I just booked my hotel and will preregester tonight. I did not expect to race again until September. I am very fortunate things are working out so I can race in July. I am looking forward to it.
-
I'm in!
-
Zack Millholland will be twisting the throttle on Greenie.
It's a PITA that my body is taking so long to repair itself, keeping me watching, not doing :-(
Karl
BTW: BillyS, BobS, Linda, Jessie, Helenita, Karl, BillW will be there also; we were planning Ohio & Loring & WOS last night.

Made a few small changes to Amy car and are planning on being there if the mogo keeps working. This will be the last race for this year as Amy's teaching schedule and school (She's working on her second Masters Degree) will eat up racing time. Hope to get her over 140 in july. :-)

Thinking about going. Just got my new trans. Need to put it in. Lost 3/4th right off the lin in April. Maybe I'm in the record books for first breakdown on track at Willmington. Long tow home courtesy of Uhaul. Expensive weekend. Not use to that. Now I'm a little nervous. Might pospone Bonneville till next year. Would like to see everyone in July when I'm not freezing. Us F bodys need to stick together.

I'm in, changes to the bike and lower gearing. Just booked rooms myself

We will finally make it

 it will be good to see you where did you book?
-
I'm in. Just booked at the Wilmington Inn. Couldn't get my usual room so had to settle for the one next door! Also pretty sure I have resolved my data logging issue.
-
Its going to be close but it looks like the Time Bomb will make the show. Double down ohio maine weekends for us!!!!
-
Best of luck Maty guys! It'll be great to see the Time Bomb scorch the track again.
Me and the truck will be back and hopefully will make a significant improvement in speed as I finally do something about that speed limiter. When I get the Camaro back on the track the tow truck will likely be quicker than the race car!

The 974 Studebaker team is planning on being at the July Ohio Mile. Made a gear and tire change. May be just a little more, just maybe.
Hooley
-
Hooley, I just did some aero calculations on you tater! Divide your car number by 4 and take off the local state sales tax 6.5% and I get 228.64! That ought to do it!!
This calculation will work for other machines, too! 4 is the k-factor - just adjust that to suit! :-D
Maybe I should post this to a certain new aero forum?? :? Nahhhh! :x
See ya in July!
-
Woody
I used the Studes year, divided by an adjusted K factor and then subtracted the sales tax and Hooly will run a 229.86. In theory, all else being equal, proper lucky draws being worn etc, etc, etc.
Is this aero forum material too??
See ya in July!

I'm going to have to skip the July event. Going to force myself to get the car driveable this summer, and could use all the extra time I can get. Should be back in September though.
-
I wish I remembered all that Arithmetic [ Math to you kids] and It would go faster then
Hooley
-
Woody and Hooley,
Please accept my humble apologies for the mistake in figuring Hooley’s theoretical speed in the upcoming July Ohio Mile. Woody is absolutely, 100%, theoretically, rhetorically correct in his predicted speed of 228.64 mph.
It is blatantly obvious even to the most casual of observers that the misspelling of “Hooley” resulted in the 1.22 mph difference using my equation. Again, I theoretically, all else being equal, proper lucky draws being worn etc, etc, etc, apologize.
See you in July!!

I am relieved! I thought you might have been calculating his new exit speed! :-o
Hooley seems to believe that if you lift you lose!
-
Hey guys, if Hooleys exit speed in the standing mile (or for that matter Plm Krze’s, or a motorcycle, or a motorcycle with three wheels, or a motorcycle with five wheels, or a hamburger powered hamster, an alcohol powered anteater) is theoretically 228.64, if we reduced the hamsters frontal area by 1/3 (by shaving said hamster’s ears off) will Hooley’s entrance speed into the standing mile still be zero?
Now, Woody. You have to admit that this aero forum material!!!
No hamburger powered hamsters were hurt during these theoretical entrance speed calculations, but one alcohol powered anteater was lost. Little shit got drunk and fell down and hit his head.
I'm still going to see you in July!!

The only real "major" thing left is the front upper control arms (onto version 3 at this point- completely new design) and front coilover mounts. Everything else is an easy hack (patch the trunk sheetmetal, etc.). This weekend I'm going to pull the motor for better access and to finish all the welding in the engine bay. If I don't create more problems with the control arms, by the end of the month it should be on it's wheels ready to start up again.

We are registered and booked for the hotel. Now for the bikes, thats another story. Working a 21 day straight stretch here at the job. No time to prepare, much less fis the clutch issues on the ZX-6. It's all in the hands of KWS Motorsports. Of course, they have never let me down. Some locals I spoke with said be ready for hot, humid and little wind, except in the passing storms. Karl, looking forward to seeing you. We are planning the double, Ohio/Maine. Looking forward to talking. Have started some plans for next season.
-
Count me in.
Not alot new ... just suspension adjustments, a mild massaging of the cylinder head ports and the addition of a Stroud parachute (in case the mild cylinder head port massaging has unexpectedly good results).
Looking forward to the Stroud seminar as this is my first ever parachute.

