Thanks Mike
I hope everything goes well with the meeting and we soon have a new place to race.
Good luck guys!!!
-
I hope this comes to fruition. Joe and Keith are putting a lot of effort into this. By simple coincidence, I am located 630 miles from Maxton, 630 miles from Loring and 630 miles from Wilmington. I guess Slim would be happy if it happens. This looks like about the same trip for him as I have. I did some research and I think this is the new runway that is not being used. It was constructed in the mid 1990-s. It should be in fabulous condition.
-
Joe,
630 miles x 3? Now that's kinda freaky. For me in western Maryland it's 430mi to both Maxton and Wilmington. Way farther to Loring though. I'm happy to know that the Wilmington rep enjoyed her visit to Maxton in May and supports the move.
Come on Wilmington! We want you! We want to spend our money at your hotels, stores, restaurants, and gas stations.
Good luck ECTA crew.

[21.9 miles for me! :-(]

Mapquest says about 660 miles from Skandia, Michigan to Wilmington Ohio. Let's see -- that's a one-day ride with hardly more than a few fuel and potty stops. Guurrr-reaaat!
-
Oh, I'm more excited than anyone. 550 miles vs. 124 miles....it's in my backyard!!
-
My house to Maxton is 1082 miles per Mapquest. My house to Wilmington would be 1089 but Wilimington is kinda/sorta on the way home from visiting my father. I make that trip a couple of times per year...
-
My move to Colorado had only one bad result. I am now three days drive to Maxton. :x However Wilmington is a day closer. :-D I hope this works out for the ECTA and for Wilmington.
-
2.5 hours driving time to Maxton & 8.5 hours to Wilmington. Hey, if they say yes I will be a happy racer. I do love Maxton and the character of the strip. Nothing like the 3/4 mile bump. May take some getting use to with a smooth surface. Say yes Wilmington. We will be there in force.
-
3 hrs to Maxton, 11 hrs. to Wilmington. works for me. Amy and me love to travel to new places. this should be a hoot. Motels just a couple of miles from the airport, got to love it. Hope it works out.
-
We will be there. 400 miles more but thats not a big thing when you are retired. It will happen. Must have positive attitude.
-
same miles but no RT 95 YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Less than 500 miles for us.
-
On pins and needles here in Michigan! Just waiting to pull the trigger! Right in Jeg's and Summit's back yard!!! Post any info as it comes out -!
Thanks,

60 miles from my place in Columbus OH. Could Sleep in my own bed on Saturday Night!
-
100.3 miles from my place to Maxton, I'm thinking 2 days to Wilmington (I haven't pulled up the map yet). And I LIVE in Wilmington - but it looks like this will be in the wrong Wilmington! Oh well - still worth the tow.
Dan

Dan, we are in Swansboro, NC, it says about 11 hours and 650 ish miles. Mayhaps we caravan on the way up to Ohio?

We are looking forward to see next year's schedule . . . Go ECTA GO!!
-
What I had in mind when I mentioned going through Wilmington was the general layout of the twon, the motels and stuff, and maybe some ground-level shots of the course area. We did the same when Lovelock, NV, was being touted for racing out west. No politicking -- just gathering information for the racers. No attempts to show the locals anything -- although we did go to a Lion's Club lunch to chat at them at Lovelock. Not nearly a fine place, though -- think of Wendover but hotter and drier and not very interested in having racers there. The Linos did want us, though -- they'd run concessions and raise funds for their projects.

Excellent.

It's 10 1/2 hours from Wilmington to Wilmington, according to Google Maps. While it would be fun I'm not sure you'll want to caravan with me. I stop a LOT for potty breaks, especially in the morning. One of the penalties for growing old. But if you can stand that, I say "Let's Roll!!!!" I plan to take a day and a half 'cause I don't have to hurry. I'm guessing we can figure out a spot to connect. Maybe Fancy Gap, VA at Vic and Terri's place (notice how I invite myself right in?).

I did a little digging on campgrounds and found a nice one right across from a lake just a little south I believe. Not quite as desirable as the Carolinas for a winter escape though. From Mapquest it looks like motels and food are a bit more plentiful than Laurenburg and maybe even Lumberton.
-
Only one decent Hotel near the air park,,, but several more towards Cinnci ... lots of choices within a 30 minute drive of the track.
The Holiday Inn Express is fairly new and close to track.... once the schedule is posted,,, That is where I will try to make reservations.

There are LOTS of hotels and places to stay within a 30-60 min drive so not bad at all. Not to mention you've got the Air Force Museum and a bunch of other stuff near by for those doing the vacation thing. You also have Brock's performance and a couple drag strips for testing if you want to come a day or so early to iron out a few things... :-D
-
In coming weeks, we will post all of the hotel details on the ECTA website. Lot's of pre-race tasks to do.
-
Joe --- you did good ---
-
Great work Kieth and Joe-looks like I'll have to get the Honda out of mothballs and give it a go next year.Quick question-what happens to the existing Maxton records when the move to W is made?

Dan, I know the feeling, We will do much the same in taking a day and a half to get there, I don't travel as well as I used to. and the potty breaks for me and Amy increasingly more frequent. After a couple of years of make the 13 hour trip to Buffalo,NY to see Amy's family it now takes us 2 days. See ya Saturday at the track.

Congratulations to Keith, Tonya, Joe & Donna !!!
We have a new home.
