Any updates on the action???

Great weather, long, long lines. Fast speeds. 1 short delay for a bike oiling down the track and one short delay for a car with hung throttle going in the grass/dirt off the end..no damage all is good.

The track record for cars was broken and reset at least twice.. Last I heard the Hinson Vette went 244mph (or 241) setting a new Ohio tack record and surpassing Maxton's car track record. Lots of fast speeds.. Great crowds and very calm and patient racers.

Good news Charles, thanks for the update.

All the best for a safe, funner, and faster tomorrow for everyone.

I think they went 242+. They had trouble getting it going but about a third of the way down the turbos spooled up and it quickly became a speck on the horizon!  :-o

Hooley did 210+ with tire spin and lost a chute cable. Charles is knocking on that 2 door again!

Valerie Thompson did 198+ on a stock BMW! Down one tooth tomorrow!

There will be more thick air in the morning for everyone!

Well the track was awesome as was the weather... I had high expectations and achieved 98.42% results.
I Ran the C motor up a class in B/CGALT , existing record was 174.xxx.. My goal was 200.000 or better.. My best run of the meet was a 196.833 mph. For a new Class Record, but short of my 200 goal... I so wanted two 200 Clubs in the same year...but it was not meant to be.. It was an awesome meet..I want to thank the Out to Lunch Bunch Race Team from Rocky Mount NC,(Robbie, Tim and Travis)  at the last minute they volunteered to come crew for me..also thanks to Mike Rechien and Mike Witt (my Chicago connections..lol) for keeping me focused and encouraged..as well there help in the pits with a few changes.

This weekend proved I only need two things to get my N/A C Motor to 200 mph.
1. More Money 2. 50/75 more HP..

I hope EVERYONE has a great off season,

THANKS TO THE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS AT ECTA AND THE OHIO FACLITY,, none of us could come play if it was not for ALL OF YOU.

Here's a short report on #974.

First pass Saturday was 210 and a little change. We wanted to check the 2 new chutes and tires. Only one chute opened due to a cable routing issue. We fixed that and added a couple hundred pounds of rear weight to go after some of the wheel spin. We got back in line and were second at the starting line when racing ended at 6 P.M.  We waited a bit in the morning and got back in line about 8:45 after the windshield moisture went away. Hooley ran a 225.7xx, I believe it was, for a new record. Back in line we got another run around noon but due to a malfunctioning tachometer it fell a little shy at 220. Time to call it a day

As others noted conditions were good and some great speeds were posted. The 244 Corvette run was absolutely spectacular! Lots of new cars, at least to me.

Thanks ECTA, and another big thanks to all the traffic control volunteers.

Charlie

Charles, pull that motor over the winter bring it down to Tampa and let's dyno it to see just what HP/Torque you are making. Then you will know mathamatically what you need. I am amazed what these guys find in HP just by documenting the tune up and making incremental adjustments.

Bill, I agree about dyno time... RCR is letting me use the new chassis dyno ..it is right next door..we can push the car down to it from the Rod Crafters shop. Thanks for the kind offer..if I do a pro charger or turbos I will sure like to come down there.

Talk soon,

Congrats to everyone, I checked on the wilmington weather all week hoping conditions would be great even though I couldn't be there. Charles I have been pulling for you to go 200+ everysince we talked last April but you know it is close now. Congratulation on the Corvette setting I guess is an ECTA top speed record? Being a fourty year Corvette owner, not the same Vette but I wish, I was amazed at the speed you got out of your car.
My heart procedure is over, had a little complication but my truck was in the performance shop for modifications for next April while I was getting a port and polish job on my heart, ain't technology amazing?
Everyone have a good winter , you Geezers keep warm up near the North Pole and Jon, SSS, hope Nancy is healing well,

Garrell

Wow! What a great time!

Jeff, Bob, and Charles- thanks for the offer of tires!

Hooley, thank you for the tires-they made our weekend! It was great seeing you again, and watching that 225+ mph run!

Thanks to everyone involved with the ETCA-Joe, Donna, Keith, Tonya, Al, and all the racers were great-I can't wait to get back there next fall!

Dean you just continue to leave me without words to describe your success.  What an awesome run.  And James Height making a 210 mph pass on a turbo 650.  Don Hass blows the engine and changes to a second engine for a Sunday run, not to mention winning his class in the Throttle Nation event for the 7th year.  Mark Dotson with the fastest speed in the Throttle nation event.  Yes we set a record and retired the ZX-6rr at that event.  It still holds 3 different Worlds Fastest runs and will always have a place in my home.  We won the 1000cc N/A class in Throttle nation for the 3rd straight year ending up with 5 records set during the event.  OK, yes I hit a cone and the 3/4 marker at about 198 mph and destroyed the body on the ZX-10R.  Found a bump and it unloaded and turned in the crosswind gust.  Just call me cone killer for a while I guess.

Let me add my THANKS to the volunteers and the ECTA officials.  Great meet and PERFECT weather.

The truck (named Truck) went 117.86xxx and set the record - for about 2 hours.  The other guy running in the class (sorry - didn't get your name) ran 0.002 mph faster than I did!  I couldn't seem to get any more in spite of several changes in driving technique, etc.  He eventually squeezed off a 119+ and I felt a bit better about that!  At least it was a REAL bump in the record at that point.