Me too, planning Ohio then Maine. My endurance is so-so these days, but WTH, wifey prob needs to add "towing a trailer" to her already formidable list of skills (ironing, mopping, controlling my meds, etc)
-
I'll be there. Still not sure on Loring, but Ohio fer sure.
-
The Ohio/Maine back to back events may prove to difficult and expensive for me..
I am ordering a new Chute so I will have a spare (as my last one tore last meet).. trying to make a few adjustments to the Stude,,
I hate to miss seeing all you there (and my Stude dude Hooley),, I may just Drive the Camaro (Bumble Bee) up to
be there and for Saturday and Sunday thru lunch.
Charles
-
I will be there with the WABBIT and then on to Maine the following weekend. There will be some more of the 'Birds there too, over in the camping area.
-
Its going to be close but it looks like the Time Bomb will make the show. Double down ohio maine weekends for us!!!!
I wish you guys the best(bout time for a break). Stay safe and go fast.
As far as I'm concerned I will not be making the July ohio or the Maine event as a matter of fact as of now I am in retirement. I may come back sometime in the future but not until I can find the hidden intermittant problem that has been plauging me for like 2 years now. Everyone thinks it's because I am trying to run the car too hard but it's not I have been turning the car down(in power) everytime out and I recently over hauled most of the car trying to remove the problem. Didn't work, at the june Ohio mile the car was turned down about 500 awhp from where it has been sucsessfully run in the past and it should make 600++ more than it was at but still it failed.
So as of now I'm parkin it and probably won't touch it for quite a long time as I am digusted with the thing.
Rant over.
I hope everyone has a great time(I know I won't) be safe and beat your personal bests.

Mike my friend,
Retirement is not the right word or mindset you should be using or having right now,,,
How about let's call it "Time off for Reflection" I am sure you will be back to Land Speed Racing sooner than you think,
It may be with a new car, new power plant and possibly new goals... but you will be back...
Get a 2nd Gen Camaro and a SBC for fun,,, then one you have all that done and working well,,, TWIN TURBO that SBC in true Mike/Mike boosted style,,,
Oh yeah,,, you are going to need some wires !!!
Stay cool, see ya down the road somewhere..
Charles
-
Mike - Sorry the little Evo is being a little brat! Hopefully you'll find the key to disciplining it and get it back in the line. Taking some time off can be a really good idea, though. I call it "letting the wind blow thru (my brain). Part of the reason I'm running the truck instead of the Camaro. Hope to build a fresh 6-banger over the Winter, paint the ol' boy, and burn some gasoline next year. But I keep getting older...
Dan
-
Hey I've got a second gen Firebird small block. Twin turbos sounds interesting. Anyway got the new 700 trans in and all goes well I'll see everyone in July. April was a disaster burned up the trans on the first run. Thinking of staying at the Hampton Inn in Washington Court 16.5 miles away. Any thoughts?

I stayed at the Baymont in Jeffersonville for the last meet. It was fine but a bit further out of the way than would be optimal. If you call the Wilmington Inn and tell them you're a ECTA racer they'll take care of you. My room for the next meet is $55/night and just a couple of miles from the track. I'll wager the place you're considering is fine but a bit too far away if you can have as nice a room for the same $$ in Wilmington.
Just for grins - anyone know the airport code for the Wilmington, OH airport? Ours is ILM in Wilmington, NC. I think Delaware has WIL.
Dan
-
Found it! ILN is Wilmington, OH. WIL is Nirobi, Kenya - go figure

Me and the misses have stayed at the Baymont in Jeffersonville both events. It is next door to Werner's Smokehouse. Try the "Hog Wings" and a cold adult beverage. Yum Yum!!! Richard and Barbara run the place. Great folks!!!!

If anyone is intersted in a turbo setup to go in a 2nd gen let me know. its good from 500-1200hp. twin 70mm's bolt right on...

Would like to bring the turbo'd Sportster up, but not sure if I will have enough time to convert it or even if there are any spots left open.

Dan, Wilmington, NC is ILN. Wilmington, Oh is KILN. who wants to go to Kenya?? :-D

NOPE! Wilmington, NC is ILM - we often use it as an abbreviation for the name of the town. You'll find it's used all over town in ads, etc. The list I found showed ILN as Wilmington, OH and I never did find Wilmington, DE (but who cares besides Joe & Donna?)!

Dan is correct. ILN=typo N next to M, KILN = ICAO list not FAA. I'll shut up now. See you there.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) established 3 letter code designations for airports to standardize abbreviations. Most have an origin derived from the airports name.
Wilmington Ohio - Airborne Air Park - Clinton County Airport - ILN
Wilmington North Carolina - Wilmington International Airport - ILM
-
And some of them are not intuitive: O'Hare field, Chicago = ORD
Before the airport was turned into a big-time place it was Orchard field, ergo ORD.
Back to who's going to the Ohio July event.

Dave M. please send me info if your twin turbo fits 3rd gen sbc.

