When we start getting up there in HP we will install a "metric" 9".

SInce T-tops are a pain in the arse for these type of cars with having to install hold down tabs or straps and installing a cage in the "vast expanse" of the interior is no fun, the roof had to go. Finding a coupe roof was not as easy as I thought. As it would turn out, I must have been living right, as a junk yard not 5 min. from the house had one with my name on it.

Title: Re: Speed Reader - Amy's '91 Camaro C/GALT
Post by: Captthundarr on May 27, 2013, 10:35:37 PM
While laying out the roll cage base design I installed subframe connectors. These are fully welded and tied into the trans mount subframe stubs. We also wanted to get the "legs" of the cage as close to the rockers as possible. I was not happy with the idea trying to bend plate steel to the convoluted shape of the rocker side and floor then welding it to the thin floor sheet metal. To that end Inoyched the inne wall of the rockers along with the floor to the subframe connectors. I then welded a section of 1.5 x 3.5 x .120 wall tubing to the rocker, floor and subframe connector. I did this front and rear for the 4 main legs.

Cage stuff...
The rear down bars and cross bars mount to a 2"x4"x.120 wall that runs the width of the rear and welded to the subframe. where the bars are connected is directly over the subframe.

This project severs a couple of purposes
1. learn the fine art of landspeed racing
2. Get Amy to her personal goal.
3. Do the above as inexpensively as possible while maintaining a high level of safety and reliability.

As far as inexpensive goes, the engine in this beast is a barter piece. My "son" needed some help swapping the chassis on his 72 chevy short bed pick-up. The engine in it seemed fresh and the "new" chassis had an engine in it he wanted to keep soooo, we swapped my drive way and teaching abilities for the "old" engine. I only made a few improvements to the engine to give it a little more grunt. After doing a little research on the thing I found that it is a create replacement 260hp made in mexico, yep mexico.

Thanks Frankie, We are going to see just what we can get out of this little burito before it pops its' top. I'll report on this years updates in some later posts.

Frank.
Title: Re: Speed Reader - Amy's '91 Camaro C/GALT
Post by: Captthundarr on June 02, 2013, 09:10:13 PM
Last year we ran the little burito with some minor improvements, the flex plate was major poo, needed a SFI unit anyway. Added a torker II intake and a 650 Holley, MSD distributer and 6aL box and a set of long tube headers. I knew the engine ran well before we got it and I was in a hurry as April was coming on fast and we were determined to make the first race at the new venue. Amy did great and the car did well, 137.66 in the mile. The car had overheating issues, I would get those sorted out this year.

Thanks Junkie, I did'nt post during the build as I thought it was a bit mundane, Gen3 camaro with a nothing to hoot about small block. The years I spent reading and learning on this forum made the build , to date, quite straight forward. The real challenge starts this year. We have a 5 year plan to get Amy to her goal of 200mph in the mile. She wants to be the fastest elimentary school teacher in the east. Last year was about getting her use to a car that aint got no A/C,radio, Pow'r winders, reclining bucket seats ect. The new environment was a 20 deg Kirkey containment seat, full cage, ratchet shifter, all of the safety gear and proceedures. This year the goal is to polish her skills, get her next license level, C, and run 150.0 as that is all the tires are rated to. On ward and up ward.

Frank.

Just a note on the method of our maddness. We could kill a creditcard and buy a used NASCAR engine and trans and meet Amy's goal in short order, But what have I/we learned along the way. :-)

This is what the camaro looked like in Jan. '11. 3 months before the first race at Ohio in April. Southeast NC just don't get snow, period. We had 5 snow events that "winter". This winter I think it got cold (below 40deg) for about a week total.

Yikes on the flexplate. Definitely worth the investment to get an SFI rated one. The two drag cars I ran ( the dragster in my avatar and my altered ) both required an SFI flexplate and flexplate shield. Not sure if you have room in the Camaro but it wouldnt hurt to look into a flexplate shield as well Frank. ( well itll hurt the checkbook a little  :-) )

Frankie, ya roger that on the SFI plate. We also installed a flexplate shield and a trans blanket. Don't need any drive line bits pizzing Amy off as she is an Irish redhead w/green eyes. I beefed up the drive line to the rear axle. With the front drive shaft loop, had a 3 1/2" drive shaft made and we are installing a rear loop as well. Lesson learned from someone that 'bout had the floor pan in thier car beat to pieces at the salt.

