Anybody know anything about this bike? It was featured in a 2 page ad by Castrol Oil in the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated. That cost some big bucks. Is it for real or just a PR stunt?

It's for real.

And let me guess you only got that magazine for the liner article right?

Of course he did. Now had it been Rollie Free that posted this I could understand him buying the mag for the swimsuits.

Jon Jon Jon you know me better than that. It was miss-delivered to the monastery where I am in training to become a Jain Monk. Fell open to that page when I was sorting the mail.
Heard from a couple of people and it looks like the real deal they have backing and well respected motorcycle builders behind it. Don't know a time frame we will see if its vaporware or not. No one has ever held the ultimate motorcycle record without crashing a few times.

If ever there was a statement to keep in mind, that's the one!

I am somewhat confused. I thought I saw some images of that British build somewhere and if I remember right, it was turbine powered, wheel driven. How come there is a Triumph logo in the magazine add? Is Triumph Motorcycles a sponsor, even thought it is turbine powered? No big deal, I just got the impression they were trying to renew the Bonneville Triumph legendary history and seek the record with Triumph power. Does Triumph also build turbines?
-
That ad is in this month's Cycle World. :-o
At least if it goes beyond concept we'll have a better chance of seeing and fondling it than anything in SI!

Bob Carpenter has been doing R&D with the Rocket 3 engine :)

Ok, how does the not-concept, all British, University of Derby, Alex Macfadzean, James Toseland, powerplant unspecified vehicle connect to the concept, Castrol USA, U.S. Carpenter racing, Triumph North America vehicle?
-
LA Dean: Brits have several streamliners under construction, the turbine bike and the Angelic Bulldog with a V8 Busa powerplant. The Castrol sponsored bike (surprised they have any $$ left after John Force got his ) is powered by a turbo Rocket 3 using Motec . Bob Carpenter is getting 265 HP N/A though a driveshaft so I expect a boosted one will at least double that. The real question is who is building the chassis and body. I would have just given the $$ to Dennis Manning and been ready to race by Easter. :-D
-
Don Vesco was involved in the original chassis build a number of years ago.

Hijack:
Hi, Larry. How are you doing?
-
All of that horsepower for a cruiser bike is a bit questionable. Those things have way too much power for the chassis and the riding position as they are sold by Triumph. It is hard to hang on when over 100 mph on a cruiser bike.
-
Still learning how to walk again but making progress. Thanks for asking Slim. Larry

Larry --- heal up quick and get back to racing.

Larry has got his bike for sale........... :-o
-
Glad to hear you are doing OK Larry.
I think Team Forstall has a big enough stable to handle the sale of one record-setter :-D

I have never had a problem hanging on at over 100. Maybe the trailer I pull changes the aero... Ya gotta put the beer and apple pie somewhere...

Hmm -- just got this from Mike Akatiff:
> "Looks like Castrol has dropped out of this effort. I found it odd that neither Triumph or Castrol had any mention of the bike at there large displays at the Zurich show even though Castrol was a major sponsor of the show.

Interesting, must have been recent. It still had Castrol on the side when I saw it at the World of Speed Museum in Oregon and still had it when the Guy Martin checked it out there as well. http://www.scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk/VIDEO-Guy-Martin-look-Triumph-Rocket-streamliner/story-26876425-detail/story.html