Just got our confirmation from Tonya. The Geezer2 will be there. We'll be staying with Atul and the great folks at the Wilmington Inn. Stop and see Brian and John. Hoping for great weather and a light Tail wind.

Well I am winning the build vs time battle so it looks like I will be at Ohio in 9 days with the initial shakedown run for my 1990 Morini Dart 350 prior to taking it to BUB. It is the bike built by Cagiva from 1988-90 after they bought out Morini. They wedged the Morini 3 1/2 V-Twin pushrod engine into their Cagiva Freccia 125 chassis. It is aircooled and has a kick stand and electric start (thank you) and a muffler (you're welcome). I have entered it in the M-PG-350/4 first. Then if all goes well I will add the fairings and change to MPS-PG-350/4. Just need to add safety wiring, number plates. No paint job yet. And the front fender needs some modification to be used or it will not clear the tire when it grows at speed. The only 16" V-rated tire I could find (Avon Roadrider)had a slightly taller profile than stock.
So no red Honda mosquito to seize on the track, just a 22 yr old Italian....
-
this is killing me, i will be 2 hrs north in ohio that weekend at a big family bbq, riding my bike out the friday before, it will be very hard to not at least swing by on my way home and say hi. but i got to be at work 4:30 monday morning. big member guest torney at the golf club i work at. but make no doubt about it i will be there in sept...with 2 buells and if everything goes rite the 1921 boardtracker.
every one have fun and go fast!
-
For those who complained on how cold it was the past 2 events, Wilmington made it to 100F today. 8-)
-
ransom, ill take the cold anyday. how you doing buddy, sept we rented a cabin you in...bring your better half...and i dont mean the bike!
-
I'll be there again as a volunteer. I think Joe has me in Tech.
Hopefully I'll survive a little better than the April meet. Working the front gate just did me in.
The little RED HAIRED GIRL will be with me, and we expect to have a great time.
I thought I could have the liner with half the body done this Sep meet, but that looks unlikely now. Running out of money again.
Good luck to all the racers and crews.
-
Ransom they are calling for 106 here in Carolina today. My kind of weather.

Dr. Jarl, no number plate, no paint yet? Blue tape, blue tape ,blue tape. Just check with Ali about the lettering.

Ken,
Thanks for the check with Ali recommendation ;-)
Just remember that size does not matter, it's how fast you go that matters.....Wait, sorry, now I'm off the subject...

I don't know what the storm on Friday did in the Ohio area. I know Mark Dodsen, as did many in West Virginia had a lot of trees down and some building damage along with power being out. The storm hit us in northern NC Friday night taking some trees and blowing out some windows. No rain, just straight line winds with gusts 60-70+. I'm sure travel will be fine, but just be aware you may run into some areas still being cleaned up in rural W. VA and Ohio.
Everyone I have spoken to was fine, just without power and surrounded by downed trees.
-
Columbus area damage from the storm was basically the same, trees down, power lines down. mostly hurt was the north west side.
Power was out at my house for 12 hours, so was cable and phone. Glad I have a house generator, I was charging all the neighborhoods cell phones.
Other places are still out of power, AEP says 5- 7 days... they go long so they look good when everything is back in 4 days.
See all Y'all on the 6th!
-
Hope all are OK. We got nothin' here in SE NC and really we were hoping to get some leftovers from the storm - we need rain.
See everyone in the other Wilmington in a few days (seems weird that it takes me a day and a half to drive from Wilmington to Wilmington). Miracle of miracles, Mary Ellen is coming. However, we're renting her a car and she'll be exploring town, taking in the consumer mall in Jeffersonville, and such like that. But she'll hang out in the evenings, etc. Kingsford (AKA Knucklehead) is staying at doggy day camp and won't be along for this expedition.

1990 Morini Dart 350 is now ready for the mile though it does not have the Dart bodywork on as initially I will run it naked. Then if all is well I will add the fairings.
(http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9509/dsc03055t.th.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/84/dsc03055t.jpg/)
Drive safely. See everyone Friday.

Dr J - It's like Jeff Foxworthy says -- "It may not be the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean; but it takes a long time to get to England in a rowboat."

I have my liberty card. But, I am still a class "A" liberty risk. Shit. Oh well at least I'm off the boat.

Thanks Cajun!! We will help uphold the NC contingent.
Leaving LewisVegas now. OHHHH Yea!!
captthundar, it is a joke. kitchen pass, liberty cards etc etc.

Given who is usually at the helm of that gig, I'd say a pass or card for him would be redundant, he'll be under orders :-D
Everyone be safe, have fun, and go fast.

In Wilmington now
IT'S "KIA" HOT
I don't know the procedure or if necessary, but my friend Bob Sirna is preregistered and will not make it.
I have been asked to sell if possib,le.
I dont even know if the event is sold out, but I've told him I will sell at a discount. Not much because I'll use that as beer money for the weekend. :-d
See y'all in tech

Hot it was today. Set a new record that went back to 1911, made it to 101F. And unlike those conditions out west, the dew point was near 70F. Suppose to be warmer tomorrow!