Since we have established how benign redheads are...
The trans we are using is a Th350 short tail shaft. It was built by Cooks racing Transmissions in Chesnee S. C. about 17 years ago and only had about 500 miles on it. I installed a reverse pattern valve body and it seems to have held up well in storage.
Who'd a thunk it.

The complex curves had me use the thin (1/16") plastic from Allstar Perf.

May I suggest a set of turbos to "liven" things up for Amy a bit? :-)

Thanks Redhot. Back to the transmission thingy. We'll run the auto until it can't take no more. One thing that I have asked about a few years back and got mixed replies. Torque Converters, I talked to manufacturers and they reply with: match it to the cam. They lean towards the drag race reply. Other folks say get as low a stall converter as you can. Anybody got any input on what dirction to go. As we build HP and Amys skills increase we will be looking towards using a coupler and giving her a push or a manual trans. Just need some input to ease my worried brow. :? I welcome any advice.

I have heard of running "towing" converters which are fairly tight..

another option: no torque converter and run a GV with the free wheel option---I just push off and jerk it into gear.  Run a stock valve body also, With no tc multiplier  I have had no friction disk problemos

Thanks for the input Sparky. We currently have, I guess it would be called a towing converter. 1800-2000 rpm stall. Going to be looking for someting different next year to try to get rid of some parasitic hp loss.

Lock-up converter?  Maybe that's an option...

(Been 10+ years since I've hot-rodded anything w/4 wheels so I'm rusty with that but it's what came to mind...)

By buddy Tom Sarda (co-founder of the ECTA) usually has some used Jerico
RR-4 transmissions in stock. As NASCAR transitions into newer gear, this stuff
can be available for a reasonable price. He builds & maintains the stuff for a
few teams, so his junk is GOOD. The parasitic loss is minimal, clutches can be
had for cheap and you can bang shift them to kingdom come!

Thanks Luke for the lead. that set-up is way out of our budget for a while. Right now the current experiment is to see what we can achieve on the supercheap. (read free or found monies, parts, tax refunds, gifts, beg or barrow). Amy can row the gears and I have a toploader begging to be stuffed into some thing. It might find its way into the camaro next year. 8-)

That Toploader would be great, and will get you HP=MPH on the top end. Shifting w/o
the clutch gained a few MPH for me as well, surely there's a website that will give you
the optimal RPM to bang-shift a Toploader?

Frankie, our next build was going to be REMR but after inventorying parts on hand and remembering that I have a '63 Triumph Spitfire (complete less eng.) in storage I think we will go with Modified Sport as there are a lot of open records in that one in the mile as well. :-D

Yep Luke there is a sweet spot on the TL's to "bang da gears". I might have to start scrounging parts. Another improvement for next year will be swapping out the 3.08 rear gears for 2.73.

Be aware of a couple things . . .

There are over 20 RMRs entered a SpeedWeek this year -- some looking at the open records.

And El Mirage has some stiff, but fair, minimums in every open class.

Stan, Frank never really mentioned anything about RMRs and the open records I did. RMRs is the class Im considering building a car for. I had never even really paid the class much attention until Sparky mentioned something about them one afternoon at his place. Ill have a better idea if Im even going to build a LSR car at all after the July meet in El Mirage. Itll be the first time that my wife and I attend an LSR event. Im sure Ill like it but I dont know if she will be ok with all the dust, dirt and wind. Not that a drag strip is much better. She always supported my drag racing and was the one person I counted on at the track. It was our thing to do together. If she doesnt like LSR than I doubt Ill even build a car. I wont go LSR without her support and blessing. Ill continue helping Sparky finish up his car and go to the races with him. RMR looks like a neat class and it puts my two favorite cars together in one package. Only time will tell what happens.

