Title: April Wilmington Almost Ready?
Post by: ronnieroadster on March 28, 2013, 07:14:05 PM
Hi All
Well there's not much time left before the ECTA opening event in Wilmington.
Is everybody ready? Our Lakester has once again undergone a few more changes with the hopes of gaining a bit more on the record. Biggest news this year will be the first attempt at running a replacement iron flathead V-8 block which is still under construction but it will be ready and running in April. So many decisions to make as to the tune up while trying to keep it safe but still make a bit of power for some speed. So as of today just 30 days left.

I still have to finish my new intake manifold, get my wheel bearings installed, wire the logger and build a gas tank if I have time. So basically everything is going as planned working till the last minute. :-D

You know there is more power in liquid N20 than gaseous... tune it for cold

Thanks, yes I know it nees to stay liquid.
I am tuned for 950 psi.  The Wizards of nitrous system is desined to keep the nitrous in a liquid state all the way to the injector. The mornings in Ohio are very cold. A full bottle at 50 deg has about 700 psi. I was able to warm the bottles with hot water in September. But I would rather just turn on the heater to get the pressure perfect.
I will be at the Wilmington inn. And Damon's for dinner.

Getting ready and the weather is finally starting to warm up a little.  I think spring may finally be here for good.  The heads are almost done for the Duc and then the top end should be back together.  High compression pistons were added but we didn't find a good set of SP cams so that will have to wait.  Will be interesting to see what these changes add up to.

Our lakester came to life on Friday the new Flathead V-8 motor sounds pretty good. Have a few more details to complete but overall everything is looking good for the opening event of the ECTA season. Last big detail will be adjusting the trailer to our new Ram truck. Yes that things got a HEMI.  :-D
Jerry go easy on the dyno

Impossibly behind my goal.  The new truck won't make it but I'll bring the Dodge with a couple of refinements and see if I can bump the record a bit.  For some reason everything is taking longer than expected on the new project but I guess that's the way the cookie flops - er - mop crumbles, I mean.

See y'all there in any case

Can said:  "...For some reason everything is taking longer than expected on the new project..."

Dan, unh, mmm, I think you've discovered a basic tenet of building a race vehicle.  It's called "That's the way these things go, Dan.  If it all went together right and well and quickly and on the first try -- you'd be making a cup of coffee or tying your shoes -- not building a race vehicle."

Jon are you saying it IS possible to drink a cup of coffie and tie your shows with out a bunch of things going wrong?? Huu. I will keep trying but I just don't see it.

I guess I shouldn't have said that.  I've pretty much quit drinking coffee this past winter -- and I wear slip-on boots mostly.  I forget about the issues.

No, want a minnit.  I still wear lace-up boots for working out in the deep snow.  And other than the cats enjoying farkling with the laces -- I almost always get the boots tied up so they are NOT tied together.  I think that's a good thing.

Racer's law: "The work expands to meet or exceed the time available."  firebird (almost) ready. Goal to be in trailer next wednesday and there early friday.
Looking forward to event and the Hans seminar. The first one I wore looked like an oxen yoke and we designed a hydroplane cockpit around it. It did what it was supposed to in 1997. Transferred the impact to shoulders instead of neck. Don't be without it.

Hey, Tim:

I'll also be making my rookie LSR appearance at Wilmington--feel free to stop by and say hello! 2007 Chevy HHR, #9940 (we must have gotten numbers at roughly the same time... :-)

Do you have speed-rated tires and metal valve stems and caps for the Vette? Just going through the checklist myself...

See you next week--

No a corvette has a torque tube the drive shaft is self contained inside another tube.

About a day away from the ZX-10R being ready.  Everytime we formulated a plan and were near completion, we decided to change and do more.  The AT&T comercial says "more is better".  The dyno numbers are great.  Now to see how that transfer to the track.  See everyone soon.

I understand this for sure...I've made so many changes over the winter, that now I am playing catch-up on the small stuff .. you know, "oh, that will only take 45 minutes to fix/change.  I'll do that later." : but, when you have 25 of those small items.

All this C5 Corvette talk is getting me excited. When I read an article in HotRod about 2 1/2 yrs. ago about landspeed racing on the Maxton Mile I was still in a wheelchair after having three strokes and being semi-comatose for three months. I made it a goal to make at least one run down the infamous mile with the kink in it. I decided I would run my SS Silverado truck because I knew I would run as fast as whatever I drove would go and I didn't want to butcher up my 21,000 mile Corvette with an eight point cage and a fire suppression system. I wouldn't take anything for the record I set at that last Maxton Meet or the two I established at the first ever Ohio Mile but going faster would be a lot of fun. I have three different people begging me to price my truck after the April Meet. One in particular I told that he would have sticker shock when I told him the amount and his response was you just price it and I will take it and having the funds would not be a problem. I was thinking about finding the lowest mile early 90's ZR1 and drag race it but after reading about what would have to be done to a C5 to pass tech for up to 150 mph  makes me think maybe I should pick up another C5 and continue landspeed racing which I am hooked on anyway. Does anyone know if the chassis and frame of a C4 ZRI is acceptable as the C5 frame is?

I have everything ready. The bike has been ready for a month. The van and the rest of my life are going back together . New job new muffler that sort of BS.

My last run in September was my personal best at 123 mph. Since then I have spend six months working on the bike. Just about non stop. I have refined and upgraded more than I care to think about. And thanks to Joe Heffernans Bikes built better shop. I have tuned the bike. In September it was all bolted together. Now it is tuned. As Warner Riley said." The harder you work at home. The better your luck at the track."

Sunday: 63/46, 0% chance of rain

Certainly could be worse...

WEATHER REPORT
Having had the pleasure of racing at the first ever event in Wilmington last April I can tell everyone what to expect for weather. First it was cold and yes it rained a couple of times. BUT once the rain ended that great racing surface was dry in very little time the design of the concrete runway for whatever reason allowed the wet surface to dry completely very fast. Racing was underway faster than I have ever seen between our two cars we still made six runs and that was with a full field of racers.
Now about the cold weather I just kept my firesuit on no big deal. Plus an added bonus was cool weather made for a bit more horsepower heck my fastest run all year was at that first ever event.
My son and I just completed the new push bar for the truck yesterday.
See you all in Wilmington we are ready.

I am packing everything tommorrow night and headed down thursday morning. I hope the weather holds out as well. The forecast does constantly change for that region. Oh well is racing.
