I just got off the phone with Turk,,, the ECTA just signed a 4 race deal for 2012 with Wilmington Air Park.
More details and dates to follow,,,
OK, folks we have a new home... 4 events per year starting next year..2012
GREAT JOB to Keith, Joe and all involved.
We look forward to more details at Maxton this weekend.

Dean, when I spoke to Turk around 11:13am today, he just confirmed the deal and that we got 4 events per year.
They are now packed up and heading towards Maxton,,,for our event this weekend.
I am sure they want to share more of the good news and dates etc... at the drivers meeting.
If I can get more details.. I will post them,,,

Fantastic News! See . . . for all you guys that made fun of us 'Mid-Westerners' . . . we ain't all bad :-D This is a really exciting deal for myself, the FlatCad team and others who want to be able to race on this side of the USA.
I'm looking forward to this venue -- great job by all involved!

Here's a thought, and maybe someone will give me some feedback:
Nancy and I are probably going to the October ECTA event at Maxton. Maybe - just maybe, at this point -- we could go to Maxton via Wilmington and get some photos and other information to post here on the site. So the question is:
Will we have any difficulty finding it? And another question: Will we need to get in touch with someone/anyone to get access to the area? And yet another -- Joe and Keith, should we or shouldn't we do the above-mentioned detour? You're welcome to PM or email me with your comments. The rest of you folks out there in internetland -- whaddaya think of the idea?

I just asked Mapquest, and it says that it's 513 from Wilmington to Maxton. That isn't bad -- could make the trip in about the same time as the Skandia, Michigan to Maxton trip. Hmmm. . .

SSS, there are several aerial shots of the facility available,,,
my guess is with this being so new,,, we should not jump in at this point,,, let all the INK dry on the deal, next April will come soon enough..
But just driving by the Air Park and looking around town for Hotels, eating places etc,, and a casual drive to see the location would "seem" OK,,,
Also finding a race fuel vendor,,, I found one less than an hour away,,,,

It is only 2241 from my house. I will pick you up on the way. 2241 x 2 = 4481 / 10 = 448 x $4.00 = $1792 for diesel round trip. We split the cost of fuel and we are off. What do you think?

I am excited... Now maybe some of those big power cars can put down some clean runs. I would like to see the ECTA be home of the outright mile record.

Great idea! Always wanted to run ECTA! We'll take a wheel off the roadster and run it as an Unlimited Sidecar! See if we can get Bakker to ride in it! Glory be! All-new open records! Just as good as the SCTA's move to add .2 miles on at Muroc! When do we leave?

Great News! With 4 events versus the 3 talked about earlier I may have to consider relocating my RV up there from Lumberton though I would have to winterize it up there. Debating unloading it and getting an extended van customized from Sportmobile instead to make the trips with. Still around 400 miles for me which adds up at 8 max mpg. Then there is 900 to Loring and 2,200 to the flats to consider.... Guess life isn't too bad if thes are my big problems though! :cheers:

This is Great news. I have been posting this on every website I know. And others should do the same. Car, bike, HotRod, scooter, whatever you think will attract new LSR racers and those who have never tried LSR racing. The Wilmington runways are FLAT, Smoooooooth and long. It just doesn't get any beyt than this. wooHoo!

I remember posting that Joe and Keith were very resourceful and they would get a deal done. I am sure this is a one year deal for evaluation by both sides. It is up to us to make this work.

wilmington has an exit on interstate 71.(5 miles on a highway).
the air park is very close.
4 or 5 hotels are also.

Nice work !!! Much closer for us, and I think I can convince a lot more people from Chicago to make the 6 hour drive. This is huge, it means a single day travel each way rather than two.
We will see you at Maxton in October for the final run.

I'm about 30 minutes south of Wilmington. There are plenty of hotels and decent restaurants in the area.
I can't believe this is actually coming together. I guess this means I have about six months to finish my project. :-)
Any information on how to go about volunteering to help out at the event? Being so close I can't see a reason not to get involved with helping to make this as successful as possible.

Yea camping at the track will be nice for those of us that show up late on friday night. I'm assuming that the port authority has a good amount of security there also? So what it the final say on the length of the track? Google maps shows around 9000ft. of concrete but looks like there may be another 2000 ft or so of asphalt runoff at the ends. I really want to know the layout and where pits will be and tech area and spectator seating and starting line and staging lanes and schedule and radio communications that may be avaliable and is there an existing PA system and do we need to get busy building Joe a fort at the finish line and do we have a fuel supplier lined up?...........

Signing a contract is the easy part of the deal!!! We have a lot of pre-race items to work out. We will post all of the details as they get finalized. Camping will be allowed. The Ohio Mile has been born, 10 am, September 21, 2011. I can't wipe the smile off my face.

Best News for me in a while 1 Hour south of the house on I 71. This is even closer for me than El Mirage was when I lived in California. Now we need a press release to let EVERYBODY know! There are quote a few car events in this area we could very well see a bunch of Newbies wanting to give it a try and like it!
Oh, and for the ladies (and gentlemen) the Outlet Shopping Mall is 10 Minutes up the road.

I'd be more tempted to keep it quiet so the bugs can be worked out at the first meet with as few newbies as possible. There will be enough experienced competitors to fill the field. It will be much easier to handle the masses after one meet is in the books and everyone has a pretty good idea of where things are and how the events will run. Just a suggestion............ :-o :-o :-o

Awesome Joe. Thanks.. I am sure there will plenty of new info to be heard this weekend but I won't be there. Kix and I and probably Daryl and some other Nashville folks will be at the October meet though. I am sure the first event will need all the help it can get for setup and stuff like that so count us in.

Assuming Keith and Joe want me to continue as volunteer coordinator I'll plan to recruit volunteers as in the past. We have a couple of folks who are off-line but for the most part I post a thread here and on <Bangshift.com> and gather the results which are turned into a list and then a schedule. I've found it's not worth it to post too far ahead as people's plans change and what seemed like a sure thing a couple of months ago no longer works on race day. So watch here 2-3 weeks ahead of time for a thread.
I think we're all pretty excited about this and I look forward to seeing the new place - and RACING there!

If you draw a circle around Wilmington that has a radius of one day's driving, that circle contains 60% of the US population. (Page 10 of the Port Authority pdf I posted earlier.) That same circle around Maxton is 50% Atlantic ocean! This will be a GOOD thing! :cheers:
I have an old salt racer [SW1975] that may have to come out of retirement. Only problem is it will look a lot better than me! :-(

What an undertaking to organize a whole new event in a new, strange location. And, I surmise, it is not near their home bases. 60% of the population within a day's drive! Maybe should start planning at least 2 courses -- who knows, might be a way. Good luck on their demonstrated success in continuing to hold their organization together.

Great News! I was gonna retire, sold my trailer! Looks like I'll have to work on the little CB160 Turbo and get it ready for next year. Being so close I can't resist the chance to run.