Sorry for the thread hijack Capt'n  :-)

Here we are in Ohio at the July '12 meet. We first ran the car at the April meet when it was ugly cold and wet. the july meet was brutely hot. Our best speed with the burito motor with little to no tuning was 137.66. That year was Amys first time in a purpose built car. not too shaby. I;ll be posting this years up grades next. Side shot for Tony. The car is still a little high with 1.5" lowering springs. Thinking about whacking one round out of them to get it lower but don't want to screw up the alignment because as Amy puts it it drives like it's on rails and the factory camber adj is about maxed to get it to zero.

Remembering that I have a '63 Triumph Spitfire (complete less eng.) in storage I think we will go with Modified Sport as there are a lot of open records in that one in the mile as well. :-D

This is really too funny, Frank!
You have a Spitfire and I have a 72 GT6.....We both like LSR but we have built/are building something else.  :?
I really thought about MS for my GT6 but I didn't have the heart to cut it up for LSR. After my Rampage is finished, I'm getting back to the GT6 with an engine, trans and rear end swap (already have all the parts) for a fun street ride.  :-D
Now all I need to do is finish the Rampage and here I am in Wilmington, OH.
Oh well, life is GOOD!.....LOL!

Yep Luke there is a sweet spot on the TL's to "bang da gears". I might have to start scrounging parts. Another improvement for next year will be swapping out the 3.08 rear gears for 2.73.

Frank.

2.73's are great for top end, but make sure you
have the HP to push it. We put the 2.50's in the
Camaro with the expectation of Bonneville and
lost MPH in the mile... Would have hit 200+ at
Maxton with a 2.73 or 3.00, only got 196.xxx :(

2012 we had overheating problems. 1. water pump wired backwards at the factory, no shite. no really. and the stock radiatorwas not up to task. We replaced it with a double pass 2 core. man that thing holds a lot.

Made some brackets as none of the stock stuff would work.

The stock steering column was in need of replacement. The tilt mechanism started to fall apart. Real race cars aint got no tilt streeing. So picked up a new column from Trent. pretty nice for the price. Being one that will repurpose parts as oposed to buying stuff the old column was about to become a fire wall mount for the new column.

Title: Re: Speed Reader - Amy's '91 Camaro C/GALT
Post by: Captthundarr on June 12, 2013, 05:07:54 PM
The old column firewall mount was a conveniant tidbit to use to monut the new column. After wacking the tube and a little drimel work on the lower bushing, it held the new columnat the needed angle and there were no more problems trying to seal the hole.

More streering column. Made the upper mount and viola a new solid steering column to keep Amy pointed in the right direction. total 3 hours fab time including smoke breaks.

In addition to the new column I took out the power steering box after convincing Amy that she could steer it just fine with a manual box. A clean and tight fleabay purchase did trick. aslo gained a few more ponies as well.

Thanks Trent, the parts are spot on. Heres a few pic's of some other things we did "just because".

Whipped up a new gas pedal as the old stock one was getting loose. finally added some inner door panel to clean it up and reduce the risk of Amy getting hung up on something while getting out of the car.

Heres the little burito 350 after we took it out of the car this past winter. Basically all we did to run last year was put a new intake, carb and MSD ignition on it. The engine is a barter piece from a buddy of mine. It seemed to have low street mile on it. It ran well enough and got the car to 137 and change on our first time out. the spec's on it are as follows

approx. 290hp @ 5100rpm, we ran up to 6000rpm just because.
approx. 326 ft/lb torque @ 3750 rpm. ok
max recommended rpm - 5100rpm, ok
comp. ratio: 8.5:1
Heads: cast iron, 76cc -1.94 intake/1.5 exh.
Cam lift: .450 in. /.460 exh.. check it, it was real close.
Flat tappet Duration: @.050" 222*int / 222* exh.
Conn. rods powdered metal
Block: 4 bolt main, 2 pc. rear seal
crank: cast iron, nodular, 3.480" stroke
Rocker arms : 1.5 stamped steel
Timing: 34*BTDC total advance, increased to 36*

Amy put 10 passes on it at the drag strip to get use to the car. She ran it to 6000rpm on all passes.

