Title: Hennesey or Other Upgrades
Post by: Cajun Kid on February 19, 2012, 02:14:19 PM
I just bought a new 2012 Camaro SS/RS Special Edition, It has the 426 HP LS3 Motor with 6 Speed Manual.

Just thinking about power adder upgrades,, SuperCharger and Exhaust Systems ??

Anyone have first hand experiance on upgrading the power on 2011/2012 LS3's ?

Dag Charles, I know a speed up grade.... Amy driving it. :-D :-D :-D There are some real good supercharger packages out there. I'm sure you'll get some good goodies. Congrats. Thanks again for checking out Amy's camaro yesterday.

You were SUPPOSED to take the money from the sale of the Torino and use it for RACING!

Very cool - have fun with it.

Actually, I saw "Hennesey" and "Upgrade", and I was expecting cognac questions . . .

MM/Chris

The Torino 429 Cobra Jet is still in the garage,,, I have not put it on Ebay yet...

I just could not pass up the deal on the new Camaro...

but yes..100% of the sell price on the Tornino is for Bonneville Travel cost and upgrades to my E Motor program.

I'm with Joe on this one.  Where can you legally use "ALL" the power that Camaro has (from the factory) on the street these days anyway, what with photo radars, and other such stuff used by the man...

GEH and Joe,

You are correct...The Camaro should be fun enough with the 426HP,,, I may just do cold air induction, new computer tune and better exhaust,,, save the other money for a Power Adder for Stude later this year..

It's his let him play if he wants :-) Although I did find a supercharger system for that beast at about $7,000.00. That a lot of power adder for the stude. :-o

Could we have a couple more picture of it?  What color is it?  How about posting the brochure?  Have you bought any furniture lately?  What kind of big screen do you have?

Get the aforementioned supercharger for the Stude - then go for the 300 mph club as I think you have the 2 club covered NA.

Visit LS1Tech.com for the skinny on what to do with late model LSx engines.

Tuning software is something you might want to start playing with right now.  I like EFILive.  Pretty sure they are supporting the new Camaros, but check with them first.  You first record WHAT the engine is currently doing, then look for areas to improve.  An afternoon at a dyno with a tuning tool can make a significant difference IF you know what needs help.

You can make the car a bit faster by some relatively small tuning changes.  The basic timing and fueling is pretty close, so it's looking for "limit tables" that gets the biggest gains.

Do research BEFORE shopping with Hennessey.  I'd be careful.  There are a lot of reputable LSx hotrod shops out there, not sure that includes Hennessey.  He's gets good exposure in the magazines, but his rep on the street doesn't match.

We used to run a 2000 Camaro.  Off the showroom floor, it ran 13.85@107mph.  By just some minor inexpensive tweaks and tuning  (no engine or trans stuff, or weight reduction), we got it to 12.52@111.  And that was when they were badged at 305HP/320HP.

Or ....

Get a 125HP dry nitrous kit.  You spray it in front of the MAF sensor and the engine will automatically add fuel to compensate.  Risky, but lots of folk do it.

Meet you at the Farm for a Friday Test n Tune (when it opens). Then the trip to Zmax for Drag N Brag. Then a trip to Ohio. Then the car gets a cage. Because you don't want to be one of "those guys" that runs greater than 135 then brakes prior to the traps. etc.etc.etc.

You my friend have bought one bad ass ride.  The modern muscle cars are speed, comfort and a joy to drive!!

Plmkrze,

The Stude is my main LSR Car,,, The Vicky is being set up for "The Farm" and Zmax"  for Drag Racing.

The Camaro is for Shifts and Giggles... also the reason for the HP Upgrade question is
the ZL1 Camaro is due out in April at 580 HP (it is superchaged),,, I am just doing a little research now... so If my
Lil Brother gets the ZL1,,, I would have a plan to wax him ,,, LOL

If he gets the supercharged version your NA will be just a little short. I raced another STR8 with a Kenne Bell at VMP. I had him in the lights and to 60 foot. (he was leaving soft) Then it was all tail lights and ass.

Just start Google searching. The aftermarket has numerous supercharger kits. The question is which one? Air to air intercooler, Air to water? Centrifical or screw? Cat back, which one? Cold Air, which one? Tuner again which one? Drag radials? Line Lock? MSD Coils?  :?

I will say this. I have had a ton of fun with my new generation muscle car. I have raced at the Farm in August, been all hot and sweaty. Folded up the pop up canopy, threw it and the chairs in the trunk and drove home in the AC with the Siruis blasting thru 13 speakers. Oh what a life.  :-)

So, do you have to build another shop to hold this one? :-D

Trent,

The Small Garage (#1) Holds 3 cars no problem as well as storage and my office etc..
(the New Camaro will stay in #1 with the 39 Chevy Coupe and the 36 Ford Roadster)

The Larger #2 (Garage-Ma-Hall)  can "store"  as many as 9 cars, but is roomy enough for working on and parking 5 or 6 cars and still leave room to work and get on and off the lift.

I do plan to sell the 70 Ford 429 Cobra Jet Torino (as soon as I figure how to post pics and ad on Ebay)
