Title: XF/BGALT 1968 Mustang
Post by: saltracer1 on September 11, 2011, 03:26:42 PM
My question is would my 1968 Mustang compete in the Modified Category with a blown flathead since there are no flathead classes in the Classic Category? I'm thinking it could run XF/BGC, XF/BGALT and XF/BFALT. Not the most aero package I know. Phil

You are right. It would be the same as my GMC/Vega running in XO/BGalt. Which, by the way is for sale real cheep. And could fit a Flathead. Has run with GMC 6 cylinder and is current El Mirage record holder in class. Also has run with 460 Ford, 455 Pontiac, 392 Chrysler and 352 Packard power. best top speed of 208. With log book. Needs to be brought current. Any offer will be considered. Has new rear Dunlop 18 inch Dunlop tires. Lexan windshield. Full frame. Tube axle. Narrowed nine inch rear. Must go.

Is your mustang in a black and red body with a Design two- spolier?

No, my Mustang was under 20 feet of water during Katrina. My brother bought the car used when he came back from Viet Nam, I drove it to college, my sons both drove it to college and I gave it back to my brother a couple of years before Katrina. He was working on it when Katrina hit NO. The car will never see the streets again, but it might make a decent race car.

Wrong car, my mistake there was a mustang being towed around El Mirage today, I thought it was yours.

Sorry to hear that.  Were you far enough inland that it wasn't primarily sea water?  Those 'stangs have a lot of hidey-holes.

I haven't seen the car for years and I'm not sure my brother can get it back. He gave it to the guy that was storing it for him. Not even sure my brother is interested in ressurecting the car.

Buy the Vega -- it's got history, too!

You need this car. At this point, any halfway reasonable offer welcomed. Absurd offers accepted.

Please describe absurd, at least by PM if nothing else.

Absurd is often hard to pass up....

My bother informs me the old Mustang is no longer with us. So I was wondering what other cars fit the gas coupe class. Does a Mazda RX-7 qualify? I figure a 1995-2000 Mustang would be pretty easy swap. Phil

PM Rich Fox- you can't build a car nearly as cheap as you can buy a proven, record setting car like his.

Most RX7s are sports cars and would run in modified sports. I guess the newer 4 door cars might make gas coup.

Buy Rich Fox's car, and you'll probably be in a decently sorted out runner in no time at all.

I'd buy it myself, but it's just too darned big . . .

Some people just don't like Vegas. Or some people don't want a real Altered coup. They want more of a Gas coup that runs in Altered. There has been a guy talking about buying it and we also thought about loaning it out to a good home. Sold the Packard engine. Now I need to move the Lark.

We're in that "They want more of a Gas Coupe that runs as a Altered" category. Also thinking the RX-7 would be a little small with a rollcage and all. I also like building the car myself, that is more than half the fun. Phil

Yeah. I left that out. For lots of people, it's the journey. Not the destination. But I think your in trouble with the RX7. 240Z 2+2 works.