She made a total of 8 passes at the April,2012 meet running it to 6000rpm. no problems.

Frank, love the bead rolled door panels.

Looking at the burrito specs from an ex-counterman from a speed shops perspective, there are so many little things that could be done to pep it up. I also know about budgets as I ran my drag cars on dental floss budgets and itll be no different with LSR.

Im enjoying the reading.

Pictures are a great way to know when building and tear downs. It's a great refresher. Every little bracket should be photografted
and kept with the build book, the log book is for running the vehicle and taking notes when running. I used to make a template for 90% of the parts I made and they went with the car when sold. They can be numbered and cataloged. You wont be soory down the road when something is broken or needs to be modified etc.

After getting the engine mostly apart I noticed some "mud" oozing around in the block. It would appear that the truck this came out of had a radiator leak. I flushed 2 and a half buckets of good old stop leak gunk out of it. No wonder it ran a bit hot.

A pile of parts going away and a pile installed. Got rid of the wizzer heads, cam intake, ect. keeping the rotating assem. for this year ($). Next years plan is to replace the raotating assem. with a little more performance oriented bits. I haven't decided on just what parts or "kit" yet.

After a healthy cleaning wrenches started to fly. The motor held 58 to 60 lbs. oil pressure at idle at temp. Knowing that I thought it in my best interest not to yank the main or rod caps. Please note: Murphys law does not apply to me. He lives in my house, eats my food, drinks ALL my beer. Hence I saw no reason to tempt Mr. Murphy by pulling the caps. I did, however, replace the main bolts with an ARP main stud kit with the hopes of adding a little strenght and installed a windage tray because the catalog said it would free up HP. :-D

Yep Sparky, picking up bits and pieces of nascar stuff as I can. Most will be used when it's time for the little burrito motor to go away and be replaced with something a little more substantial when she can no longer provide the umph needed to get to the next level. I haven't built a motor in over 30+ years so, instead of picking parts here and there and hoping things work we went the "kit" route. We picked up an Edelbrock top end kit. they are "matched" parts that are suposed to produce 435hp on a mild 350. Since the burrito has 8.5:1 comp. the hp numbers will not be quit that. Maybe next year with the rotating assembly up grade the hp numbers should up there.

The heads in this kit are Edelbrock performer E-Tec 170's. specs are as follows

170cc intake ports
70cc exh
64cc chambers
1.46" springs, .575" max lift roller cam
assembled with screw in rocker studs and guide plates
These should do for now. When it time yo up grade these will find a new home in another project. If I don't destroy them first. :-o
Title: Re: Speed Reader - Amy's '91 Camaro C/GALT
Post by: wheelrdealer on June 14, 2013, 09:59:49 PM
Frank, that is a good starting point. I would rather race than replace parts and constantly tune a temperamental race car. I went 167 at Maxton with a pretty mild D motor with a tunnel ram. Just fueled it up every third run. Had a blast. The second trip I "got smart" and changed a bunch of stuff looking for 175. Worked on the car more than I raced and then it only ran 166.

The intake is an Edelbrock RPM air gap vortec. We will more than likely change it to a victor intake next year with the other up grades.

cam specs:

.539/.548 lift. 296*/ 300* avd. dur. I got an edumacation on checking and re-checking with the degree wheel. I do believe I got pretty good with the device.

Add 1.5 roller rockers, 1 3/4" Dougs long tube headers, 750 carb. Stud girdles and bits and pieces.

Thanks BR. Reliability and HP gain is our current modus op. Get Amy going a little faster each meet then pick brains, ask questions then make improvements for the next meet. I do realize that to achieve our ultimate goal we will have to go BIG at some point but we are still in the learning curve. Local resources are slim to none. Tuners, bikes, roundy rounders and about 80,000 U.S. Marines so I relie on this forum for info and guidance. Tadaa. Motor is in. 1 3/4" headers went in easier than I thought. If I could have gotten the car up about 3' they would have been a breeze. I hate crawling around on driveway concrete, getting too old for that. Now to scratch up some dyno cash to see what we have.

