Title: September Event
Post by: 55chevr on September 15, 2011, 02:41:14 PM
Heading up to Limestone. Left at 0530 from Long Island. No traffic to speak of. We are just north of Bangor on I-95. This trip it is my nephew Joe with his turbo 750 Buell. He also brought along my brother Tom-s XB9 to test.  Bike Tech looks a little thin but I have some talented people helping out so it should go well.  Supposed to get cold overnight - mid 30-s.

Joe, those overnight 30-degree temps are great.  They keep the mosquitoes under control.

Slim, I was thinking that we will experience UP weather this weekend ... Charles, we will miss you. It is too long a haul unless the machine is perfect and ready.

It's not looking too good for us right now...first, serious fuel injection issues, then I cracked my $2500 carbon fiber rear rim, and the "good" oem front rim turns out to be bent. Other than that, things are looking great!

We're going to sleep on it and decide in the morning...

See you all tomorrow.

there is not a big pre registration so this will be a good opportunity to get a lot of runs in dense cold air ... and there are 2 bikes there when we left at 6

Do I see the rain has been falling?  That's not what we want to hear.  Start doing your "Don't Rain" dance, Joe.  Best wishes to all, and to all -- maybe some gentle warm winds. . . :-)

Joe, if you need help with bike tech please dont be afraid to ask me tomorrow. I will be there early to hopefully get though tech without issues and after that if you need me, by all means just say so! You have been a big help to me through out this process and it is the least I could do.

Still sounds like enough to make it a worthwhile event...

We got most of the work done...now if the darn paint would only dry!  :-D

Could always be worse, the lighter noises are better than the deep knocking one$.  Still a bummer though not being able to use all that track and time available.

All the best for a fix of some sort before the end of the meet.

No pics for me on #25.

Thanks for the pics Joe, always good to see what I missed when I can't make a meet.

Anybody have any more info on the A/GL?

Marcia, still working on lining up the other life stuff [including working up the wood pile] so I can get down to Oct Maxton for a final speed fix and see everybody again before snow.

Great day ... no wind ... high in the 70-s ... they were hot lapping after 3 today ... Shane Burton and Rachel Johnson made it all the way from Virginia this morning. They tested the new body work on the ZX14. Rachel was asked to  be the test pilot for 2 bikes that werent as fast as their owners thought they should be and she demonstrated to the first one that was running consistanly at 180 how to go 191 mph. Quite a rider. Jodie Perewitz kept shaking out the new engine 10 mph at a time and went 192 ... The ladies are starting to take over the sport.

We ran the Ron's Hobby Shop Special supercharged flathead Ford powered lakester on Saturday into a 15 MPH headwind the motor shut down before the finish line coasting across the line running 152.152 MPH setting a new LSR record in the process. We still have more to learn about this stuff the motor is coming out of the car I need to deal with more issues. We hope to have things back together for the last ECTA event in October.
We would like to thank all of the volunteers as well as Tim Kelly and family for all their work.
Heres a video of my run on Saturday hope you enjoy it.

The Photo was taken by Tom Shay, the LTA press director and Computer guru.  He is a retired Novell guy and while he would not admit it, he is as close to a pro photographer as you can get.  The shot was pulled from our website homepage and is indeed pro quality in the format I have (4000x3000).  Tom has a site that racers can get pics from.  I will get his info up on the LTA site when it is ready.  I will also post a pic he took of my daughter off hand at the summer event to show his skills.

Not much mention was made about Eric Paquette's team. They brought 4 bikes and made about 30 runs. Turned in the top speed of the meet with an air cooled Suzuki over 250 mph ... and they made it look easy. He knows how to build a race bike. Great bunch of racers.

Uhn, mmm, I think the racing would be great at Sawyer International Airport, dodging American and Delta and the private aircraft that fly in and out of there.  In fact -- I tell you what, tomorrow morning, when Nancy and I fly out of Sawyer (bound for SLC and eventually Wendover) -- I'll see if I can smuggle a working GPS onto the aircraft to see if I can learn just how fast it goes on the 12,300' runway.  How's that for a quick survey?

Tom --- I know I busted your baxxs after the 249 pass ... it was ugly and I was shocked when the speed was called out ... I told Eric that was one very fast very ugly pass ... You recovered very well and you have the evidence. You were correct, you did not wheelie went you shifted second.

Joe  it was a baddddddd pass but im still learing alot on these turbo bikes! if the bike had a boost controller, which it did and it failed to work on the 249 run!  27psi in 1st gear makes for a hand full to drive

249 isnt a baaaad a pass ... You were never out of shape and you adapted to the power that the red bike must make. I have never been over 153 and I have nothing but respect for anyone that can go 250 and make it look easy.

Thomas,
As fast as you were on the bike, my daughter wishes to thank you for your speediness in getting her dog collected and put in the trailer.  (Apparently the dog means more to her than her brother).  She also asked me to apologize for the manner in which she "asked" you to "please" do so.  That's what she really meant.....I think.
