I got up there around 1pm Saturday I hung out around tech seeing how thing happen. The wind was relentless until some time during the night. Got up around 5:30am and it was cold. The first 3-4 cars broke records i think. No wind until around 9 or 10,then it was a strong cross/head wind. stopped the race a few times. I left around 11.45 so i wouldn't have to pay for another day.
-
The ended up with 12 car, three m/c records. Very low turnout, just 82 entries. The temps were good, winds terrible. Beer stayed cold.

Saw some great pics from El MIrage at http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=706360

Dan I though the beer staying cold was always the priority??
Found out how important course walk is and I do walk it. I picked up a tek screw somewhere and probably wont be able to fix that tire. Fortunately it was just loosing air and did not go flat while on the run.

A picture is worth a thousand degrees.
Or in your case a couple of 360 degrees.
-
More than a couple -- unless you can count the unwinds -- might have come up zero.
-
Here are just a few of the shots Bob McMillian sent me. Apparently we couldn't handle the 22 MPH gusty side winds.
-
. . . and these, too.
-
Did Kennedy talk to you LOL
-
Did you hurl?
It would have been a good opportunity.
Are there "hurl" pins?
Mark that one off The Bucket List unless you missed the bucket.

183.21 was your 2nd run? Not bad. Almost as fast as that V4/VOT

A picture is worth a thousand degrees.
So do think it was the wind that helped that spin happen.
Glad you kept the tires on the ground.
I think another car spun right as i was leaving around 11:45ish. Look like the windshield came out during the spin.
-
FWIW,
I reconciled the 12 car and 3 motorcycle records today. Seven out of 12 had 0 wind conditions, the five ranged frpm 3-17 MPH, different directions. Of the 3 m/c records the wind ranged from 2-20MPH, different directions.

Well, we did get to find out the difference between a Bonneville spin and an El Mirage spin -- noise. A Bonneville spin goes kinda shush, shush, shush. An El Mirage spin has the tires making real bad shreaking noises like something bad's going to happen. We're sharing this so you can know the difference without experiencing it.
-
Thanks Stan,
Experienced the "shush, shush, shushing" before but not the "skreak, skreak, skreaking". Elmo dust is easier to clean than salt! How's the firesuit?
Tom

The fire suit may be harder to clean than the car............U sure it was the tires making the noises? just kidding. Glad it all worked out for you. My son spun my coupe and it is on one of the videos. Spin pin is kind of a cool keep sake.
-
Stan. Are you sure it was the tires that were shrieking?

If you are interested in really good picture of your car at Elmo the last two meets check out Zane McNary's site:
www.landspeedphotos.com
He has several year's of events on his website. A good eye for action. I have two of his photos of cars I have been involved with framed and on the wall in my den.