Since my carb tuning skills are most good for the street I decided that a little modern tech was in order to try to get the most out of what we have. Found this neat litle A/F ratio meterthat will interface with a master data logger. As a stand alone unit it has programmable features and records ratios by event, lap or time. This ought to help when we get the beast to the dyno.

Then he got all grode up and discovered girls, cars and motorcycles, the down fall of every man. Cleaned the car up and painted the inside to help keep it a little cooler and easier to clean. heading to the drag strip tomorrow afternoon so Amy can get some seat time with the new shifter and engine combo. Gregg, Half the Rampage brothers, is coming down for a visit to witness the fun.

Looking good Frank.....I think you guys will be happier with the light interior color.
To bad about the rainout yesterday.....I was REALLY looking forward to the visit.
Let me know when y'all are planning another trip to the dragstrip and I'll come down.

Well after a rain delay or two we finally got the car to the drag strip for some shake down runs. I ran it first, crash test dummy I guess. It ran smooth and straight with no surprises and the breaks are true and tight. Amy ran it twice, back to back, without coming back to the pits. The track is lit but as the sun sets the track requires "a tail light" to run. Ain't got no working tail lights. :? Learned a few things. 1. The carb is a wee bit lean. The A/F meter I installed read 18:1 on the top end (1/4 mile) according to Amy. Me thinks me needs to fatten it up a bit.
2. New manual steering is nice and tight with no slop, Thanks for the parts hook up T-man.
3. Got a scrubbing noise under neith. Gotta hunt that down.
4. The new shifter seemed to do the job, will double check everything anyway.

All in all it was time well spent. Amy is in Buffalo, NY to see family and Anchor bar wings, yum.

We will most likely hit the drag strip a couple more times before the meet in Ohio in September.

We did another test and tune at the drag strip this past friday and were overall pleased. I made some jet changes since the last trip to the strip as the little burrito was running way lean. Amy needed some seat time as she was having some issues with the new shifter. After I informed her that she wasn't going to break the shifter and to treat it like her ex-husbands nut sack her shifting improved greatly. :) We got 5 runs in before the weather started pizzing rain at 9pm, time for food any way.

Amy ran a best of 98.3 mph at 15.2 in the 1/4 mile. Not too bad considering we have 3.08 gears and a TH350 slush box. Oh and Amy aint no drag racer.

One thing that is obvious to us is that a 1500 stall torque converter is too tight for for the new engine combo. Gotta get a new one in the 2500-2700 range.

Frank

Another good trip to the drag strip. The new torque converter really did the trick. The car launches well without Amy having to do excessive leg work outs to hold the car on the line. It looks like about everything is done except for some minor tuning and cashing in cans and bottles for hotel and food money.  With some luck Amy will get her "C" license and I will have new goals for next year.

A couple of tangential notes:  "C" isn't better than "D" for many female attributes, but in race competition licensing -- it is better.

Stan, remember that "golf" spelled backwards is "flog".  Take that for what it's worth.

As for Gregg (whose real name is Gerry, no matter what he says) - he's now due to stop by at Milwaukee Midget's house today for a visit to the home of the #996 car and to get the afore-mentioned audio streaming gear for WoS.  Yee-hah, I think this is gonna be great.

Got to break her of letting off  before the line as she didn't want to go over 150.

Had a good trip to wilmington. Amy ran 155, 158 then 159.34 and we changed classes and the new AA/GALT record. Last year we did 144.00. Amazing what happens when you put the car on a dyno and find 100hp. Properly adjusted rockers on cyl. #5 helps. Also Hepled get Angela Brenner her licensing passes and she topped out at 159.02. I recon the car is consistant. sunday was a wash. Timing lights took a poo the the rain came.
More hoursepower and areo on tap for next year. headed to 175.00

Chages will include dropping in Mikes 383, rerouting the headers for ground clearance, air dam work and some more suspension work to get in the weeds. Hi all still here hovering on everyones builds, commenting when I have something half way intelligent to add. Everyone knows the drill, work /life then racing. The weather finally cleared and warmed up and I've been working on the car when daylight permits. Lots of changes this year to help get the girls to our new goals. We are still working with Mike Maty and Angela Brenne this year. Planning on dropping Mikes 383 in the camaro for some hp infusion. We will be running gas and fuel (nitros). Top speeds and records are great but we are getting into speeds that the Amy and Angela aren't use to so seat time is the rule for our first meet in june at the mile. I'll be  adding more Posts with pics soon.

