Title: Pics of Blower Restraint Hardware?
Post by: 38flattie on March 28, 2012, 03:58:02 PM
My blower restraint didn't come with hardware, and I need to make some. Even if I bought a kit, the head bolt pattern would never fit the Caddy flathead.

Anyone have pics of the hardware setup, on the tie down side? How tight are these required to be?

Thanks in advance!

Flattie, go buy a Drag Racing Magazine and look for a picture of any Top Fuel or Funny Car engine.
Basicly the mounts are welded to the top edge of the header flange.
Usually they each consist of two short pieces of heavy wall tubing welded horizontally spaced just far enough appart for the restraint straps to fit between them.
The I.D. of the tubing depends on the diameter of the quick release pin that slides through the spacers and strap.
  Hope that helps................. Bob
p.s.  The straps don't need to have any tension on them, just make sure they cannot touch the headers themselves.

I don't know the SCTA stand on this. But NHRA likes to see that the straps are loose and that anyfuel lines that will move when the blower goes up will still have slack in them so as not to break off the fittings and spill fuel. It's one rule that makes sense.
