Title: Motorcycle tire/fender clearance
Post by: charlie101 on May 19, 2012, 04:07:37 AM
I am asking on the behalf of a friend. He's got a homemade front fender, now he can't get the same 17" street tire profile and the new tires are the same width but slightly taller. He's going against a 120 mph record and I am worried it's too little play to the tire crown. Is there a rule or what's the smallest tire/fender play allowed to get thru BUB scrutiny?

There are no restrictions on minimum fender clearance.  There could be  a question on safety if the fender has no clearance.

Based on your avatar, i recon you have a similar fender. What clearence do you run? What tire growth do you calculate with?

My front fender has 1/2-inch clearance static and from the pictures appears to compress at the front but no rub marks were observed.