I agree with Joe. If you replace the brake rotors, avoid those with slots, holes, etc.- they generate cracks from heat expansion. The most effective rotors are just good vented cast iron.

With the car lowered the headers would be scrapping the concrete,  not good. Picked up some Schoenfeld street stock headers mounted them backwards ans hacked them up. Nothing better than taking a sawsall to new headers. The exhaust will exit out the fenders in front of the tires.

Frank;

I'm using Shoenfeld headers,too- their sprint car version.

Just one thing to think about-- in SCCA road racing those header exits wouldn't be allowed. They require the exhausts to exit behind the driver to prevent his being asphyxiated. You'll need lots of fresh air to keep yourself from getting woozy or getting a headache.

Neil, its good that Amy and Angela aren't road racing. There is a 2.5 inch duct that provides fresh air. It picks up air from an opening above the air dam.

Bitchin' Frank! I like it. I'm just a little jealous that your "shop" is warmer than mine right now.

Thanks Joe, the rain does slow things down a bit. Heat and cold I can work in. Snow and rain not so much :-D

Last year we had 2 ladies, one car and one seat. Worked ok but Angela Brenner is a little smaller than Amy. Angelas driving position is about 5 inches closer to the wheel and pedals than Amy so that required moving the seat and installing additional brackets and a mid back support. All that was fine but Angela was still a bit loose in the seat, no pun intended. Mike Matyjasik got Angela a 15 inch wide seat that snugs her up nicely. Taking another seat to the track and swapping them is not what I like to do during my down time between runs but it makes for some interesting compettion between the ladies. Which one gets top speed and sorting who may get a record. The true goal of all this is to get them track time at speed (hope 175ish) and practice with releasing a chute. Pics of race seats ain't no fun so there aren't any.

There would be more room to work in the garage if the car were smaller.

I like the exhaust solution, Frank.

Post up some numbers when you get back from the dyno.

Been battling my biannual head/chest/sinus cold thing for about a week so I haven't felt like posting any thing let alone work on the car. I think I have finally died so I can get on with thing. Big thanks to Steve Ashworth Race Engines for the use of the chassis dyno. Me and Mike Matyjasik strapped Amy camaro and let the dust fly. When it was all said and done we had 424hp and 402 lb-ft to the rear wheels. With 27" tires and 308 gear in the gen 3 bod this should get the girls to our current goal of 175mph and their "B" licenses.

Top is this year. Bottom is last. Seems every time we go up there we gain 100 hp.....

Awesome Frank! I don't know much about a dyno, but the curves look the same. There's just a lot more of it this year!

Frank-

Those numbers should definitely get them around 175. IIRC, we went mid-160s at Maxton
with less power and aero than you have now. Can't wait for a couple of B licenses!!!

About 1000 RPM where it doesn't drop below 400 - That's impressive, Frank, and the improvements over the last go, even more so.

While you're shooting for those B licenses, you might as well fill out the paperwork for pilot's licenses!

Hit the drag strip last night for some shake down runs and to run the new brakes in. Everything went well, Man that motor pulls. Big thanks to Mike Matyjasik and Angela Brenner for the motor. It is the "old" 383 out of their Time Bomb camaro. Sure got some funny looks from folks at the track. I had to explain that the car ain't quick... It's FAST! The local constabulary froun on my texting on the local roads :x :-D

Curious as to what kind of speed Amy saw at the end of the quarter?

Chris, we averaged about 100 mph in the 1/4. didn't launch it hard just rolled out then on it for setting the new brakes and checking for issues.

Thanks Bill, We will see what we can do in Sept. then we will more than likely take a year or two of. Amy's goal of 200 is an expensive proposition for us poor folks so we will be trying to see what we can do to get the horsepower up the the required level without hocking the house. :-D