Anyhow, it was a ton o' fun and couldn't have been a better weekend (except it didn't work out to chow down with Terry, Lawson and the crew).  This is the last time I expect to run Truck as I have different plan for next year, so he's back to full time DD status.

Looking forward to busy Winter and seeing y'all in the Spring.

Dan

SO GLAD you're ok Greg, as we've seen lately, crazy @$% happens to even the best riders- good job keeping it upright.

Congrats (as always) on your success with both bikes, you set so many records that it seems normal. But of course it's not, hard work and $$ and time pays off, WTFG.

The ZX6RR had a great run, it doesn't owe you a thing! 190mph, who knows how many records.

On to bigger and better things for the 1000! :)

Thanks to all the ECTA people who made this year the huge success it was. I had a blast and met so many great people. Sep. was picture perfect. Even though we didn’t  get the G/PRO record ( -.2mph) it was a blast! Congrats to all who did. See you next spring!

Charles:

You know the first 500 or so horsepower are cheap compared to that last 50 to 75 HP. Look at the driveline to free up some power. Lightweight oils, dry sump rear end, fluid hubs, scuffing brakes. If you don't switch to a dry sump a vacume pump make help free up some power. We are going to dyno my motor as a baseline and then bolt on a vacume pump to document any improvement in HP. I will let you know. Should be in a week or so.

Looking at the pictures it shows only one rear wheel driving, however the trailing rear wheel has a sprocket on it. Is there a option to connect the 2nd wheel via a jack shaft  and chain  or other means to drive it?

Captthundarr & Glenn, the liner is not mine but I may be doing some work for Gary Silvis, the owner. No plans to drive the trailing wheel at this point - just there to meet the four wheel requirement. I told him to put a lift on like the cement trucks and run 3-wheel too!  :-D
This was Gary's first run ever with the car. Of course it wouldn't start when he arrived! But other racers gave a hand and he got his rookie pass in on Saturday. He loaned his fire suit pants to the Hinson Vette boys so his pants have been 244+ already!

. . . . . No plans to drive the trailing wheel at this point - just there to meet the four wheel requirement. . . . .

hummmm . . .  I think the definition of an "automobile" in the rule book not only stipulates at least four wheels but also includes words like "The automobile must be propelled by at least two (2) wheels."

Are streamliners exempt from that part of the automobile definition?

You are right BR, when you approach the terminal velocity of your vehicle, and pushing the upper end of your engine it is more cost effective to gain the HP through drag reduction. Point in case, the '71 Dodge Daytona (of Gary & Pam) reduced drag by 96HP in a 2 hour wind tunnel session ($920 or $9.5/HP).  How much would 96HP cost from your engine builder ($$/HP)? The next maxton event they went from 181mph to 190mph. And also went from a major aero lift situation on the front that was "very difficult to drive" to a neutral balance front and rear where Gary and pam say they can now drive one hand on wheel and one on chute lever.

I agree that the wind tunnel would be a great tool to use, if one understands all the aero factors involved.

I want to get my car in the tunnel after our aero mods are done, but I'm hesitant- if I don't know exactly what I'm looking at/for, how am I really going to benefit?

Suggestions?

The majority of people that come in A2 are first time users so we understand the level of help that we need to provide to make them aware of what they are looking at, how to understand the data, and what changes are going to benefit their type of racing.  We do not develop your car for you, but we can help you get prepared with a good test plan, by phone and email to make sure you are ready when you get here.  We use a spread sheet that calculates the coefficient data into lbs and HP at a given speed so it is easily understandable since we can all relate to that information.

Keep in mind, when you say you want to get it in a tunnel after aero mods are done. What are you going to compare it to that will let you know if the mod’s made it better?  You’re better off testing some concepts of your modifications before you build them into final pieces.  If you have a finished car to bring to the wind tunnel, its hard to go back and cut on it to apply new things you learned.  But, if you come in and baseline the car as you have run it at the track, and then develop/track your changes you can eliminate build time since you won’t have to go back twice to modify the modifications. Plus, you now have a baseline as a comparison to know how the modifications will help or hurt the performance.  This is important to understand handling issues as well as drag reduction.  I am available to chat about any questions by phone or email.

Dave, Thanks for the reply!

Testing the old design against the new design would be nice, but money and time prohibit it.

What I'm really interested in, after we make the aero changes-narrower front end, hood scoop, covered front tires, etc., is getting the new design as 'slick' as we possibly can.

1st pic is how we ran this year, 2nd is what we will do to the car this winter.

Flattie, it is a shame you can't get wind tunnel time before the mods. I think you would be amazed at how much you will probibly pick up with the changes planned. I know I gave you a little grief before (just funnin) but your areo improvements should split the wind nicely.
Frank.

No worries Frank- if a guy is going to post an aberration like that, he better plan on some comments! Lol. Besides, 24+ years as 'oil field trash' has given me pretty thick skin!

I agree that the improvements would be nice to document, but I'm resigned to the fact that we will just have to do the best with what we'll have. Once the mods are done, we'll get it in the tunnel, and see how slick we can get it.

I think the aero will be as important, if not more important, in our 200 mph goal, than the HP. We know we can make HP!
