Title: Thought on Standing 1/2 mile Test n Tune
Post by: greenjunk on February 10, 2013, 10:24:01 PM
If there was a 8hr standing 1/2 mile LSR testing session in NC on Easter Saturday, would you go? If not, would you go if it was 2 weeks earlier? I'm working on trying to get a test session, and would prefer the end of March instead of the middle, but the opening at the venue are limited. What are your thoughts?

If the car is ready!!!!

More info please.   Who is running it?  Where in Rockinham? Airport? The Drag Strip?

Can non-LSR types show up too? (street cars)

I know a few late model GENIII Hemi's that would be interested.

Is this a sanctioned T&T?  i.e whom is running tech?

Plm, I quessing the drag strip, and doubt it's "sanctioned" just sounds like a test and tune like at you local drag strip only at 1/2 mile.

I'll be running it
Rockingham Dragway more than likely

Yes non-lsr cars will be allowed, more than likely it will be fully prepped through 1/4mile, nothing after.

It will not be sanctioned, there will be no records.  We're working on finding 1/2 mile timing system now.  But its more designed to help you get the bugs out before you hit the big time!

Tech is to be determined.  More than likely, more than lax dragstrip tech(I care about most of you) but not as much as ECTA.  This will be dependent on what the track insurance comes back with.

More trying to determine which date works the best at this point

(I care about most of you) :-D
That is funny as shit!!!

I live in Winston Salem. I am Interested. If the car is ready!

I have been to Rockingham for a T&T before. The last time was a goat rope. Supra into the wall, big time clean up (not to happy with the clean up at the startline, that is where the problem started). Oh well.

Who is greenjunk, what is your background in doing a event, do you have insurence, emergency eouipment on stand by, local permits etc. There can be a lot more to put on a event required. Just wondering. Good luck. BTW way go to your profile and fill in the city & state where you live.

Its at a Dragstrip, they have insurance, and emergency.  I have run timing, tech inspection, starting line, registration in standing mile events for 6 years.  I also have several experienced volunteers to help with the process already on board.

In order for this to be feasible we would need at least 30 entrants at $75-$100 a piece.  We're waiting on final word on insurance and i will post up everything else.

I live in Wake Forest, NC

My name is, Slim Shady, wicky wicky wicky. just kidding

Glen he is on the up and up.  :-)

It would be nice to do some low speed chute deployments.  (80, 100, 125, so for and so on). I do not like surprizes.  :|

i'll start asking around. 30 cars/bikes.  What is the max number?

Okey-dokey, Mr. David M.  I'll ask -- just where's your home location?  I will be happy to fill in the location blank on your registration profile -- and will even put in the correct information for you -- if you're willing to share it with me.  otherwise -- well, maybe I'll just move you to Herniated Rectum or some town like that.  Your move. . .

David, thanks the reason we ask is to let people know there are other people in or near the same area and can help with builds or events. Who knows maybe a visitor passing thru your area that might need some help or just want to meet you.

I have volunteered to help tech cars at this event, as well as running
our Camaro if it's ready in time. Also trying to get some of the locals
in W-S to bring their drag, road race and street machines down...

On my short list are a few Lotus, BMW and Porsche guys who run
their junk at VIR open track days now, would be happy to helmet
up and run their stuff up to 135 or so.

I know several Challenger guys. I'll start the word.  Luke we need together!

It is for sure the 17 March date?

DAve:  It's not that I didn't know where you were, nor that I hadn't seen it in a POST.  But -- by putting the location in your profile the loc. gets printed on each and every post -- so folks don't have to go back through 'em all looking for the ONE where you did put it.  See?  There is a reason for Glen and me to whine all the dang time about putting location (and any other pertinent information, for that matter) in the profile.

Thanks.  And no, we still haven't figured a way to make it mandatory to enter the location before your registration can be approved.  I'm tempted to go through and dump out all the new folks that don't enter it. . .

We can nail the date down the second we hear back from the track on insurance. That is looking to be the best date and is currently open on their schedule.

I would definitely be in with I guess my C/Production Pickup but since it would be only 1/2 mile could I run my Corvette without rollcage or extinguisher system. That's the reason I never ran it at Maxton or Ohio, it ran 13.8? in the 1/4 mile the last time but I don't remember the speed. What would be the rules as far as cages, f.e. systems in relation to speed. I have ran at Rockingham speedway before and most of us straight liners would be in trouble quickly as short as the straight aways are. I have also been to the dragstrip there and I don't think there is a half mile to run much less stop but if there is let us know about safety requirements because I would love to have a venue closer to home to go w.o.t. at. Would love it if someone could put on a one day or two day time trial at Talledega, 45 miles from my shop. I may have dreamed it but I think Joe or Keith once told me that they were looking into holding an event outside of the Talledega track maybe on some of the access or entry roads!

Okay, Garrell -- I'll bite the bullet and ask just where you're located.  I see you've listed (on your profile, in the registration page) that you're in Tapioca Heights, Florida -- but I don't find that on my map.  And while you're 45 miles from Talladega - then I should be able to find your place, I'd think -- but no.  So -- what the heck town do you live in if it isn't called Tapioca Heights?

Slim, I am from Tallapoosa, Ga. Haralson cty. 50 miles west of Atlanta. I was born and lived in this county al of my life, don't know how the Fla. address got in my profile and I had never noticed it until a few months ago. Talledega is 45 minutes from my driveway or less.

Well -- if you noticed the Florida/wrong address -- you must enjoy seeing it there or you would have changed it.  Glen and I heckle folks that join and don't fill in the "location" blank on their Profile page -- so does this mean we get to tease you, too, 'cause you're enjoying seeing the Tapioca Heights addy?  Go ahead -- go to "profile" and find location and enter the correct stuff, please.

Guilty as charged, I have been kind of preoccupied for several months and I never looked over to see my name in print. I don't remember just when I noticed it and I knew that I did not use the wrong state and city on my profile. Guess I was too close to the forest to see the trees.
Do you remember you and me communicating six or eight months ago and discussing some ideas for plaques for my guys? You had a project you needed to complete and get out then you would get back in touch with me, I asked you how Nancy was and how she was doing after her injuries. Guess we all have a little brain fade occasionally, would you/can you make the address change for me?
Thanks

Garrell

All done.  I was just yankin' your chain, of course.  So - back to the plaques.  Sure, we're doing them, and it's a slow time in the laser engraving business, so I'd be glad to pick up where we left off.  Let's do it via email, though.  Tonight my outgoing emailer is farkled, but I can receive.  Tomorrow everything oughta be okay.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Hijack has ended.

Thanks Slim for changing the address for me, it may be a few days before I can get with you. My Dad's been in the hospital five weeks as of yesterday in very serious condition, my Wife and myself go there about 6:30 am and then late getting in. I have had since last fall pneumonia for four weeks, three light strokes thankfully with no lingering effects, then as carefull as I am and my Doctor takes me straight in each week without registering or sitting in the waiting area, and I get a flu shot as soon as they are available[ 1st week in Oct.] I took the full blown flu about six weeks ago. I am not supposed to get the flu with congestive heart desease and believe me it was a rough ride and I am not over it yet. That's what I meant when I said I have been preoccupied and I don't remember what or how I wanted the plaques done.
